To ask nursery to cut their grapes into quarters?

So, DD14m attends nursery.

They give fruit snacks out each day.

They cut grapes in half lengthwise. (I know this for gross reasons 😷)

I tend to do quarters for safety, as per advice.

AIBU to ask them to cut the grapes into quarters??? Or am I being precious 🥺😳

@Wheresthebeach

Please don’t make up allergies - those of us with genuine allergies have a hard enough time getting them taken seriously without people using fake allergies as an excuse.

If you’re worried you should say something. Choking is terrifying and grapes are hard to dislodge.

This. It's so hard to get allergies to be taken seriously. Every person that makes up an allergy makes this a thousand times harder.

I would be v worried about this and would ask for the grapes to be cut smaller. I am quite shocked that a nursery would not be cutting them smaller particular as the risk from grapes is so well documented.

My DD (now 10) used to cram food into her mouth and I had to keep a v close eye on her and always cut grape v small. I am slightly paranoid about grapes even now 😬

At one stage Costa used to do a babyccino with a full sized marshmallow on top! It used to really worry me because marshmallows are a serious choking risk and a child locally died in a restaurant after choking on one.

What an uninformed post.

I'm pretty sure I cut them the wrong way when my kids were small, I just remember being told to cut grapes in half. if you understand the reason why they need to be cut longways it makes more sense. I agree about encouraging mindful eating and chewing properly for adults,far more sensible - except for people who can't chew well eg dementia/ disabilities.

@Oblomov21 I don't think it's common but yes, this baby died from choking on mash

@JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows

And for those thinking they're precious - my kids are 5 and 8 and I still cut up their grapes Grin
😁 me too and mine are the same age. I was in pieces when I was told popcorn is also a massive chocking hazard.

My late mom used to always cut up grapes in quarters when she looked after my toddlers many years ago .. it's common sense .. it really doesn't take much extra time to cut a grape into quarters if they are cutting them in half anyway ... I'd ask them to do it

I work in a school kitchen. My workmate was once making us a plate of fruit. Dutifully cutting the grapes in half. For 3 grown ass women.
