To not clean my shower ever day after use?

Staying with family right now as our house is being half knocked down.... we don’t clean our shower after every use... today I had a right telling off and was told we were dirty as we don’t clean it after every use.... who has time for this? The family who we are living with are retired... maybe they do?

Do you clean your shower after every use?

I don’t clean as such but I make sure that the shower is presentable for the next person using it. I rinse off any soap, make sure there is no stray hair. It’s only DH & I in the en-suite but it always feels clean when I use it.

The DCs use the family bathroom. They also do the same.

We give the shower & bath a proper brush & products clean once a week.

KittyVonCatsworth · 15/02/2021 21:30

Do I fuck. If I've shaved my legs/underarms I'll give it a squoosh over with the shower attachment but the screen itself can be proper scummy for a week or more before I'll even give it a go. Granted, I am a not a domestic goddess and it has been known for me to not change my sheets or towels for 2 weeks or not put clean pyjamas on for 3-4 days.

Oysterbabe · 15/02/2021 21:31

God no. My cleaner does it weekly.

Sheepareawesome · 15/02/2021 21:32

Hell no! The water cleans it well enough. I mean, I check the plug hole isn't blocked and try not to leave pubes on the tiles but otherwise it gets cleaned when we notice the pink mould!

Poppins17 · 15/02/2021 21:32

I should just say we aren’t sharing a bathroom with family - they have their own - it’s only us using it and whilst I feel we’re respectful it’s their house, we are cleaning to our current standards.. not theirs.

Do I fuck.

Same sentiment here 😂

legalseagull · 15/02/2021 21:32

What do they expect you to do?

How strange. Rinse away any leg hair is about it! Once a week clean (if I'm lucky Grin)

MyAnacondaMight · 15/02/2021 21:33

What do you mean by “clean”? I don’t use products or a wiper blade day to day, but always rinse off any soap and clean out hair from the drain.

MistleTOEboughski · 15/02/2021 21:33

I do a quick rinse and remove hairs plus I sometimes have a cleaning spray that you just spray and leave.

Chunkymenrock · 15/02/2021 21:33

A rinse down and leave bathroom all tidy and a proper clean once a week or so is ample.

Bettina500 · 15/02/2021 21:34

How much cleaning are they expecting? Mine is a large shower cubicle and I always use the shower head to rinse all the glass down and swill the tray out when I've finished. I sometimes spray the glass with no rinse shower cleaner (if we have some) but it doesn't really do anything.
I don't actually clean and scrub it with bathroom cleaner after each use.

WisestIsShe · 15/02/2021 21:35

I squeegee down after every shower but only because I live in a very hard water area. Clean it once a week.

Poppins17 · 15/02/2021 21:35

Ok great - glad you don’t all think I’m dirty - I don’t think I am, but I know I have lower standards to the family we are living with.... they expect it cleaned every day..

OP posts:
Needsmustnow · 15/02/2021 21:36

Yes, every day. I live in a hard water area though.

Nighthawker · 15/02/2021 21:36

I spray mine down with the daily shower spray and leave stuff every time I use it, proper clean once a week. I know people who squeegee or window vac up all the water after every use but I haven't got time for that in the work morning rush.

TatianaBis · 15/02/2021 21:38

I rinse it out every time I use it but I don't clean it every day. I don't clean it ever to be fair, the cleaner does that. I hate cleaning.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 15/02/2021 21:39

Yes, we do it daily.

Quick spray on the shower, screen and windows, leave for a minute or two, then rinse.

hazandduck · 15/02/2021 21:40

I wipe it down after every shower with the squidgee thing. I just hate the drips! It takes a second to do and saves having to proper scrub the marks off the screen and tiles. Properly clean it probably once a week? We have such hard water it really marks everything. Drives me nuts. The bath is a daily wash round due to having two little grubblets in it every night 😂

It seems odd that they’ve commented on you not cleaning it, I mean if you left gross skid marks in the family toilet or something I’d understand but this seems a bit extreme!

Poppins17 · 15/02/2021 21:40

Sorry, by clean they mean rubbing the stainless steel shower unit and taps until you can see your face and spray clean the shower screen then wipe it with a wiper and then dry it all and rub it up with a cloth

Nope but you have to go by the house rules if the people who are letting you stay

Emeraldshamrock · 15/02/2021 21:43

I don't clean my own after every use. I would rinse & clear any toiletries as a guest I'd leave it as I found it.

CherryBlossomTree7 · 15/02/2021 21:44

We squeege and shower shine spray after everyone has finished in the shower for that morning/evening, so the last person in each morning or evening does the squeege and spray. Takes thirty seconds and makes the shower look amazing, no streaks. Proper clean once a week.

If your in laws are doing this thirty second clean, you're being very unreasonable to not do it too. They're letting you stay with them and if you can't do that, you shouldn't be living there.

SocialDistanced · 15/02/2021 21:45

Actually could it be because of the area where they live?

I once stayed over with a friend up north and her mum cleaned the shower over bath every day. It was due to the hard water like a previous poster said.

CherryBlossomTree7 · 15/02/2021 21:46

Just read your update. To be honest, you could still do that in two minutes. Squeegee and spray and just wipe it all for a minute. You're living in their house and a two minute clean morning and evening (if you even shower that much) is not a major task.

Oly4 · 15/02/2021 21:46

Nope, not a hope in hell. My cleaner does it once a week..plenty
