To not clean my shower ever day after use?

Staying with family right now as our house is being half knocked down.... we don’t clean our shower after every use... today I had a right telling off and was told we were dirty as we don’t clean it after every use.... who has time for this? The family who we are living with are retired... maybe they do?

Do you clean your shower after every use?

Rude AF for them to say that, frankly.

BertieBotts · 15/02/2021 22:35

I do it to that standard about once every three years Blush

badacorn · 15/02/2021 22:36

Yes but in my defence it’s a quick easy job when there’s no build up. If I don’t do it daily i seem to put it off for too long.

BertieBotts · 15/02/2021 22:37

We live in a very hard water area. It's too much faff to keep on top of it constantly. It doesn't have any effect except that the bath taps aren't shiny Confused if my guests are judging me for having an un-shiny tap then they can judge away.

I would rather focus my cleaning efforts where it has a hygienic effect like kitchen counters, loo, floors, sinks etc. Can't get worked up about some limescale on a tap FFS!

Pebbledashery · 15/02/2021 22:37

I clean my shower every day.. I'm quite obsessive with cleaning though.

BrilliantBetty · 15/02/2021 22:39

Yes I wipe the excess water off the shower glass daily. And from the shower tap thing. It builds up very quickly if you don't and then becomes a bit of a pain to rectify. Just quicker to do it there and then, takes 1min.

zeddybrek · 15/02/2021 22:44

I squeegee down the glass, walls, floor after each use. It's a shower cubicle in an en suite. I also have a cloth ready to wipe water off the taps and handheld shower. Takes about a minute (wide squeegee) and means it always looks shiny and clean and only use products and scrub once every 2 to 3 weeks. Cheaper and easier and shower always looks presentable with no water marks.

I'm not super clean but started to do this as en suite has no window and we had to remove as much water as possible to prevent other issues.

Toomuchleopard · 15/02/2021 22:45

After reading this I’m really glad I live in a soft water area. Limescale sounds like a complete pita

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 15/02/2021 22:51

I used to be a domestic cleaner and was meticulous about my clients' showers. I scrubbed and descaled the buggers from top to bottom.

My own shower? Nah 😁 Get rid of any hair, quick spray down of the glass/wall, scrape the glass down with a window scraper if I'm feeling fancy, and that's it.

I'll deep clean it every so often, but life's too bloody short to faff about with that daily.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 15/02/2021 22:56

@Poppins17

Sorry, by clean they mean rubbing the stainless steel shower unit and taps until you can see your face and spray clean the shower screen then wipe it with a wiper and then dry it all and rub it up with a cloth
🤣🤣. Wouldn't even be doing that once a week!

I do have a water softener which helps, but even bite that I'd clean it & squeegee it once a week (well 5-7 days) but not dry it if wuth a cloth.

I have family who squeegee it after every shower or if several people showering the last one dies it, so I do - out of respect, but they know I think it's a faff, so they usually go in last 🤣

I have other family who don't appear to know showers need cleaning 🤣

But that faff, your relative are batshit thinking it needs to be done every time!

If you have some use if it, are they checking up in you daily?

How much longer do you need to live there for?

Emeraldshamrock · 15/02/2021 23:11

It is tough when someone suggests you can rely on and then treat you like a problem.
Family relations will not be good if they keep it up.

Iggly · 15/02/2021 23:14

I do but I’m the only one who does. DH may use the squeegee. Makes it easier and looks nicer!

hazandduck · 16/02/2021 00:45

@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants DH tried to convince me to get a water softener a couple of years ago when we renovated (he’s a plumber.) I said it would be a waste of space and money! Eating my bloody words now 😒

RunningFromInsanity · 16/02/2021 00:52

I don’t even own a squeegee.

I’ll spray down the glass when I’m in the shower to get any bubbles off and spray round the tray if I’ve shaved my legs etc but that’s pretty much all I’ve ever done in terms of cleaning Blush

People actually spray a product on and scrub the glass? Inside and outside?

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 16/02/2021 01:09

Spray ours with shower spray after every use And fully clean couple times a week, but leave clean after use anyway.
But anyway if staying with someone else you follow their rules even if different to your own.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 16/02/2021 01:14

Maybe they know of left or marks easier , my kitchen sink is horrendous old one , I would wipe every couple days , new one I wipe couple times a day as water marks really easily.
My mum is a fussy cleaner and if we stay there I know she has higher standards than me so i follow them as its her house not mine,

TrickorTreacle · 16/02/2021 01:22

@sunflowersandbuttercups

Yes, we do it daily.

Quick spray on the shower, screen and windows, leave for a minute or two, then rinse.

I do all of of my weekly cleaning (no cleaner here) and I enjoy doing it, but the bath/shower is the one thing I don't enjoy. It's because it takes so long!

A few of you here mentioned a spray which you can let to stand and then rinse it off later. What sprays are you all using? Just so I can get some examples.

For the humans hairs, I find those plastic plug hole blockers handy. It lets the water through but traps the hairs which you can clean off afterwards.

IKnowIknow89 · 16/02/2021 01:43

Yes we do!! The bathroom gets cleaned every day. Tiles. The lot.

WhenPushComesToShove · 16/02/2021 01:55

Yes spray all round with water after use and dry off with cloth. Takes 2 minutes and always looks fab

FlyingByTheSeatof · 16/02/2021 02:36

My DM literally hangs outside her shower room with a cloth and squeege to clean it after anyone uses it. She knows she's a bit OCD plus she doesn't think anyone can clean as well as her so wouldnt even want anyone else to do it, so doesnt ask or expect. She also wants eveyone to have showered asap in the mornings so she can clean it.

Whereas I'm no domestic goddess. I've used a post shower spray in the past but I'm quite slack when it comes to cleaning my own home since having DC.

Poppins17 · 16/02/2021 08:26

Well I’ve showered and cleaned this morning... we’ll see what’s said today #showergate

Cadent · 16/02/2021 08:46

We live in a hard water area so we squeegee the shower screen after every shower. If we don’t, it looks terrible.

You should squeegee the screen hut full on clean of the walls after every shower is a bit much.

Are you contributing to cleaning/cooking/shopping? They might just be getting fed up? Houseguests are a bit much after 2/3 days.

JoMoJaney · 16/02/2021 08:55

Clean the shower after every use, no definitely not. Who on earth does that?! I mean, leave it presentable for the next person yeah sure, get your cleaning products out after every time someone's been in it - way excessive. I think you'd have to have cleaning ocd to to that! Once a week is quite sufficient.

Poppins17 · 16/02/2021 09:04

We’re doing our own cooking - they have their main meal at lunch time and we have ours on the evening - we clean up after every meal and ensure everything is put away and clean and tidy. We’re buying extra treats like cakes and puddings which they eat regularly (we wouldn’t normally buy them) and a takeaway each weekend for everyone... we have been here 3 weeks and will probably be here another 3 possibly...

AlwaysLatte · 16/02/2021 09:08

I don't scrub it every day (once a week) but I do use Method shower spray every day.
