To ask nursery to cut their grapes into quarters?

So, DD14m attends nursery.

They give fruit snacks out each day.

They cut grapes in half lengthwise. (I know this for gross reasons 😷)

I tend to do quarters for safety, as per advice.

AIBU to ask them to cut the grapes into quarters??? Or am I being precious 🥺😳

I thought it only had to be in half. Although I would also quarter at home

I thought halves (lengthwise) was fine? And would expect common sense to be used over size of grape/tininess of child as to whether to cut into smaller chunks.

If your lo is particularly diddly, just ask if they'd mind, to put your mind at ease. (And present it as putting your mind at ease rather than accidentally implying they don't know how to be safe.)

Yep I buy grapes but the baby doesn’t get any.

Just request she doesn't have grapes.

Please DON'T lie and say she's allergic though, it just makes life harder for children with genuine allergies.

Unless they eat in high chairs, requesting that your child doesn't have grapes might not help...in my childs nursery they eat around tiny little shared tables and they all pick up each others food (even when one of them has spat it out or dropped it etc)

I'd prefer quarters too. If it got lodged at an angle it would be a disaster.
I never gave the DC grapes.

TBH this is a cracking way to build up an immune system.

Anyway halves are fine, although my DC's nursery didn't do grapes full stop just in case.

And for those thinking they're precious - my kids are 5 and 8 and I still cut up their grapes

Depends how old the grapes are

@minniemango when you’ve got 12 toddles in a room, they’re going to pick up and eat all sorts of grossness - they’re children!

In my nursery the kids would eat each other’s half sucked rice cakes, pick up each other’s bottles and every toy goes in and out of their mouths constantly - it’s how they explore the world and build their immune system.

I'd hope that nurseries were a bit more enthusiastic about stopping children from eating each other's food. If one reacted to something, how would they know what it was? And how can they possibly cope with allergies?

I'd ask if it makes you more comfortable. Although I'd probably have told them the dc is allergic to grapesMy son is almost 5 and he's never tasted one.
