AIBU to eat 2?

I want your honest opinion as I fear I might be being greedy..
I bought a pack of sea bass. You get 2 fillets in a pack. Now, I would say that is for 1 person?!

Someone I work with says it should be 1 fillet per person.
There are 109cal in 1 fillet. That's not enough for an adult for dinner is it?!
I shall be serving with either salad or possibly a bit of roasted veg if that helps.
Hmm

I would just eat one. I don't calorie count though and would happily have another if I wanted it but I always presumed they were 1 per person. I would always serve them with potatoes/couscous/rice as well as salad though.

thebillyotea · 12/04/2021 14:42

Not everything has to be about calories! 2 makes it a big portion to eat in one go.

If you are still hungry , eat 2. It also depends what you eat for the rest of the day. There's nothing wrong in being used to smaller portions and not liking eating an enormous plate at once.

Member984815 · 12/04/2021 14:45

Eat 2 sea bass fillets are often small

Aprilx · 12/04/2021 14:46

I would say it is one fillet per person and is simply a low calorie meal. You don’t have to eat more because something is low in calories.

How does 190 grams of fish plus salad make it a big meal?Hmm surely less than 190 grams after cooking it as well.
QueenPaw · 12/04/2021 14:46

I would eat 2

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 12/04/2021 14:49

95g each

That's a bit piddling. According to the NHS dietary advice website

"A healthy, balanced diet should include at least 2 portions of fish a week, including 1 of oily fish. Most of us aren't eating this much. A portion is around 140g (4.9oz)."

So you'd be justified in having one or two! And adjusting the side dishes a bit to make up.

Vooga · 12/04/2021 14:49

I would eat 1 but I always have sea bass with potatoes and veg so it's a proper meal.

Agree with this. We both have one each, but have lots of other stuff on the plate so it's not a biggie. Hold on. Am I going to get shouted down now for "competitive under-eating"? Hmm

Ha - cross posted with you! I have the same.
Silverfly · 12/04/2021 14:52

As you're having it with salad or veg, then two isn't greedy at all and it still a light meal. If you were having it with potatoes (or another carb) I'd expect to eat one.

luxxlisbon · 12/04/2021 14:52

It will say on the packaging if it is supposed to be for one portion or two. Generally any fish that come in those packs of two I would consider it one piece per portion but it is your meal and you can eat what you want.

VladmirsPoutine · 12/04/2021 14:52

2 is fine. I do think people who go on about how a plate of dust with a sprinkling of tap water is "just far too much" to be very tedious. A sort of competitive under-eating.

I want to point out a tin of soup claims to be for 2 people.
Greenrubber · 12/04/2021 14:56

Eat them both then watch Seaspiricy

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 12/04/2021 14:59

Except when it comes to "five a day", when the tin of lentil soup I shared with DH (with garlic bread before we hit competitive undereating!) claimed to be "two of your five a day" in big writing on the label, with a small asterisk that said "one whole tin" in teeny print.

Ahaha it didn't even take more than two posts before the old competitive eating trope gets wheeled out!

FGS - it's ok to share a pack of two fish between yourselves as a couple. We're both healthy. There's nothing "competitive" about our eating - we just don't have the instinct within us to make healthy folk feel stupid for eating healthily by calling them "competitive under-eaters".

ReginaTheEvilQueen · 12/04/2021 15:00

As its for a dinner for an adult & they are not high in calories or very big, i would say have them both along with the salad and some kind of veg as you suggested, sounds yummy 🤤

Klarajannsson · 12/04/2021 15:03

YANBU. Better than being hungry and attacking the cheese afterwards (or is that just me?).

Goatinthegarden · 12/04/2021 15:11

If it was for a packed lunch, I’d have a single fillet and loads of salad (followed by a coffee and possibly some sort of tasty wee nibble).

If it was dinner, I’d have both fillets, lots of veg and some sort of grain or pulse to fill me up. Fish is a great source of protein and very nutritious.

I’m not on a diet, but I usually try to stick to eating about 1300-1600 cals on a ‘normal’ day. It’s much better to fill up on whole foods, than to eat teeny tiny meals and feel the urge to snack on less nutritious foods.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 12/04/2021 15:11

I'd say one each as long as there potatoes (and lots of them) and a fuckton of roasted veg.

Gives space for a dessert of some kind that way.

1forAll74 · 12/04/2021 15:11

I usually eat one portion of sea bass, with some salad,or some green beans or tender stemmed broccoli, but I could easily eat two sea bass, I just tend to eke my food out, and have another day of looking forward to some more sea bass on another day.

cheeseandpicklesandie · 12/04/2021 15:12

2 for an adult with veg and potatoes or chips. I had to share a packet of two salmon fillets with my 2 kids yesterday, they ate most of it and I had a tiny bit with a cheesy cauliflower grill and my DH had the last piece of breaded fish in the freezer. Love fresh fish and so do my little ones, but it's so pricey and tiny.

GravityFalls · 12/04/2021 15:17

They're expensive, so one each in our house. I could eat two but veg, potatoes and salad cost a lot less so makes sense to fill up the plate with those.

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/04/2021 15:18

I always have two as I live alone and it seems daft to keep one as they are so small anyway.
Yesterday I had fishfingers, the box contained ten, I had five.
It's logical to have half the box.

(I've seen Seaspiracy btw, I still choose to eat fish)
