Female weekend hobbies

Frequently men having "hobbies" that take them away from their family/house at the weekends is frowned upon.
But surely what we should be doing is encouraging women to also maintain a sense of self and own interests away from the family? IMO it's good for the family and for the individual.

So wise MNetters - hit me up with your weekend hobbies where you make your husbands/partners/SO weekend widowers.

Horses but forget just weekends….they take over your entire life! 😁

IReallyNeedMoreGin · 13/05/2021 17:45

I just book a night away and take wine and bubble bath! Will often pick up a takeaway too. Doesn't need to be a hobby involved! I do this twice a year. Grin

wigglerose · 13/05/2021 17:45

When my LG is old enough i will go back to afternoons with friends playing boardgames and TTRPGS and running.

GnomeDePlume · 13/05/2021 17:47

Allotmenting - DH does this as well but we have very different interests. He likes weeding, mowing etc (ie tidying), I like sowing, planting and harvesting
Brewing - I have a shed which I lock myself into
Preserving and jam making

DCs are grown ups so dont need looking after though they do enjoy some of the results of the above.

I go sea swimming and running. Sometimes a nice long walk. I also go away for weekend breaks (city breaks in the UK and Europe) a few times a year, to go to museums or certain restaurants. I do something usually every weekend, sometimes dh and dc come along (a beach trip but I'll go off for a solo swim). Dh has his little things as well, visits to friends (in normal times), he tinkers on a vintage truck he has or goes for a motorbike ride.

Football season ticket.

Zealois · 13/05/2021 17:52

Before Covid, I was a member of an all female hiking group. I loved it and will hopefully start back soon.

That's my only outside hobby I guess. At home I read a lot and play video games.

Chocolateteabag · 13/05/2021 17:52

Another runner - not training for anything but I do try to go out early (mainly to get it over with Grin )

Also clay shooting - which I took up partly to have a reason to be out of the house. This plus marrying a DH who can see the need for a fair share of the load/free time!

Pyewackect · 13/05/2021 17:52

I work for the NHS - what's a weekend ?.

evtheria · 13/05/2021 17:53

I don’t currently do any (tight budget, plus scheduling issues and v limited family time) but if I could, I’d do pottery workshops.

HeadNorth · 13/05/2021 17:54

I have far too many ponies and they are a massive time and money vacuum. I also try to run 3 times a week and do weights/yoga twice a week. I'm in a book club and love to read. Also love musical theatre/all sorts of theatre. And I work full time.

DH and I climb munros together - that is our shared hobby and DH games when I'm AWOL with ponies.

CoelacanthSharpener · 13/05/2021 17:57

I've just spent a week away on my own doing creative writing. :-)

Egghead81 · 13/05/2021 17:57

I think many women’s hobby is complaining about their DH’s hobby!

bonbonours · 13/05/2021 17:58

Not weekends generally but I sing in two community choirs. That plus going for coffee with friends are my "me time" away from dh and kids. Choir is usually two nights a week and occasional weekend when we do a concert (though usually the family are made to come and watch).

😂

still better than "hitching" the house and spending their entire weekends "catching up on housework". What a life.

RandomMess · 13/05/2021 18:02

Booking a Travelodge room and binge watching stuff or reading or just chilling.

Ohdeariedear · 13/05/2021 18:02

Paddle boarding, hillwalking, cycling.

Clymene · 13/05/2021 18:03

Glad to see the misogynists are out in force here. 🙄

HavelockVetinari · 13/05/2021 18:03

Running, cycling, swimming - triathlon.

DH goes to his hometown for long weekends without me and DS a couple of times a year, and usually for a scuba diving weekend and a biking weekend too. I do a few triathlons a year (not last year sadly due to lockdown) and next weekend I'm off to the Lakes for a weekend of gorge scrambling and cycling without DH and DS.

We've got it pretty fairly split IMO.

CosmicComfort · 13/05/2021 18:03

I used to leave DH with the dses and go running for several hours most sundays.

Buggered up my knees after a few years so new hobby is crochet.

Clymene · 13/05/2021 18:04

I wonder how many women who have very time consuming hobbies have autistic toddlers. Not many I'd guess.

antipodeansun · 13/05/2021 18:04

Nothing right now except s bit of running but in the past:
Running
Yoga
Swimming in a group
Learning a language - attended evening classes

FTM91 · 13/05/2021 18:04

CrossFit. Gardening. Going to Homesense to 'have a look' and managing to spend a hundred quid.

Rowofducks · 13/05/2021 18:05

I’m a single parent who’s ex doesn’t see the kids but on my drive too and from work I listen to audiobooks and get up early to have a cuppa in peace at the weekends.
