To ask why I can't sit with you?

I keep seeing house makeovers recently with an illuminated sign saying "You can't sit with us."

What's that all about? It doesn't sound very homely.

Is it a quote from a TV show?

Someone wrote that I wasn't a virgin because I wear super jumbo tampons but it's not my fault I have a heavy flow and a wide set vagina!

Pinkflipflop85 · 05/05/2021 20:36

Heathers the musical is brilliant.

Lovewinemorethanhusband · 05/05/2021 20:37

I love mean girls and I'm 40 and would live that sign on my wall !

ghostyslovesheets · 05/05/2021 20:37

Love Mean Girls - got a 'big old LESbian crush' on it in fact!

Quaagars · 05/05/2021 20:40

You smell like a baby prostitute

Chicchicchicchiclana · 05/05/2021 20:45

"Mean Girls is a genius film and if women ruled the world it would be up there in the top 100 films instead of pretentious shite like ‘Apocalypse Now’ or ‘The Godfather’ "

Good lord

Tribblers · 05/05/2021 20:45

'Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion'. Donnie Darko, but thought I'd throw it in anyway Grin

ThursdayLastWeek · 05/05/2021 20:46

YY I’m late 30s and Clueless is my film.
I love MG too, but it’s not the original - for me.

Labyrinthian · 05/05/2021 20:46

How has nobody yet discussed that the Taoiseach (Irish prime minister) did in fact use a quote from Mean Girls in his big covid address to the nation ... If it's good enough for Leo... (Sky news even did a story on it)

Confusedandshaken · 05/05/2021 20:47

My now adult DCs loved Mean Girls. Apart form the other quotes here, it gave our family another quote we use often. . We might say to one another than X is being a "mean girl' but we all know it means that X is a bitch.

Quaagars · 05/05/2021 20:49

@Chicchicchicchiclana

Good lord

Have you seen Mean Girls?
The poster you're quoting made some great points

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 05/05/2021 20:53

I was half a virgin when I met him 😂

Mean Girls is one of those films I could watch over and over again!

ComDummings · 05/05/2021 20:57

That’s why her hair is so big, it’s full of secrets

Pepsimirror · 05/05/2021 20:57

You go glen coco!

HereWeGoAgainRoundAndRound · 05/05/2021 21:05

@Waxonwaxoff0

Yep, quote from the film "Mean Girls". If you wear the wrong clothes on the wrong day you can't sit with the popular girls at lunch.
Very true 😁
cliftonbear · 05/05/2021 21:09

maybe you’d know if you were like me- I’m not like a regular mom, i’m a cool mom 😎

AdditionalCharacter · 05/05/2021 21:11

@PeridotEyes

OK, I just Googled 'Mean Girls' and it appears to be a teen film from over 15 years ago... still not sure why it's suddenly a fashion in decor.
Probably the same reason why Friends has made a huge comeback with merchandise- Netflix!
CHISistoast · 05/05/2021 21:13

It's a brilliant film.

mnahmnah · 05/05/2021 21:13

@RichardMarxisinnocent

I’m 41, so 16 when Clueless came out. Only little when Breakfast club was out and I only actually saw it for the first time recently. Always heard of it though! Obviously if you’re late 40s then that’s a bit of a difference Smile

PerspicaciousGreen · 05/05/2021 21:18

@SpeedRunParent

I'm in my 40's too and breakfast club and Heather's are more that era. I was a teen in the 90's and definitely had no knowledge of mean girls. I doubt it would have appealed though, clueless certainly didn't.
It would have been difficult for you to see it as a teen in the 90s as it came out in 2004.

I moderately like Clueless, but Mean Girls is definitely a cut above in terms of quality of writing and astuteness of commentary.

MrsKoala · 05/05/2021 21:23

@NiceGerbil

'Mean Girls hasn't just suddenly popped back into existence, it's a huge part of pop-culture. 'Stop trying to make fetch happen' or 'it's October 3rd' is no different from 'he's her lobster' or 'we were on a break!'.'

???!!!

I only recognise the last one!

I'm 47. I'm guessing my parents wouldn't have a clue about any of this tbh Grin

I also only recognised the last one. I’m 44. Never seen Mean Girls. Just thought it was a crappy teen film. Didn’t realise it was such a cultural lynchpin Grin

tbf I thought just today that I am so unconnected to modern culture now, as I listened to Uptown Funk and realised it’s the most recent song I know. Blush

CrochetBug · 05/05/2021 21:24

I'm alternating between booing my eyes out at Corrie, and laughing at this thread. Not a good look! I did wear pink today though. (And all the other colours, thanks Rainbow cardigan)

When I went for dinner at a new friends house a few years ago, her then teen DDs were quoting Mean Girls at each other. My friend apologised, telling me it was "just some silly film they love". I quoted straight back at them. Her DDs said that was the moment they knew we were 'sisters' Grin

NiceGerbil · 05/05/2021 21:25

Lol mrskoala. I had heard the title mean girls but I assumed it was at TV series like I dunno Beverly hills 21010 or something.

Now that was a good show Grin
