(Entirely light-hearted and for entertainment purposes only, couldn't actually care less and have no aspirations of posh!)

Inspired by the other posh thread, and FYI ferrero rocher are still posh enough to make me feel somewhat inadequate.

Also realised I missed off the co op and probably loads more!

MiddlesexGirl · 25/03/2021 23:37

Tesco is more posh than Sainsburys and Asda.

MiddlesexGirl · 25/03/2021 23:38

And Morrisons.

It should be Tesco Sainsburys Morrisons Asda.

Codswallop20 · 25/03/2021 23:39

@MiddlesexGirl

Tesco is more posh than Sainsburys and Asda.
Maybe that's because we have an old and grotty Tesco here!

I think of Lidl and Aldi as pretty much on a par with each other.

Camomila · 25/03/2021 23:40

I would put aldi and lidl in tier 2, iceland and farm foods in tier 1.

Next tier Asda and Morissons, then Sainsbury's and Tesco together.

Also need a farmers market/organic veg van tier

Bessica1970 · 25/03/2021 23:42

I would put Lidl above Iceland and Morrison’s below Asda Tesco, but it’s probably more to do with the area those shops are in for people rather than just the shops.
Coop down with Iceland

Hadjab · 25/03/2021 23:43

No way is Tesco above Sainsbury’s!

Thedogscollar · 25/03/2021 23:43

I'd say the top posh 4 for the vast majority are
1 Waitrose

  1. Sainsbury
3.Tesco 4.Morrisons Harrods and Fortnum & Masons are a whole different type of shop.
AnaCanDoOne · 25/03/2021 23:43

In my town Aldi and Lidl are full of shoppers and Tesco and Asda are full of shoplifters, so I'd adjust on that basis.

I've been to Harrods a few times but been too intimidated to go in Fortnum and Masons so I agree with you on that Grin.

Grenlei · 25/03/2021 23:43

Sainsburys is an interesting one.

When I was a kid it was definitely NOT posh, certainly not to my Nanna and all the other old ladies in Stepney who used to push their shopping prams down Watney Street to the local one...

I also used to shop there all the time as a student in Cambridge.

But in recent years the prices always seem on a par with Waitrose, and it feels they're going for a more 'select' market than Tescos, Morrisons etc.

Aldi and Lidl aren't posh per se but I do know a lot of very wealthy people who shop there in preference to Waitrose.

Asda and Morrisons are about on a par, Tesco slightly above.

Carishina · 25/03/2021 23:44

You need to add Whole Foods in there too. Level 6.5?

Bessica1970 · 25/03/2021 23:44

Camomila has it spot on

FelicityBeedle · 25/03/2021 23:44

Least posh to most posh
Heron foods/farm foods
Corner shop
Iceland
Aldi/Lidl
Asda/Morrison’s
Tesco
Sainsbury’s
Waitrose
M&S
Harris’s
Fort bum and mason

M&S above Waitrose purely because I’ve never heard of anyone regularly shopping there, it’s always for bits. Sainsbury’s poshest of the regular shops because it’s so bloody expensive

drinkplease · 25/03/2021 23:45

Marks and Spencer is posher than Waitrose
Lidl and Aldi together at 2
Iceland Asda (ours is grim) and farm foods at 1

Can't decide is sainsburys is posher than Tesco but it's definitely more expensive

FelicityBeedle · 25/03/2021 23:45

Coop is a funny one because it’s extortionate but normally more of a convenience shop

Ponoka7 · 25/03/2021 23:46

Iceland got rid of palm oil and do more recyclable packaging, as well as animal welfare and other ethical concerns than Asda. So although it's a freezer shop, it's wherever Asda is, or possibly above. But you won't see the posher people in there because Iceland have lots of delivery slots. Sainsbury's isn't what it was.

HunkyPunk · 25/03/2021 23:47

If you discount Fortnums and Harrods, the 'posh' food shops are Waitrose and M&S.

Grenlei · 25/03/2021 23:47

Tesco and Asda are full of shoplifters

So true! I used to work near a town centre Tescos, my office was in a street that ran alongside. Regularly used to look out of my window and see some local scumbag sprinting up the road carrying a case of lager/bottles of spirits etc with the security guard in hot pursuit.

Our local Asda is also well known for it.

starfishmummy · 25/03/2021 23:47

I think Lidl should be higher than Aldi.

And Morrisons down to at least level 3 or possibky even 2

PickAChew · 25/03/2021 23:48

Harrods is more "designer" than truly posh.

BoomTastic1 · 25/03/2021 23:48

Tesco and Asda are not the same. Tesco is posher but not as much as Sainsb's 😂

Xiaoxiong · 25/03/2021 23:48

Can I add Whole Foods above Waitrose but below Harrods and Fortnums. There's also Harvey Nicks food hall...Selfridges too...

DoubleTweenQueen · 25/03/2021 23:50

No way M&S is posher than Waitrose! M&S is complete aspirational middle class, whereas Waitrose is upper middle/gentry.

I'll get my coat Blush

Codswallop20 · 25/03/2021 23:51

Corner shops are really expensive so I can't add them for the purposes of my completely made up research, however I cannot really argue M&S v Waitrose because we haven't got a Waitrose. But I have read the 'overheard in Waitrose' threads and they seem quite posh Grin
