AIBU to eat 2?

I want your honest opinion as I fear I might be being greedy..
I bought a pack of sea bass. You get 2 fillets in a pack. Now, I would say that is for 1 person?!

Someone I work with says it should be 1 fillet per person.
There are 109cal in 1 fillet. That's not enough for an adult for dinner is it?!
I shall be serving with either salad or possibly a bit of roasted veg if that helps.
Hmm

I'd eat two. Otherwise you'll still be hungry and probably seek out less healthy stuff to fill you up

ErrolTheDragon · 12/04/2021 14:26

If the fillet is only half a sea bass and 109 cals, then you're right. One fillet would be appropriate for a light lunch. Is it any of your colleague's business anyway?

AngusThermopyle · 12/04/2021 14:27

I don't eat them but I give DH two. They're quite thin anyway and once you cook them there's even less.

Crunchymum · 12/04/2021 14:27

If it is just the fish and salad or veg then I'd have both.

If you are having another accompaniment (IE: new potatoes) then one is fine.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 12/04/2021 14:28

Your colleague might be one of mumsnets famous competitive undereaters.

Screw her. Eat two.

Marshasthorn · 12/04/2021 14:28

They’re really thin. Eat 2! I insist!

Anoisagusaris · 12/04/2021 14:28

Sea bass is a very light fish. You normally get 2 fillets in a restaurant.

katy1213 · 12/04/2021 14:29

Those two fillet packs are piddling little slivers of fish; I sometimes buy lemon sole - and I always eat the whole packet. Better than filling up on chips!
Why would you care what someone at work thinks about your dinner?

Shoppingwithmother · 12/04/2021 14:29

Yeah I definitely eat two - and potatoes and loads of veg as well if for a proper evening meal.

MagnoliaBeige · 12/04/2021 14:30

What weight/size is a fillet? I’d probably have two with just veg/salad but one if I was having potatoes with the veg/salad too

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 12/04/2021 14:31

Fish are not very calorific, they are mostly a protein food. So I would have just the one with the roast veg, plus some potato or rice on the side to fill me up.

SirenSays · 12/04/2021 14:31

Eat one and pad out the meal or eat them both.

Cocomarine · 12/04/2021 14:32

I think it’s one of those decisions that you have to make for yourself 🤷🏻‍♀️

Do you really allow your colleagues’ opinions to have an actual impact on what you choose to eat?

Palavah · 12/04/2021 14:32

YANBU - same problem with the sea bass fillets in my supermarket

ShutUpAlex · 12/04/2021 14:34

I have one and my 6 year old has one but I do loads of veg and carbs with it.

Hmm

No. But I do have portion control issues and it is helpful to me to ask others on a public forum whether I am being greedy or not.
Did you really need to comment if you had no interest in contributing?

Hell, I could eat 4 and I'm a skinny minny 🤣

WeeWillyWanky · 12/04/2021 14:35

I'm surprised that nobody has told the OP that 2 fillets of sea bass should feed a family of 4 for at least a week.

pepsicolagirl · 12/04/2021 14:35

95g each

I'm with the poster who said 2 plus salad/veg and potatoes.

hartwood · 12/04/2021 14:37

My 5 and 1 year old have one each which they always finish so yes I'd say two is perfectly reasonable for an adult.

HTH1 · 12/04/2021 14:38

Two isn’t at all greedy - I think the main reason some people may have one each is due to cost.

Cocomarine · 12/04/2021 14:38

I did contribute. Two points - one, that how much you want to eat is your decision and two, that you should ignore colleague opinions.

You didn’t say you had portion control issues.

Even with that information - you know the calories you need (approx) and you know the calories in the fish.

You also know what else you would eat in the day - we don’t.

My husband and I would eat one each, with plenty of veg. Also potatoes for him, but not for me as my calorific need is lower as I’m (a) in a more sedentary job and (b) middle aged and peri menopausal.

GrandDuchessRomanov · 12/04/2021 14:39

I think the fillets in fish packets are getting thinner all the time.

I eat 2 salmon fillets easily and I am not overweight.

BarbaraofSeville · 12/04/2021 14:39

Googling suggests a fish portion size is actually around 140 g, so it's more like 1.5 than one or two, but it depends what you eat with it and how hungry you are.

If you want just fish and veg have 2, but surely you know that 218 calories plus veg or salad on the side is still a very light meal?

I suppose the other argument for not eating 2 would be that sea bass is probably quite expensive, so it might cost more than you can afford, but you could probably also balance that out with a much cheaper meal on another day like an omelette.
