(Entirely light-hearted and for entertainment purposes only, couldn't actually care less and have no aspirations of posh!)

Inspired by the other posh thread, and FYI ferrero rocher are still posh enough to make me feel somewhat inadequate.

@LemonRoses

Local shops aren’t on the list. Places like Goodwood farm shop and Sharphams are definitely nicer than supermarkets. Getting it from the farm down the road and through local ‘exchange of excess’ is best. We haven’t paid for eggs for years. We don’t buy much veg or fruit in summer/autumn and we grow our own pork.A local surgeon uses one pig to make sausages and cure hams that are shared around.. Lamb gets dropped off and the fish man brings locally caught fish and seafood around in his refrigerated van. Venison is road kill divided up by the surgeon if anyone drops off a carcass. Pheasant is freely available. Just need the local bakery, if you don’t make your own bread.

Marks and Spencer’s is mainly prepackaged items. Fortnum’s is nice for gifts. Rod’s is fun for a shop, when in town, but you’re not comparing like with like.

Booths isn’t available in the south, so less smart simply because of location; it’s fun for holidays and that’s their main market, isn’t it?

The rest is really down to the housekeepers choice and convenience.

If I haven't run it over accidentally, with permission from the land owners and their double barrelled wives and sons! Bloody inconvenient if you ask me. Grin

Always good to know quality of life could improve if one moved north. I married a northerner. His north in Yorkshire was gray, drab and poor. My southern home counties was green, bucolic, utter fun and very comfortable.

We moved from Oxfordshire to Cumbria. Both are bucolic and comfortable, with lovely villages and plenty of beautiful countryside. But Cumbria has more varied and dramatic countryside, more space, fewer people, much less traffic, cleaner air and cheaper house prices (unless you live in the Lake District national park).

It also lacks the constant spread of new housing which was gradually joining up the villages where we lived before, creating a massive sprawl with no space in between. And it has friendlier people, from my experience. And Booths, of course. The only downside is the weather!

Budgens?

Well, I don’t give a fuck whether it is posh or not. I normally shop in tesco, but some weeks will go to asda, or Markies. And for top up shops it’s lidl, co op or Iceland

8bitgame · 28/03/2021 09:58

Booths is much nicer than Waitrose.

I would put Iceland and Farmfoods together in tier one then Aldi and Lidli together in tier two. Morrison’s and Asda and then Tesco and Sainsbury’s but there’s not much between the four of them IMO

Booths and Waitrose together but acknowledging the superiority of Booths.

8bitgame · 28/03/2021 10:06

I’m howling at the poster who thinks Booths exists for Southerners on holiday than for us locals to do our weekly shop 😂😂🙄

Our local Waitrose has a sushi bar, wine bar and two cafes. It’s way posher than M&S food store in our small provincial city. Posher than both of them are the many farm shops.
Waitrose is far more shopper friendly. To be fair our local Tesco’s is pretty good, but I think that has more to do with the demographic it caters to. The one in the next town is the pits.
