Female weekend hobbies

Frequently men having "hobbies" that take them away from their family/house at the weekends is frowned upon.
But surely what we should be doing is encouraging women to also maintain a sense of self and own interests away from the family? IMO it's good for the family and for the individual.

So wise MNetters - hit me up with your weekend hobbies where you make your husbands/partners/SO weekend widowers.

Single with shit ex so no one to widow and not enough time to do them BUT when I do have it:

Kazziek · 13/05/2021 16:18

Football
Weightlifting
Bike racing

CMOTDibbler · 13/05/2021 16:19

Swim, run, bike, walk, sew. However as we both work FT we ensure that our hobbies don't impinge on the 2 days we actually can be together as a family - I get up early and swim at the lake, dh will get up at 5 in the summer to have a long ride on his bike rather than joining the club ride at 9 and not getting back until 3

eachtigertires · 13/05/2021 16:19

Horses
Paddle boarding
Badminton
Hiking
Camping
Swimming

SharonasCorona · 13/05/2021 16:20

I don't really have any part from reading, TV, shopping and travel.

We didn't really do after school/weekend activities as kids (just playing outside/inside), so don't think we got int the habit of being at an activity every week.

BlitheringBlathers · 13/05/2021 16:21

Only if it's a Mint Club

Absolutely! I'm with you 🤣

JorisBonson · 13/05/2021 16:21

Cor I feel like a right under achiever.

skippy67 · 13/05/2021 16:21

Netball. Now The Rules allow, I'll be training twice a week, and also playing once a week. Usually socialise with some of the club at least once a week too.

BakedTattie · 13/05/2021 16:23

Spa days. I’m going this weekend to the spa for a good few hours and then dinner, drinks

Jjjjjj1981 · 13/05/2021 16:24

@PositiveLife

Well I'm a single parent and this probably outs me but here goes:

Caving
Rock climbing
Scuba diving
Wild swimming
Archery
Pole
Hoop
Silks
Hiking
Camping
Kayaking

@PositiveLife I think I’m a bit in love with you!! Myself: Kayaking, paddle boarding, climbing, gym, swimming, running. I’m a single parent too so I really try and make the most of that one full day a week I get completely to myself. Trying yoga ON a paddle board in a few weeks time!
PlugUgly1980 · 13/05/2021 16:24

Running...can't beat a 2-2.5 hour long run on a weekend!

bluebluezoo · 13/05/2021 16:26

Thing is, when my kids were young I was so exhausted and touched out I really didn’t want to be going off swimming or running or whatever.

Fine for dh to do his hobbies, but what I really wanted for my couple of hours a week was to sit in a clean and tidy house, with nothing to do, and some nice food and the latest episode of whatever. With no one bothering me.

Never going to happen.

Timper · 13/05/2021 16:26

Golfing and cycling.

Confrontayshunme · 13/05/2021 16:27

Trolling charity shops and upcycling furniture/DIY jobs. Last weekend I spent four hours making a herringbone pattern cabinet door with lolly sticks. It looks awesome and I couldn't hear anyone asking me for anything over the sound of my orbital sander.

I love spa days! We managed a day at a Champneys the week before lockdown in November. Amazing that even one day of pampering felt like a mini-holiday.

I know they're a cliche on MN, but I love them.

MajorMujer · 13/05/2021 16:27

Swimming and hiking.

lastqueenofscotland · 13/05/2021 16:28

Running
I have horses. If you want to never see your SO I suggest horses.

Newgirls · 13/05/2021 16:31

Visiting art galleries. Going to theatre and cinema (yes to next week!!). Shops. Walking.

Strugglingtodomybest · 13/05/2021 16:32

I used to play hockey, an away match would take all day, and a home match could also be dragged out all day if we went to the pub after!

Now I go for long walks with friends, stopping off for lunch somewhere.

Surfingsister · 13/05/2021 16:33

Surfing!

meetthewildes · 13/05/2021 16:35

I've been enjoying a slippery descent back into horses for the past two years! Started with one lesson/week and now it's a lesson on Sunday and Cavalry Club on Thursday evening and a long Friday evening hack...

Anyway, now I need a horse to take to ADULT PONY CAMP in July, so here I am trawling HorseQuest and wondering if I can find 10k down the back of the sofa and if my children REALLY need two parents...

CuriousSeal · 13/05/2021 16:35

I'm on mat leave with my first, but I go running with a friend once a week. I used to do half marathons but these days I do 10km max.

Pre-baby I rowed and cycled too, and I hope one day soon that I'll be able to take these up again in some capacity.

BlueCherryBlossom · 13/05/2021 16:36

Another vote for horses. Marathon training is pretty time consuming too.

2bazookas · 13/05/2021 16:37

Weekends away related to yoga, gardening, numerous crafts, cooking, bookfairs. Leaving him at home to look after children/pets.

I've done that all my married life.
Fullyhuman · 13/05/2021 16:38

Allotment. It’s gardening, but it’s away from the binlids
