Female weekend hobbies

Frequently men having "hobbies" that take them away from their family/house at the weekends is frowned upon.
But surely what we should be doing is encouraging women to also maintain a sense of self and own interests away from the family? IMO it's good for the family and for the individual.

So wise MNetters - hit me up with your weekend hobbies where you make your husbands/partners/SO weekend widowers.

Buying (and selling) antique and vintage jewellery, Reading, walking, visiting historic/interesting places, fossil hunting, jamming on guitar with my husband, going to exhibitions, but, equally happy watching a film !!. My husband has his own stuff, so he’d never be a widower, but we share hobbies too, and spend time together which is cool......

Jumpingintosummer · 14/05/2021 21:21

Gym every Saturday morning (and weekdays).

Shopping/lunch/drinks/coffee/dinner/dancing with friends.... can’t wait to get back to this!

Costal walk (only about twice a year)

BrassicaBabe · 14/05/2021 21:24

Project cooking. That's a new one on me. Going to look that one up.

Throwing one into the mix...Fencing. Not a hobby I do anymore as I'm too far from my closest club. But def something folks should include in their consideration

DobbleBobble · 14/05/2021 21:34

I didnt read any of the thread but cycling and golf are hobbies that take up large portions of the weekend.

Puddycatfan · 14/05/2021 21:56

Horses. So no money, but that doesn't matter because I don't have time to spend it! But I do have that glorious horsey smell lingering about, which more than makes up for anything.

MrsExpo · 14/05/2021 22:00

Get a horse. You’ll never be at home again .....

Fruitinator · 14/05/2021 22:02

Tennis.

I accidentally got into it, my club is very much a local community club, so friendly and encouraging for all levels, abilities and backgrounds.

stealingbeauty · 14/05/2021 22:07

My regular hobbies are yoga classes, an evening workshop that I do, and volunteering for a charity.

Occasional hobbies and interests are wild swimming, going for spa days and going to National Trust properties with family or friends.

Mummadeze · 14/05/2021 22:25

I play as much tennis as I can and sometimes go running. When my daughter is older I plan to join a choir and an amateur dramatics society!

Frankiegoes · 14/05/2021 22:38

@Seafog love the sound of that- can you recommend any good beaches?

Pennethorne · 14/05/2021 22:41

Powerlifting, mountain-biking, hiking and rock-climbing. Gaming. Was a member of an acapella choir before lockdown.

I'm the one with the hobbies. Bloke just sits there.

mamabear715 · 14/05/2021 22:53

Am widowed, have a ds & dd with ASD and don't drive!
What's a hobby? ;-)

IJustLikeBiscuitsOK · 14/05/2021 23:01

Musical theatre, I can't sing, I can't dance, but I have a whale of a time with likeminded friends there.
PS. I opt out of most of the shows. For the safety of the public. However if there's ever a Narrator position, I am READY. It will be my moment to shine haha

StephieSlade · 15/05/2021 00:08

Horse riding and swimming (now that the baths are open again) 😊.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 15/05/2021 00:36

Swimming, rowing, dog walking, paddleboarding, lino printing, sleeping.

subbysammiexoxo · 15/05/2021 00:40

I visit places on my own or currently go to outdoor attractions on my own, today I had dinner at regents park , last sunday I visited brighton, I have moved to london after a breakup on my own a few months ago and making friends has been hard until recently so I have learned to embrace doing fun things on my own or meeting new people I also aim to hit 15-20k steps every day

Lillipops · 15/05/2021 00:40

Get rid of the boys aka partner and son going for a 12 mile hike so I can get peace and watch shite on the telly....I do make sure they have a lovely picnic Grin

pepsirolla · 15/05/2021 00:56

Community musical theatre at local theatre (pre covid) terrifying and exhilarating in equal measure. Ages range from 9 to 70 and such brilliant fun. I can't really sing but in a chorus who knows. Totally out of my comfort zone but when the curtain comes down and the applause starts it is totally life affirming to be part of something so good

Quaagars · 15/05/2021 02:29

My hobbies?
Wine drinking, MN scrollinGring, Friends watching Grin
None of these take me out of the home though - once pubs and restaurants are open again next week I fully intend to do my bit for the local community and go out more lol

Seafog · 15/05/2021 02:29

@Frankiegoes for sure, where abouts roughly are you?

CoalCraft · 15/05/2021 06:04

What's a female hobby? Everyone deserves a break from the household now and then, doing whatever they like. No reason a woman can't enjoy cycling or hiking or sports... Or picnics and tea parties if that's what she's into!

My idea of a blissful, childfree weekend would be staying at home spending ten hours a day playing computer games 🤷 That said, I'd actually rather have DD around. So I guess my actual ideal weekend would be having someone in the house to quietly look after DD while I alternate between playing with a fed, napped, content DD and playing games. Grin

Oblomov21 · 15/05/2021 06:35

I do a lot of MN'ing.
I also sit and do nothing, on purpose.
I could stretch to eating a mint club in bed, no problem, if that's the criteria? Wink

Ragwort · 15/05/2021 08:19

subby I agree that exploring new places on your own is really good, whenever you do something with someone else there is always compromising and faffing about ... being alone is blissful Smile

Tibtab · 15/05/2021 08:21

Sewing, embroidery, quilting - I’ve been doing a lot of online classes and DH has DD for the day. They don’t interrupt me if I’m in my office.

Chickoletta · 15/05/2021 08:29

Gym
Swimming
Horses
Gardening
Poultry keeping
Singing in a choir (and also professionally)
Theatre

Love to be busy and active - couldn’t imagine not doing these things. I do also love weekend days doing not much at all from time to time.
