To ask why I can't sit with you?

I keep seeing house makeovers recently with an illuminated sign saying "You can't sit with us."

What's that all about? It doesn't sound very homely.

Is it a quote from a TV show?

OP posts:
sapnupuas · 05/05/2021 17:48

It's from Mean Girls.

dopenguinsdance · 05/05/2021 17:49

Quote from the film "Mean Girls"?

Boo2997 · 05/05/2021 17:50

A quote from Mean girls

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 05/05/2021 17:51

Oh God, it's akin to those stupid eyelashes on cars, isn't it? Envy

Quaagars · 05/05/2021 17:51

Because you don't go here!
(Don't forget to wear pink on Wednesday if we do occasionally let you lol)

Quaagars · 05/05/2021 17:53

Oh and yes, it's from the film Mean Girls. (I assume it is, anyway as that's what I automatically thought on just reading the title and before clicking on the thread!)
Great film, get it watched Grin

PeridotEyes · 05/05/2021 17:55

OK, I just Googled 'Mean Girls' and it appears to be a teen film from over 15 years ago... still not sure why it's suddenly a fashion in decor.

OP posts:
TheSpottedZebra · 05/05/2021 17:55

Where on earth are you seeing these?
It's basically (almost) advertising that the owner of the sign is bitchy! Sort of the evil twin of Live, Love, Laugh.

Is this an insta thing?

BrumBoo · 05/05/2021 17:56

Mean Girls, the original Meme Generator! Brilliant film, so funny and always relatable.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/05/2021 17:56

Yep, quote from the film "Mean Girls". If you wear the wrong clothes on the wrong day you can't sit with the popular girls at lunch.

BrumBoo · 05/05/2021 18:00

How have you not heard of it, never mind not seen it??!!

Mean Girls hasn't just suddenly popped back into existence, it's a huge part of pop-culture. 'Stop trying to make fetch happen' or 'it's October 3rd' is no different from 'he's her lobster' or 'we were on a break!'.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 05/05/2021 18:02

Mean girls is a great film!

Tambora · 05/05/2021 18:02

@Waxonwaxoff0

Yep, quote from the film "Mean Girls". If you wear the wrong clothes on the wrong day you can't sit with the popular girls at lunch.
Ah. So it's bullying then. Lovely.

Who doesn't want a quote like that in their house? Confused

swashbucklecheer · 05/05/2021 18:03

I've never heard of it

OneCalamerra · 05/05/2021 18:05

Yeah it’s not really bullying to be fair - Regina (the queen bee who is very bitchy) makes a set of rules including that her clique can only wear sweatpants on Fridays, and then tries to sit with them in sweatpants on a different day and they stand up to her saying the rules apply equally to her.

It’s a moment of empowerment of the “follower” girls standing up to her, rather than bullying.

I may be over invested in this film.

NiceGerbil · 05/05/2021 18:05

Huh?

Because they've just farted would be my guess Grin

More of s warning than an instruction I reckon

Quaagars · 05/05/2021 18:06

Ah. So it's bullying then. Lovely.

Who doesn't want a quote like that in their house

Oh FFS lol
I think you really need to watch the film to appreciate the quote.
Yes, The Plastics are bullies.
Which is why you cheer when they start being taken down lol

NiceGerbil · 05/05/2021 18:07

???!!!

I only recognise the last one!

I'm 47. I'm guessing my parents wouldn't have a clue about any of this tbh Grin

MsHedgehog · 05/05/2021 18:07

Ah. So it's bullying then. Lovely

Says someone who obviously hasn’t seen the film so doesn’t understand the context in which it was said!

She doesn’t even go here!

Pumperthepumper · 05/05/2021 18:07

Ohhhhhhh this thread is going to turn into a ‘I’ve never even HEARD of Harry Potter’, I can just feel it.

Rewis · 05/05/2021 18:07

The film is upthere as a teen classic with Breakfas club, Clueless etc.

It's just a funny pop culture references. You go Glen Coco.

Mammyloveswine · 05/05/2021 18:08

Wow that's so Fetch! You go Glen Coco!

Quaagars · 05/05/2021 18:08

She doesn't even go here!

Grin

Now now, I think we should all just bake a cake with rainbows and smiles lol

OwlBeThere · 05/05/2021 18:08

It’s not bullying @Tambora the entire point of mean girls is the mean girls learn that being mean gets you nowhere. The sign is just a quote from the film in a jokey way. Nothing more. It’s no different to having a friends sign up saying ‘we were on a break’ or something.

Quaagars · 05/05/2021 18:09

OK, it is actually impossible to read "You go Glenn Coco!" without hearing it in your head
