To think people who drive

those tragic cars with a big fat gaping A-hole exhaust, sound like an amplified hairdryer?

You can't sit with a window open anymore, and it seems to have become more popular since covid.

To be honest, it qualifies as extreme noise pollution to my mind, and whilst it is supposed to be 'anti-social', bugger all gets done about it.

Just a simple walk to the supermarket can make you want to wear ear plugs, it's so violent and aggressive I have no idea what the fuck.

Who are these arses?

Human beings spending their own money on things that give them an amount of pleasure, that happen to be different to the things you like.

LetSophieGo · 08/04/2021 21:52

No shit Sherlock!

I have No Idea what you're talking about, and I'm now picturing a cross between a hairdryer and a classic Goodwood racing car Grin

You obviously live in a more prosperous area than mine.

LetSophieGo · 08/04/2021 21:52

never heard of a modded exhaust??

@LetSophieGo

No shit Sherlock!
Nice. Hmm
JackieTheFart · 08/04/2021 21:53

I was accidentally one of those once Blush.

My exhaust had a hole in it, but it being winter combined with loud music, I never heard it. Then summer time came and I could hear it blatting REALLY loudly (double Blush). I really wish a neighbour had told me but no one mentioned it! I got it fixed the week I realised.

Not the same as what you’re saying but thought I’d share!

LetSophieGo · 08/04/2021 21:54

Ambleside, cumbria. This isn't location specific but possibly where there are more A roads or busy roads at least.
Have a friend in Manchester who says they're cruising around residential streets, soooo....

StoneofDestiny · 08/04/2021 21:54

Some people want you to know they are there - same arses who play their stereo so loud in the car the road vibrates, the same idiots who play music in their garden forcing their neighbours to hear it.

Igotfiveonit · 08/04/2021 21:54

I have no idea what you’re talking about either.

I think it’s a you problem.

JackieTheFart · 08/04/2021 21:54

It’s not modded exhausts in our area it’s off-road bikes and quads. Not often, but it’s still annoying to hear.

LolaSmiles · 08/04/2021 21:55

I've no idea what they're actually called but I've heard a lot of them. DH and I think it's the knobhead/cool dude alert system where the driver thinks they look cool, but most people think they're bit of a knob.

I wouldn't necessarily say they're automatically noise pollution, but they are really quite stupid looking and sounding

Janaih · 08/04/2021 21:55

Penis extensions

LetSophieGo · 08/04/2021 21:56

yeh sure they don't exist I must just be mad Grin

I don’t know what you mean either. I’ve never heard of a modded exhaust.

LetSophieGo · 08/04/2021 21:58

Not something that we experience here despite several supercars being parked outside blocks (lots of second homes) I think its area specific

Daffodil21 · 08/04/2021 22:00

@LetSophieGo absolutely not mad at all. I wish I didn't know what you were talking about though! They are an absolute nightmare! They race around revving their exhausts and sit outside our house (it's a square with lots of parking). Does my absolute head in. Thankfully they listened during lockdown so we had a nice break but you can tell the rules are starting to change 🙉🙉🙉

SheldonesqueIsAlmostHuman · 08/04/2021 22:00

Or amplified anus.

I don’t need to hear your car. Or when you change gear. Or your taste in music. Or you wheelspinning in the car park night after night.
Biscuit not a biscuit.

Sparklingbrook · 08/04/2021 22:03

There's someone like that up this street. The (newish) car actually looks normal but sounds awful. DH told me the owner had modified the exhaust to do all the popping and banging. Confused
Apparently that is something that is desired.

1Morewineplease · 08/04/2021 22:03

I bloody hate these modified trash cans. So noisy and they drive around believing that we're so in awe of their midget penises.

LolaSmiles · 08/04/2021 22:05

DicklessWonder · 08/04/2021 22:06

I drive a jap import car and haven’t modded anything. It has a loud exhaust and very very powerful engine. I use a baffle when not on the track but it’s still louder than the average car.

I’m a woman in my mid-40s who likes to drive. And yes, I take it on the track. I don’t drink or smoke or eat meat. I don’t have pets. This is my fun.

I don’t much appreciate other people’s choices, like smelly log burners, motorbikes, cats that shit in my garden, the waft of BBQd animal carcasses across my washing line, sex ponds or trampolines.

So you do you and I’ll do me.

DicklessWonder · 08/04/2021 22:07

When I lived in London the penthouse owner of our block of flats kept a Lamborghini in the underground carpark. When he would drive out the whole place shook. Fabulous.
LongDistanceClaret · 08/04/2021 22:08

Always men, nearly always young. Definitely with a level of inferiority complex which they are making up for with their loud exhaust.

LetSophieGo · 08/04/2021 22:08

I hear it a LOT when I visit my family in Chorley, Greater Manchester.

Lots in Lakes too but mostly passing through.

I once looked it up on reddit wondering it if was just me and everyone loved it. Apparently there are enthusiasts, which is fine, but christ it does tear your ears out.

I heard it was deliberate to imitate the sound of more expensive cars.
That's why I called it tragic, but then that makes me a snob - but if they would just STFU and not make everyone else suffer it, then all's fair.
