those tragic cars with a big fat gaping A-hole exhaust, sound like an amplified hairdryer?

You can't sit with a window open anymore, and it seems to have become more popular since covid.

To be honest, it qualifies as extreme noise pollution to my mind, and whilst it is supposed to be 'anti-social', bugger all gets done about it.

Just a simple walk to the supermarket can make you want to wear ear plugs, it's so violent and aggressive I have no idea what the fuck.

Who are these arses?

@DicklessWonder

I’m also close to ordering a GR Yaris. Have you seen it? 😈
~DH’s~ Mine’s due to arrive mid June. We had to sell the M2 when we lost our income due to the pandemic so have treated ourselves once business picked back up. Can’t wait!
PomegranateQueen · 09/04/2021 09:29

YANBU, the young lad down the road has recently treated himself to a modified Fiat 500 that's 5x louder than the bin lorries. Very annoying when you are sat out in the garden.

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 09/04/2021 09:41

That's not why the term 'jap' is deemed as racist or the term 'Scot' would be deemed offensive by your reasoning. The term 'jap' is offensive for other reasons. Google is your friend.

Yes I know, I was replying to the PP who said that 'jap' cant be offensive because its 'shorthand'. There are lots of words that are 'just shorthand' that are offensive because of the history of their use, the example I gave (which everyone knows is a racist slur) being one of them, 'jap' being another.

TheVanguardSix · 09/04/2021 09:48

DS19 and I were just talking about the tragedy that is a modified Yaris/Panda/Vauxhall Corsa. His granny's offered to sell him her purple Fiat Panda and the discussion was should he just become an all-out wanker and modify it OR should he just drive it around, shouting 'bus wankers!' from his rolled-down window... or do both? Just totally lean into becoming a luxury-sized dickhead. Grin

BagLadyy · 09/04/2021 09:51

Loads of them round here.

Shitty old cars that teenagers want to make seem like a fast car is my assumption.

Just your standard knobhead.

I won't have it compared to ear blastingly loud in car music though.

I'd never play my music that loud at home, the car (only during the day) is where I can do it! One of the pleasures of driving!!

DynamoKev · 09/04/2021 09:51

@ButIcantsitonleather

Human beings spending their own money on things that give them an amount of pleasure, that happen to be different to the things you like.
Its not just taste though. Stupidly loud exhausts are anti social.
BilboBercow · 09/04/2021 09:57

My ex drives a Subaru. Every time I hear the roaring engine I feel physically sick.

Mabelface · 09/04/2021 10:14

I live in the peak district near the a57, and any vaguely sunny day is marred by the sound of middle aged men in their souped up cars or over loud motorbikes, particularly over the last year. I hate it. I can't have my windows open nor sit in my gardendue to the noise. I'm autistic and find the noise pretty unbearable.

CovidCorvid · 09/04/2021 10:17

Someone in my village has a car which howls. Not sure if it’s the exhaust or the engine, but it’s been modded to do it. It’s a silly boy racer type. Different to the normal modded exhausts, sounds like a Vulcan bomber. I can hear it from the other side of the big village.

peak2021 · 09/04/2021 10:29

At least you know they have never satisfied another person in the bedroom.

The law should be changed on this, so they are not deemed roadworthy and the police can act. Maximum decibels are easy to measure.

Not much of a pleasure for anyone else who has to listen to it, especially when you are stuck at traffic lights going boom boom boom boom.

DynamoKev · 09/04/2021 10:53

@Elai1978

A lot of cars have pops and bangs from the factory, I’m thinking along the lines of Golf R and A45 AMG which just sound contrived and mapped in. A performance or classic car with a fruity exhaust which naturally crackles and pops on the overrun is joyous thing indeed. Even a screaming Honda VTEC 4-pot sounds good with a loud exhaust being pushed to 8/9k rpm. Loudest car I have currently is a BMW V10 with an aftermarket exhaust, sounds like Armageddon at full chat.
Those V10 BMWs sound awful - they sound like a coffee can of nails in a tumble dryer. A cunt had one in the flats I used to live in - revved on the way in and out of course (or is that factory fitted along with no off switch for the fog lights and the indicator delete?)
DynamoKev · 09/04/2021 10:55

I am surprised those German cars with backfire program even pass emissions - the backfire is unburnt petrol being ignited in the exhaust after all.

I think we have suitable laws already, but like illegal number plates and illegal tinted windows, they are hardly ever enforced.
Pyewackect · 09/04/2021 10:59

The current legal noise limit is 74 decibels, and it is it is illegal to modify a car's exhaust system to make it noisier than that.

85 decibels is the approximately the level of a domestic vacuum cleaner.

LunaHeather · 09/04/2021 11:18
@LunaHeather

So it's only those with modified exhausts that crash. Not people doing the school run who are distracted by screaming kids?
Nowhere in my post does it say "only these people crash". 🙄

Takesonetowriteone · 09/04/2021 13:31

@GoGoPowerScooter

All those posting who love their noisy cars - I hope you're proud of how much you freak out my autistic children. Your noise causes them actual pain. Fucking dicks, all of you.
🙄
FuckyouCovid21 · 09/04/2021 13:38

@LetSophieGo

I hear it a LOT when I visit my family in Chorley, Greater Manchester.

Lots in Lakes too but mostly passing through.

I once looked it up on reddit wondering it if was just me and everyone loved it. Apparently there are enthusiasts, which is fine, but christ it does tear your ears out.

I heard it was deliberate to imitate the sound of more expensive cars.
That's why I called it tragic, but then that makes me a snob - but if they would just STFU and not make everyone else suffer it, then all's fair.

Chorley isn't in Greater Manchester Confused
FooFighter99 · 09/04/2021 13:40

I had a few "boy racer" cars in my younger days Grin and with two petrol head older brothers, I loved driving at speed a "boosting" wannabees at traffic lights... (still do it now in my incredibly deceptively fast electric car)

I was, however, very considerate when driving home at night and always tried to keep my revs low so I didn't wake the neighbours!

We seem to have a large number of off-road bike owners where I live, who insist on blasting up and down our road (and the surrounding area) like the little knobheads they are! IMO they're infinitely worse than a car with a cherrybomb exhaust

Vickles20 · 09/04/2021 13:42

Arse wipes they are

Onlinedilema · 09/04/2021 13:55

I thought the cherrybom exhausts were illegal.
They sound bloody awful and are a noise pollutant.
Justifying it by saying well I don’t do X and Y is irrelevant.
I always think the drive is a complete tit.
We also had a spate of folks screeching around on off road quad bikes. Several serious accidents calmed it down for a bit.

Oh - I mean I listen to musicals or pop music. And drive country roads or motorway.

And just have a normal car audio system, not the crazy boot speakers.

I'm not a dick enough to want to draw attention at a set of lights! Or brave enough to do my normal singing along if people can see/hear.

Lucky to live quite rurally in that respect! (But still there are houses along some of the roads, hence why only in the daytime)

Elai1978 · 09/04/2021 15:41

I can only assume it was broken, it’s a great sounding engine. Was it an M5 or M6?

BillMasen · 09/04/2021 16:06

@LongDistanceClaret

Always men, nearly always young. Definitely with a level of inferiority complex which they are making up for with their loud exhaust.
Are you saying that to @DicklessWonder who posted just above you?
ChristmasFluff · 09/04/2021 16:13

I mean, to pay money to have your car sound like your exhaust is broken - yeah, you're clearly so stupid that considering that others will think your inconsiderate noise means you're a twat is way outside your cranial capacity.
