School uniform yucky colours

Please can I ask for your views? At a regular state primary school what are the most horrid colours for school sweatshirts? What are the best? What do you/your children like?

From the normal range of primary school colours - blue, red, navy, yellow, dark green, bright green, purple, light grey.

Thanks - most interested in your LEAST favourite.

@Poundaminute

The worst I have seen was a catholic primary school with brown trousers / skirts and yellow tops with brown jumpers 😬 Ks2 wear white shirts with brown and yellow ties.
That could be my primary school you're talking about there. We had a brown and yellow striped tie as well though, so it probably isn't. It was not a nice uniform. The school was good though (I assume it still is)
onemouseplace · 11/03/2021 19:23

Blue, red, navy good.

No to yellow and especially purple. I really, really dislike purple.

itsgettingwierd · 11/03/2021 19:23

Totally agree with above poster about white polos being the dumbest idea ever!

I don't have any colours I think are horrid but I don't particularly think brown/yellow is the nicest colour combination for children.

Purely because it reminds me of the brownies uniform and I've never liked it for that either!

I'd prefer navy t shirt with royal jumper or vice versa.

Or navy polo and maroon jumper or vice versa.

Red/green are nice combinations.

I also have an issue with secondary uniform of shirt, tie and blazer and don't buy into the bollocks of image and achievement. 6 secondary schools near and and the 2 the perform best year in year wear polo and jumper and the 2 who get worse year in year are obsessed with uniform and image. I often wonder what would happen if they focussed more on teaching and learning?!

CreamRose · 11/03/2021 19:23

I hate purple uniforms. it screams trying to emulate private schools to me. Navy tends to look best I think. I wouldn’t choose a school based on uniform but all else being equal I would. I hate ugly uniforms!

Rillington · 11/03/2021 19:23

Our primary school was maroon. It's a nice colour and the jumpers didn't fade.

I like purple the best.

SplendidSuns1000 · 11/03/2021 19:23

Yellow. Every bit of food dropped on it leaves a murky brown colour. DNiece has to wear a grey jumper with a grey skirt and grey tights/socks and it looks so miserable. Happy laughing children all wearing entirely grey outfits.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/03/2021 19:23

My kids' school has bright red polo shirts and dark green sweatshirts. I like it, it's cheery. Plus it suits their colouring.

FiveGs · 11/03/2021 19:23

Mine was maroon and grey with yellow and maroon sports kit.

Not sure you could beat that combo really.

CoffeeRunner · 11/03/2021 19:24

The worst is brown as mentioned above. Chocolate brown skirt/trousers, yellow polo shirt & brown jumpers..

DDs uniform is navy jumper/cardigan with grey trousers/skirt & a pale blue polo shirt. Most schools here are either red or some shade of blue.

I like the look of the purple or bright green uniforms best. I also love yellow but see how it could get very old looking very quickly.

piglet81 · 11/03/2021 19:24

Yellow is horrible. My son’s school has navy or light grey sweatshirts. He prefers the grey but they get filthy on a daily basis (he’s only Y1, to be fair).

NDSandG · 11/03/2021 19:24

My senior uniform was brown jumper with gold stripe around v neck, brown skirt and tie with gold shirt. This was in Ireland and a convent school. Was quite surprised when I came across similar in a local London school.

PalmLady · 11/03/2021 19:25

No pale colours like yellow or white - too easy to stain.
Black trousers / skirts work best. Navy can be hard to find in a range of sizes.

BakewellGin1 · 11/03/2021 19:25

My DS school changed from red to purple (quality street purple) with grey trousers/skirt.. At first we hated the idea but actually looked lovely...

I imagine Dark Green would be lovely and I like Royal Blue

Least favourites are Yellow, Turqouise Blue, Brown

Whatnameisgood · 11/03/2021 19:25

Anything pale, particularly yellow, is a terrible idea. Will look awful after a few washes

Red and green must never be seen!
itsgettingwierd · 11/03/2021 19:26

Cream I was raised as it being blue and green!

CreamRose · 11/03/2021 19:26

I could be wrong but I’m sure it’s red and green! Wasn’t that why Freddie Krueger wore a red and green jumper!

GloGirl · 11/03/2021 19:27

Yellow, it would almost put me off sending a child there.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 11/03/2021 19:27

So far my children have had..
White polos with blue jumpers
White or red polos, red jumpers
Pale blue polos with navy jumpers.

The navy fades quickly. The red and blue jumpers looked like new still at the end of the year colour wise
The pale blue polo shirts wash better.

(I had purple uniform... Quite liked it. The brown and yellow school were called rotten bananas).

I'd recommend not hanging around my kids school then Grin
MadeForThis · 11/03/2021 19:28

Navy and red look good together.

DinkyYorkie · 11/03/2021 19:29

Yellow is a horrible colour for clothing. Never looks clean.
I don't like green clothing either. Dark green I find dull and depressing. Bright green is cheap and nasty looking, reminiscent of cheap fake grass.

CreamRose · 11/03/2021 19:29

ooh I was right!

Honeydukesmum · 11/03/2021 19:29

I always wanted the home and away/neighbours uniform 😂

FoxyTheFox · 11/03/2021 19:31

I wish schools would do away with shirts, ties, dress trousers, etc and instead have joggers and a hoodie/sweatshirt (t-shirt in summer) in the school colours with plain/no logo black trainers. It's comfortable, practical for all tasks and activities, and is more accommodating for children with disabilities - for example, uniform really tweaks DS' sensory issues (autism) and joint laxity and coordination problems make all the buttons on shirts, fastening a tie, fastening laces, etc next to impossible.
