To not clean my shower ever day after use?

Staying with family right now as our house is being half knocked down.... we don’t clean our shower after every use... today I had a right telling off and was told we were dirty as we don’t clean it after every use.... who has time for this? The family who we are living with are retired... maybe they do?

Do you clean your shower after every use?

No hard water I think they just have really high standards... we’re trying to be very respectful and clean and tidy up immediately after doing anything, and since we are the only ones using this bathroom have been following the same weekly routine as at home... but will now have to start doing it daily so it doesn’t become #showergate

@Poppins17

Sorry, by clean they mean rubbing the stainless steel shower unit and taps until you can see your face and spray clean the shower screen then wipe it with a wiper and then dry it all and rub it up with a cloth
Fuck that, I don't live on a superyacht.
Emeraldshamrock · 15/02/2021 21:49

It is a guest bathroom? If they aren't using the bathroom it shouldn't matter.
It sounds like they're unhappy with the living arrangement while your house is being sorted is it a renovation or repair? Did they offer? They are probably set in the way with the cleaning.

crazycatgal · 15/02/2021 21:49

No way! I have to get to work, I don't have time to give the shower a proper clean everyday.

Emeraldshamrock · 15/02/2021 21:51

It is a bit of a nightmare. Hopefully you're not there long.

Poppins17 · 15/02/2021 21:52

It was pre-agreed and they offered for us to stay here... I think even though we are close, living in such close proximity given the current situation is hard. Both myself and my husband have demanding jobs etc too - no excuses but in the week deep cleaning anything isn’t high on our list of priorities- that’s what the weekend is for...

They need some hobbies, obviously. Seriously, who has the time, inclination or energy for this? Once a week in my house.
coronafiona · 15/02/2021 21:55

I wipe the water off the glass but it's a hard water area and it would ruin it if I left it

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 15/02/2021 21:56

Is it a guest en suite you are using? If so how on earth do they know if you clean it or not? Do you have to stand by your beds while they do a daily inspection?. I have high standards cleaning wise but when I have guests it’s up to them If wish to clean the guest en suite or not, I really don’t care as I would always do a thorough clean when they left, the people you are staying with sound very strange.

GranaryBread47 · 15/02/2021 21:58

Even when I lived with just DH, not working with all the time in the world I wasn't cleaning the shower after every bloody use! Using cleaning products on it won't be doing it any good! And wiping down the glass is completely unnecessary, it's only for aesthetic purposes. I clean ours once a week with proper cleaner and clothes but otherwise just rinse and squeegee the tiles and glass after each shower.

Poppins17 · 15/02/2021 22:00

It’s a dorma bungalow, so the downstairs bathroom and bedroom we are staying in and the upstairs bedroom and en-suite they are using (which is normal for them) - they have been in the bathroom when the door has been left open whilst walking into the lounge... I don’t think they are necessarily inspecting it, but now I’m writing that, it must be what they are doing Blush

No chance. Shower gets cleaned once a week!

PrtScn · 15/02/2021 22:01

Depends what state the shower is in. It’s a bug bear of mine as OH is a hairy git (think gorilla) and never cleans the shower after he uses it so whenever I have a shower, or the toddler has a bath I have to clean it of his hair. It’s everywhere and even gets caught in the suckers on the bathmat etc and we have to use one of those things that go in the plug hole to collect hairs or he blocks the shower up. He rarely cleans that out either, so when that gets blocked I dump it on his bar of soap. He never mentions it to me as I think he knows he’ll get an earful about it. It wouldn’t even take 30 seconds to hose down the bath and empty the plug thingy either. At least he now cleans his shit off the toilet the majority of the time. If it wasn’t for the toddler I’d have booted his slovenly arse out by now.

EveningOverRooftops · 15/02/2021 22:04

Fuck that OP. I have a leave on eco shower cleaner. I spray that after I’m done then it’s rinsed off before I shower again. It gets a proper clean weekly and in between if it’s needed. I don’t have time for show home clean.

TheCrowening · 15/02/2021 22:06

I rinse it and squeegee/spray it with a shower cleaner but I don’t scrub it every time.

Merryoldgoat · 15/02/2021 22:13

Who are they to you? I’d never expect guests to clean like that. Keep tidy, clean once a week, share the cooking. Nothing else.

AngryPrincess · 15/02/2021 22:13

I don’t. But it might be worth it to keep the peace.

Merryoldgoat · 15/02/2021 22:13

If it’s in-laws get your DH to talk to them if you don’t want to.

ChronicallyCurious · 15/02/2021 22:15

I spray the bath/en-suite shower with cleaner after every use but I only clean the stainless steel and the glass shower screens in a deep clean once a week.

Turin · 15/02/2021 22:20

Yes I do. If I don’t, I worry about soapscum tormenting me for years to come Grin

After my shower while still in there I spray, scour, rinse. Wash myself and finish. Then dry the glass and shower unit.

Takes about 2 minutes but worth it for a gleaming shower!

justasking111 · 15/02/2021 22:24

Just shocked they are checking out your shower room, do they check your sheets too??

Marinaloves · 15/02/2021 22:24

That’s batshit

Want2beme · 15/02/2021 22:29

If I had a shower screen I'd wipe it down everyday. I rinse down the shower and curtain and wipe down the controls everyday. It gets a thorough clean once a week.

MyLittleOrangutan · 15/02/2021 22:30

Our shower is in our bath. I rinse any hair or suds away if I'm staying at someone elses or have guests. But usually DH and I just wash the bath if we have a bath and every so often wash the metal bits. I use soap every time I'm in it so it's hardly dirty.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 15/02/2021 22:33

I do clean it every day. If you do, it takes much less time than having to scrub once or twice a week.
