To store baking trays in the oven?

We have two ovens stacked on top of each other. Top oven is the main one that is used multiple times a day. Bottom oven is used maybe once or twice a week. I cook and bake a lot. As a result we have a lot of cookware, most of which are stored in the kitchen drawers. But there are some things we use regularly (and not regularly) that i keep stored in the bottom oven. Not loads. But 4-5 baking trays of various sizes as well as 3 cast iron pans I use daily.

When the bottom oven is in use the baking trays have to come out and sit on the counter, table or floor. But my husband makes such an ordeal out of this every bloody time. Hugging and puffing saying that storing the extra baking trays in the oven isn't normal and he's never known anyone else who does that. He's only ever lived at home or with me (for 20 years!) I feel like he's making such an issue out of a stupid little thing but he feels that taking the trays out on the rare occasion he needs to use the oven is such a mission.

Does anyone else keep their baking trays in the oven?? Is that weird? Or is he weird? 😂

I do. And famously chef Nadia from Bake Off's mum used to. She told a story about it.

I do. It takes seconds to remove them from the oven.

I do too. It’s an ideal place to store large items!

Yup. Second oven is full of baking trays. It earns its keep as a cupboard when it's not switched on.

It has never occurred to me to store them anywhere else!

Me too and with a similar set up to you - two ovens, only use the bottom one occasionally, so generally keep baking trays in there.

I do too although I wish I had space to store them somewhere else

I do this! My husband finds it strange aswell and gets in a right flap over it because it doesn't make sense to him!

I do, but I generally leave them in there when I’m using the oven!

I've always stored them in the oven. My mum did too.

I do sometimes, detoxing depending on what way things are stacked in the press it can be easier to just shove a tin in the oven rather than lift things out to fit it in. Lives there till I need it or the oven. I have two and it's rare that I use both anyway.

No detoxing. Don't know where that came from!

All my trays live in the oven (though cake and brownie pans live in the cupboard). Between the two ovens it is rare that the pans need to sit on the side - though ironically they did today as I was making dinner and baking a cake for MILs birthday tomorrow.

I used to. DH kept preheating the oven without checking. No biggie but it was a pain in the arse juggling the hot trays.

I do too. Doesn't everyone?

Haha amazing. Thanks for the reuse everyone and for making me feel like I'm not nuts. As usual husband just likes to make a fuss of anything he can if it even remotely inconveniences him. I'd love to read out these replies to him but he'd be so annoyed I even posted it on here 🙄

We do but recently as I have a bad back and the oven is low, it really annoys me. I reorganised the kitchen so theyd have another home but they keep being put back in the oven, by people who dont have to wreck their back fishing out numerous trays and glass dishes before they can preheat the oven. 😡

Oh the poor lamb. Everybody knows how much of struggle it is to take baking trays from the oven and put them on the side. How utterly dreadful for him Grin
