Female weekend hobbies

sillysmiles · 13/05/2021 16:04

Frequently men having "hobbies" that take them away from their family/house at the weekends is frowned upon.
But surely what we should be doing is encouraging women to also maintain a sense of self and own interests away from the family? IMO it's good for the family and for the individual.

So wise MNetters - hit me up with your weekend hobbies where you make your husbands/partners/SO weekend widowers.

Aerial silks.
I look like a sack of potatoes on a string but I love it

MrsGulDukat · 13/05/2021 17:21

Gaming, writing fanfiction and maybe hitting the exercise bike.

Summerfun54321 · 13/05/2021 17:22

Mountain biking, tennis and fell running.

pondfrog · 13/05/2021 17:22

EvenRosesHaveThorns · 13/05/2021 17:24

Allotment! Partner not the least bit interested (doesn't even now the lawn, I think he's broken) but I love it

MiaChia · 13/05/2021 17:24

This will be terribly outing - playing naked lacrosse 🥍🤣

RoseEmelie · 13/05/2021 17:27

@countrygirl99 Not sure if such a group exists virtually but my DH is definitely part of this group in real life (widowers of horse lovers). In one of our groups of friends most women and DDs ride, which usually takes up a good part of the weekend and holidays. Men keep moaning about how much time it takes and the cost but at least they’re doing their own stuffs together and since he’s found these like minded friends DH stopped hassling me, asking me to come back early etc

Shamoo · 13/05/2021 17:27

Football - playing and watching

Allthereindeersaregirls · 13/05/2021 17:28

Unfortunately all the hobbies I like are hobbies that DH and I did together pre kids and most of the appeal was DH and I doing them together, I feel that if I were to go do them now, it would be for the sake of it and I don't really enjoy it. A waste of money and family time.

ILikePizzaAndWine · 13/05/2021 17:28

Exercise wise

  • Run
  • Ride
  • Gym
  • Walk and talk

Chill

  • reading (my favourite actually. Chair, tea pot, addictive book)
  • painting
  • Netflix
  • napping
Lostinthewilderness · 13/05/2021 17:29

I totally forgot to mention writing Fanfiction, which fandom(s) do you write for? Mine is Sherlock.
Devlesko · 13/05/2021 17:29

ancestral healing, geneology, activism, campaigning, walking, camping, travelling, visiting family in other areas.

Brissiegirl · 13/05/2021 17:31

Cycling main hobby. Walking or gardening secondary interests. Also drive to some quiet beach area, read for an hour or two and take time for myself.

missymousey · 13/05/2021 17:31

Rowing
Belly dancing
Archaeology
Learning guitar
Protesting

Now, if I ever prioritised any of these over family time and tidying up, I would actually be an interesting person again :-/

CaptainThe95thRifles · 13/05/2021 17:31

I have horses and I do archery. Often, I combine the two by shooting from horseback at speed, rather than shooting the horses themselves.

Wonderfully time consuming, satisfying, and actually pretty outing.

Member869894 · 13/05/2021 17:33

Miasicarisatia · 13/05/2021 17:37

Yes, ‘widowers of horse lovers’ definitely exists and I know several paid-up members.

@Duplobuplo

Lying in bed eating biscuits?
If you are serious about this hobby you need the right sort of equipment.

I suggest comfy pyjamas , preferably very loose, and at least three pillows.

You also need a phone, a charger, and a laptop .

No doubt there will be sneerers, who say ”oh look, another WWIP* pretending they are Olympic contenders “ but you have to rise above the snide remarks.
