To store baking trays in the oven?

We have two ovens stacked on top of each other. Top oven is the main one that is used multiple times a day. Bottom oven is used maybe once or twice a week. I cook and bake a lot. As a result we have a lot of cookware, most of which are stored in the kitchen drawers. But there are some things we use regularly (and not regularly) that i keep stored in the bottom oven. Not loads. But 4-5 baking trays of various sizes as well as 3 cast iron pans I use daily.

When the bottom oven is in use the baking trays have to come out and sit on the counter, table or floor. But my husband makes such an ordeal out of this every bloody time. Hugging and puffing saying that storing the extra baking trays in the oven isn't normal and he's never known anyone else who does that. He's only ever lived at home or with me (for 20 years!) I feel like he's making such an issue out of a stupid little thing but he feels that taking the trays out on the rare occasion he needs to use the oven is such a mission.

Does anyone else keep their baking trays in the oven?? Is that weird? Or is he weird? 😂

I thought everyone stored them in the oven! And I'm exactly the same as you OP - two stacked ovens, trays kept in the bottom oven. I did try for a time to store them elsewhere, but it just works better keeping them there.

How many people has he asked? Pretty certain it won't be any many.

I know 😂 Exactly this. He won't have asked anyone.

All my trays live in the oven.

Kpo58 · 02/05/2021 00:15

I hate extra baking trays being stored in the oven. They need their own place to be stored else where or they clog up the counter space when cooking. Also you never know if they have been used or not as sometimes they get shoved back in the oven after cooking if I'm running out of space

Mamanyt · 02/05/2021 00:15

I do, too. Takes seconds to shif them, and opens up the cupboards for things that are harder to store.

SHIFT, dammit.
DoubleDessertPlease · 02/05/2021 00:17

I do too, in the top oven which I hardly use

deardia · 02/05/2021 00:37

I do. I only have 2 pizza tray and a roasting tray in my oven. They get used everytime the oven is turned on so not really just sitting on the table top, most of the time only two gets used. I put baking sheet on the pizza trays so even if it's not pizza they still get used.
All other trays for baking etc are stored away in the cupboard

Nat6999 · 02/05/2021 00:41

I do because my oven only gets used for pizzas, I use my halogen oven for most things or my slow cooker, plus my grill is knackered so the space is only useful for storage.

PrincessPeachh · 02/05/2021 02:13

I’ve never heard of storing them in the oven!! I would say I don’t know anybody that does that, but it’s never come up in conversation so now I’m curious what my friends and family do?!

Sarahzb · 02/05/2021 02:37

Meh. That’s where they belong.

cstaff · 02/05/2021 02:39

Me too together with my mam and sister. Probably my brothers too but couldn't say for sure. Perfect for ensuring that everything is dried properly 👌

Talia99 · 02/05/2021 02:45

Doesn’t everyone? If your DH’s mother didn’t, I think she is the unusual one.

echt · 02/05/2021 03:59

Where else would they be?

I'll tell you. We had a new kitchen fitted in 2013. My late DH chose all all the fittings bar tiles and colours as he was the cook, so only fair.

Only this year did I find a handleless drawer under the oven for storing stuff. DH never found it. Blush :o

AnUnoriginalUsername · 02/05/2021 06:32

I don't. But we use both ovens often and it would just be a pain.

Els1e · 02/05/2021 06:48

Yep, I do too. It takes a couple of mins max to shift them.

HeronLanyon · 02/05/2021 06:58

I only (haha) have one oven and all baking trays roasting tins cooling racks are in there.
It is a faff every time I use the oven to put them somewhere. Usually I’m also using the hob at the same time and I have a smallish kitchen.
Simply don’t have room in a cupboard for them even if I bought one of those racks to stack them vertically.
Was brought up by an oven storer.
My wish is for a drawer under the oven to put them in. That would have to be under the other dream of a proving drawer.

ineedaholidayandwine · 02/05/2021 06:58

My regular baking tray/roasting tin lives in the oven.
The tray for baking biscuits lives in a drawer as it's not used often.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 02/05/2021 07:09

@gelatodipistacchio

I know people do this, but it absolutely makes my skin crawl

Have you had that checked by your GP, that's a worrying reaction to something so banal and normal Confused
TheVolturi · 02/05/2021 07:29

I do this! We have a range cooker with two ovens and storage area underneath. I use this and one of the ovens to store all pans and trays. That way they're handy! And I only really use the other oven.

longwayoff · 02/05/2021 07:39

Everyone keeps them in the oven although I did have a cooker that had a storage drawer for them. Your DH is BU. Insist he hand crafts a special storage cupboard for them that's more convenient than your current arrangement. That will keep him busy for a while.

windysocks · 02/05/2021 07:41

We keep ours in the oven. It does annoy me seeing them out on the side when oven in use but as long as they get put away its ok. ( it's usually me who puts them away though!)

megletthesecond · 02/05/2021 07:42

Yanbu.
I've had to do this since I bought proper pizza baking trays. They're huge and won't fit in the drawer.

Strugglingtodomybest · 02/05/2021 07:44

We've got 2 ovens and yes, the baking trays are kept in the less used oven.

MotherOfCrocodiles · 02/05/2021 07:46

My DH regularly chucks dirty roasting tins with leftover food back on them in the oven rather than cleaning them and putting them in the cupboard.

Then they get burnt to a crisp next time someone puts the oven on, days later

Count yourself lucky Envy
