John Barrowman put his dick on co-star's shoulder

John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness has (had?) been my all-time favourite Doctor Who character. I knew JB has a history of indecently exposing himself on set multiple times, but today I learned that he not only exposed his dick repeatedly but also non-consensually touched fellow actors with it -- like Camille Coduri (who played Rose Tyler's mum)!

AIBU to think that he got away with this only because he is gay? If he had been straight, wouldn't non-consensually putting his dick on his female co-star's body from behind have landed him loads of trouble already? I was utterly shocked to watch the video -- I don't know how I should be feeling after learning that my favourite Doctor Who actor behaved in this despicable manner. Shock

If someone makes a racist "joke" it doesn't matter if they find it hilarious it is still a racist joke.

Alonelonelyloner · 08/05/2021 14:20

I've known 3 men (off the top of my head) who have used being gay as a get out to sexually assault women or at least to make women feel shit. Slapping their arse, pinching their boobs (hard and causing bruises "hahaha" etc (and actually these were all forms of hating women and their bodies). I lived with a gay man once who was a real misogynist.
It took me years to get over this bullshit. Luckily I have a very gay family (lots of gay relatives) enough to know that this is indeed a thing, but that I don't need to end up a homophobic knob for acknowledging it.
Shame on this fucker!

CandyLeBonBon · 08/05/2021 15:07

I too have been in the receiving end of really unpleasant comments about women from gay men. I don't get it? I think women are generally the first to be their allies? I know I am. I really don't understand why some gay men think it's ok to behave this way just because they're not straight. Doesn't matter what your sexuality is, flopping your dick out for shits and giggles, or grabbing a woman by the boobs is not ok from anyone!

But..... This just sound's like it's made up for a joke?

Haven't read beyond first t page before I get leapt on.

@FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop

Revolting man - he always gave me the ick. And yes I do think he gets away with it because he's gay and his targets are women. He's just a misogynist plain and simple.

I've disliked him ever since I saw him in Scotland near where I used to live. He was in a cafe with sunglasses on (in winter) looking like he was trying to be inconspicuous but ironically making a big show of trying to look inconspicuous. His boyfriend (husband?? 5 years ago or so) was warding off "fans" - or so he thought. I'd ordered a cappuccino and JB was next to the station for the stirrers and napkins. I went to get some and his boyfriend raised his hands and said "please do NOT bother John today, he is here to enjoy some private time". I was Hmm and said "actually I just wanted some napkins" and had to push past him. Pricks. Looking back I REALLY wish I'd said "who?" But I wasn't quick enough sadly.

Oh God I love Mumsnet. This story is priceless. It’s made my day. I think it tells us everything we need to know about him. What a pair of entitled knobs.

QuestionableMouse · 08/05/2021 16:10

The person who raped me said "he was just having a laugh".

Fucking vile behaviour. My nephews know that they don't flash their privates. They're three and five.

Oh wow, now another of JB's male co-stars from Torchwood/Doctor Who, Gareth David-Lloyd who played Ianto Jones, is defending him:

www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/john-barrowman-torchwood-doctor-who-b1844154.html

David-Lloyd, who starred in Torchwood as Ianto Jones, has spoken out, telling Metro.co.uk: “In my experience, John‘s behaviour on set was always meant to entertain, make people laugh and keep their spirits and energy high on what were sometimes very long working days.“

Defending Barrowman, he continued: “It maybe that because we were so close as a cast that professional lines were sometimes blurred in the excitement – I was too inexperienced to know any different but we were always laughing.”

Utterly disgusting. Pulling out your penis in public and putting it on a (female!) co-star without her consent is not "blurred professional lines". That's like saying an "exuberant" actor actually brings a real knife on set and randomly pulls it out and slashes an unsuspecting fellow actor's skin with it because he thinks it's funny. And David-Lloyd was "too inexperienced to know any different"? Bollocks. He can't play the gay card himself so he's pulling out the naive and innocent card now. I loved Torchwood, but can't imagine how I'd feel watching it again after all this. Sad

So sorry that happened to you @Blue4YOU wishing you all the support for your case Thanks

Apologies @TheQueef, I feel Jarvis Cocker should have had an humanitarian award, or possibly the Turner Prize, for that one act. Bursting so many pomposity bubbles at once. An achievement of the highest order.

'...meant to entertain...keep spirits and energy high...'

No, just no. Angry

guinnessguzzler · 08/05/2021 16:46

'...meant to entertain...keep spirits and energy high...'

I wonder if it occured to him to try a round of Kumbaya or Ging Gang Goolie first?

John‘s behaviour on set was always meant to entertain, make people laugh and keep their spirits and energy high on what were sometimes very long working days.

Daniel Day-Lewis worked long days and probably got very tired and drained. I don't think any colleagues ever put their dick on his shoulder? Almost like it's not a respectful thing to do.

Orgasmagorical · 08/05/2021 17:02

"too inexperienced to know any different"

That should mean that he can see the difference now, surely?

I’d have baked a cake or brought in a box of Krispy Kremes.

@OhReallyHowQuaint

Being gay is a or excuse. I used to have a gay male friend in my social circle who constantly grabbed women’s boobs and bums and thought it was hilarious. It wasn’t.
I did too, at school. Then the next minute he'd be telling us how disgusting women's bodies were. I think it's probably more common than we think.
TryingToKeepSmilingEveryDay · 08/05/2021 17:38

I was waiting for this to break after the Noel Clarke revelations because I remember at the time thinking how weird it was that the Torchwood/Dr Who actors would laugh about JB getting his willy out all the time. I was horrified that they accepted it.

Thinking about more recent examples of where inappropriate behaviour is passed off as tomfoolery, I felt very uncomfortable watching the League of their Own (where they go on a road trip) where Freddie Flintoff would randomly attempt to pull down the trousers of his co stars. You could see how uncomfortable it was making them (think it was Rob Beckett) but they all laughed so it was ok!! He probably thought it was fine as long as he didn’t do it to women...

SunsetBeetch · 08/05/2021 17:43

Oh and Jarvis didn't expose his arse. He lifts his jacket up at one point, but is wearing something underneath anyway.

(Timestamp is 4.45).

Lurleene · 08/05/2021 17:52

JB did a Facebook live event for fans a few years ago and ,lo and behold, his husband 'accidentally' wandered into shot stark bollock naked in the background. He got to show his willy to 4000 people in one go. 🙄

Can someone please start a petition to Parliament calling for John Barrowman to be stripped of his MBE? You have to be in the UK to start one (I'm not.) Please share it on Mumsnet!

Did HE get Barrowman's dick flopped on him? I doubt it. And even so, it isn't quite the same power dynamic.

DirtyDancing · 08/05/2021 18:43

It’s indecent exposure. The industry / context is irrelevant. You can not go round at work getting your penis out. And to the ‘she didn’t seem bothered about it comment’ he didn’t know that as he did it, did he? No one should witness or be subjected to someone’s genitalia in this way.
