To think people who drive

those tragic cars with a big fat gaping A-hole exhaust, sound like an amplified hairdryer?

You can't sit with a window open anymore, and it seems to have become more popular since covid.

To be honest, it qualifies as extreme noise pollution to my mind, and whilst it is supposed to be 'anti-social', bugger all gets done about it.

Just a simple walk to the supermarket can make you want to wear ear plugs, it's so violent and aggressive I have no idea what the fuck.

Who are these arses?

I do understand the teens in the pimped up cars like their poor mums corsa with the cat removed are annoying, but it's a fleeting noise.

But they are happy, keeping busy, not doing much other than meeting friends and it's their social platform, I'd rather than than them all be locked up on xboxes.

They are our future engineers, mechanics, doctors.. noisy pains in the arse but given that every generation I can recall has some variation of a hot hatch it won't be going away for a while and I just hope they stay safe and don't crash and kill a bunch of others in the process.

I'm not sure. I wouldn't really want my 19 year old doing it. Hanging around Maccies etc and driving up and down the dual carriageway in a popping/farting car for no reason. They have been a few meets in the next town that have had to be broken up because the cars were speeding and the spectators were in danger.

He's currently car shopping but noisy exhaust isn't top of his list thankfully.

No, I don't think they are.

I know it's stupid that so many .london roads are now 20mph but these guys are dangerous as well as loud.

One of my mates was jogging in high vis, crossing at a pedestrian crossing and got hit. He is okay but legal case ongoing. Obviously the driver wasn't taxed, not sure on insurance.

I was waiting at a bus stop on a corner once and one suddenly appeared so loud, everyone jumped - and then swore.

And they do crash and kill others in the process.

for me it is only the noise issue.
I don't think they're any over likely to hit someone than any other vehicle.

I have seen one of these cunts blasting my eardrums and going so slow your couldn't kill a hedgehog.

I guess I don't get the culture.
but hey ho, I am only doing an AIBU because in a somewhat lighthearted way I think they should be napalmed.

YANBU op my upstairs neighbours have a fucking Subaru that makes an absolute racket I hate it they are both in their 50’s and you know when they are going out they can’t just reverse in either like a normal person nah they have to Rev their engine to make as much noise as possible they think nothing of going out at midnight making a racket. I hope they move out soon or get rid of that damn car don’t care which happens first but it better happen soon.

I drive a jap import car and haven’t modded anything. It has a loud exhaust and very very powerful engine. I use a baffle when not on the track but it’s still louder than the average car.

I’m a woman in my mid-40s who likes to drive. And yes, I take it on the track. I don’t drink or smoke or eat meat. I don’t have pets. This is my fun.

I don’t much appreciate other people’s choices, like smelly log burners, motorbikes, cats that shit in my garden, the waft of BBQd animal carcasses across my washing line, sex ponds or trampolines.

So you do you and I’ll do me.

A lot of cars have pops and bangs from the factory, I’m thinking along the lines of Golf R and A45 AMG which just sound contrived and mapped in. A performance or classic car with a fruity exhaust which naturally crackles and pops on the overrun is joyous thing indeed. Even a screaming Honda VTEC 4-pot sounds good with a loud exhaust being pushed to 8/9k rpm. Loudest car I have currently is a BMW V10 with an aftermarket exhaust, sounds like Armageddon at full chat.

You are totally not unreasonable. Particularly in Cumbria. And it’s not as if these juvenile boy racers can speed around there. Cumbria’s always too full of noisy day trippers going for a drive, rather than getting their lazy arses actually up in the hills.

These are usually dickless twats who think they make up their status by the car they drive.
