(Entirely light-hearted and for entertainment purposes only, couldn't actually care less and have no aspirations of posh!)

Inspired by the other posh thread, and FYI ferrero rocher are still posh enough to make me feel somewhat inadequate.

OP posts:

I fucking love Spar. And loved Kwik Save for that matter.

Slumming it dahling. Reminds me of my granny.

Superstardjs · 26/03/2021 00:21

Codswallop having spent 10 minutes browsing their fare, I can see why. I am impressed by their snazzy architecture too.

lboogy · 26/03/2021 00:23

I had no idea Sainsbury's was considered posh! I've shopped there for over 15 years and I'm defo not posh.

Though in making some lifestyle adjustments I shopped in Lidl and couldn't believe how much cheaper it is. It won't be a regular thing as I don't enjoy the bargain basement feel of the place. Can't find anything as there are no signs and no staff to help

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 26/03/2021 00:25

I would merge your group 1 and 2 together as value supermarkets. Then merge 3 and 4 together as regular supermarkets. I’d then merge 5 and 6 together as higher quality supermarkets.

selectabo · 26/03/2021 00:26

a tricky one between M&S and Waitrose.
Personally I can't stand M&S as I don't get a good vibe from all their excessive packaging and seemingly "perfect" looking food. I also read the very small print on labels and by far M&S have a lot of crap in their food. They have a good image, marketing etc and probably still cashing in on old posh. Waitrose on the other hand look and feel fresh and more authentic, more honest I guess. Fruit and veg taste better in my opinion and are fresher. Both consider posh but I think there are different type of posh also...

littlewhitestar · 26/03/2021 00:29

You can get Booths' products online from Amazon Fresh @Codswallop20

Actually, Amazon Fresh have 2 real life checkoutless supermarkets now, where you scan your phone at the entrance and sensors work out what you have taken off the shelf and charge you without even having to scan the item.

Anyone else find it truly terrifying that Amazon is now trying to take over the high street it helped destroy?

So where would they fit on the list?

selectabo · 26/03/2021 00:29

Sorry I should add that I am definitely NOT posh but mainly shop at Waitrose.

YouSingIt · 26/03/2021 00:35

I'd have Lidl above Aldi, Sainsbury's above Tesco, and Waitrose above M & S (Waitrose is for people who cook from scratch, M & S isn't, so that sorts those two). Booths above the lot.

namechange63524 · 26/03/2021 00:38

@PrincessPea11

I would swap tesco and Morrison's and put lidl and Aldi on a par. This would be above iceland and farm foods as although they are lower cost, the interesting ranges and good wines lend them.a certain cachet

ChelseeDagger · 26/03/2021 00:41

Well the man who delivers our waitrose order wears an apron.
The sainsbos guy wears a gilet.

I still poo to Heron for a bargain or two, so there's that.

IdblowJonSnow · 26/03/2021 00:44

Booths is so much posher than Waitrose OP!
Waitrose isn't actually posh, just overpriced. Booths is genuinely posh. (Although the cafe in the Ilkley branch is crap.)

Lalliella · 26/03/2021 00:44

Fort bum?

I still poo to Heron?

There’s some cracking typos on this thread 😂

thecatfromjapan · 26/03/2021 00:44

I'd put Tesco at the very, very bottom.

But I think it's probably local-area specific.

Our big local Tesco is hideous.

BehindMyEyes · 26/03/2021 00:50

Waitrose
M and S
Sainsburys
Tesco and Morrisons
Asda
Aldi
Lidl

jessstan2 · 26/03/2021 01:03

@Codswallop20

Also realised I missed off the co op and probably loads more!
Oh that is bad. The Co-op is marvellous!

I know nothing about 'posh', I buy from most places at different times. However Iceland apparently has some snob value, it was mentioned on another thread. We don't have Booths down my way.

As long as I can obtain what I want at the time, I don't care where I shop. I do it all online and ring the changes.

Terrylovesyogurt · 26/03/2021 01:03

Morrisons on a par with Asda, just above Aldi and Lidl. Tesco then Sainsburys next. M&S then Waitrose. Booths at the top. My secret love when holidaying in the Yorkshire Dales/Laake District.

Ocado sitting in there next to M&S too

Quaagars · 26/03/2021 01:04

Where do Herons and Fultons come on your list?
Love both them and feel they're going to be in Tier 1 and that's fine by me lol

Lessofallthisunpleasantness · 26/03/2021 01:04

Whatever happened to Netto? They still around? I live in South now so....... a different world.

Onestop? Level 1 and Level 6 it is crappy but they still sell champagne. I think it is my favourite shop. I think it is owned by Tesco now.

Absolutelyscunnered · 26/03/2021 01:04

@HunkyPunk

I think of Lidl and Aldi as pretty much on a par with each other.
That was my first thought
tywysoges · 26/03/2021 01:18

I used to do my weekly shop at M&S fairly often when I lived in SE England. It was my closest shop apart from Asda and I got discount vouchers fairly often, so it wasn’t that much more than going elsewhere. Hardly ever bought ready meals and hardly ever needed to go to other shops to buy what I needed. It was a standalone M&S Food shop though, not sure if they have more variety than the ones attached to normal M&S shops.

As for the ranking, I agree Aldi and Lidl are on par, though I prefer my local Lidl to Aldi. Never been to a booths but feel like that must be rectified Grin

CurseMyTinyThumbs · 26/03/2021 01:30

Netto was about minus 17 on the posh scale. Still get that sinking feeling any time I see a yellow packet of crisps.

FelicityBeedle · 26/03/2021 01:38

I live in the north west but a bit of a trek from booths. I recommend lakes holidays just as an excuse to go to booths, it’s lovely!

cerealgamechanger · 26/03/2021 01:42

Fort bum and mason

I need that shop in my life 😂

Tartyflette · 26/03/2021 01:45

I love the Co-op, it has really upped its game in recent years.
We used to have a tired old village shop which might sell some fly blown bananas, packets of rank bacon and stale biscuits.
The co-op took it over, did a massive revamp and it is amazing. It's still only small but it packs in incredible amounts. From Comté cheese to fresh limes via pulled ham hock terrine. Plus lovely pâtisserie, and decent wines and beers.
They're not so great for fresh meat or fish but for a small village shop they are invaluable and have increased trade at least 20-fold. I also like that members can nominate local organisations or charities, eg the village Cricket Club for support.
I've heard of Booths but you just don't seem to get them in the South at all.

BrintIg · 26/03/2021 01:48

Sainsbury's is definitely posher than Tesco in my area!

Never even heart of Fortnum and Masons
