School uniform yucky colours

Please can I ask for your views? At a regular state primary school what are the most horrid colours for school sweatshirts? What are the best? What do you/your children like?

From the normal range of primary school colours - blue, red, navy, yellow, dark green, bright green, purple, light grey.

Thanks - most interested in your LEAST favourite.

I've never had much issue with white polos getting dirty; they're under a jumper, so they stay fairly clean.
And in summer? Confused

I really don't like yellow or green, or things like yellow polo shirts with blue jumpers. Dd's primary school had navy sweatshirts and either navy or grey pinafores/skirts/trousers and white polo shirts which looked really smart, and then they changed it to purple sweatshirts the year after she left, with grey pinafores/skirts/trousers and it still looks lovely.

White polos never bothered me much either
They wash up well and are reasonably inexpensive from supermarkets
What bothered me was the uniform that had to have the logo on or only came from a particular supplier - usually expensive and a pain to replace

Glad my primary school colour isn't there. Brown! We were known as the poo school

White shirts are brilliant. You can bleach them!

Two things wrong with that. Firstly, most have coloured logo’s so bleaching is out. My kids have never not had a logo on their white shirts or shirts nothing like a coloured band around the neck/arms/pockets.

Secondly, even if plain white then treating is still an extra step whether that be bleaching, spit treating, soaking. So it’s working on the assumption that parents have time for this or they are so deprived for meaningful activities in their lives that they will find this fulfilling. I call bullshit on both assumptions. No one wants to deal with this crap in preference to normal colours you can bung in a normal load without the faffing around.

*spot treating

HoppingPavlova · 12/03/2021 22:11

Although I do wish to spit on them...... bastarding things.

Yellow and green and brown look really horrible on most white people. Make them look ill. Redheads can do green and some people of colour can do yellow. But I think you have to go for colours that look best on the widest range of complexions and are also practical, and that means royal blue or navy blue, purple, or maroon.

Pinkfreesias · 12/03/2021 22:41

Brown and purple. Who on earth thought to use these colours for school uniforms!

They were my dad’s school colours. He still had his scarf when I was a child “chocolate and magenta”.

@Honeydukesmum

I always wanted the home and away/neighbours uniform 😂
Ha ha me too!!
HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 12/03/2021 23:43

Mine as a child was a burgundy or possibly maroon sweater or cardigan and a grey or black pinafore dress skirt or trousers with long or ankle length white socks. Summer dress was a pink and white gingham style or pinstripe dress or the same again but in red. I was always so jealous of the other kids that had nicer coloured winter uniforms. Secondary school was a grey sweater with white top underneath it. If you wore a shirt it had to have a tie with it so most of us just wore a tee shirt instead. Then it was just black or grey trouser or skirts for the girls and trousers or shorts for the boys. If you wore white socks then you had the piss ripped out of you. As for the gym kit don't get me going on that one!! It's got to have been a guy who invented a tiny little gym skirt and skimpy little gym knickers

@HopingForOurRainbowBaby @Honeydukesmum a school in Exeter did adopt the Home and Away uniform!
