To not clean my shower ever day after use?

Poppins17 · 15/02/2021 21:24

Staying with family right now as our house is being half knocked down.... we don’t clean our shower after every use... today I had a right telling off and was told we were dirty as we don’t clean it after every use.... who has time for this? The family who we are living with are retired... maybe they do?

Do you clean your shower after every use?

No (I wish I did, then it might look nicer!) just hairs, any dirt can rinse off but as someone said if you're staying in their house it has to be done (but they could have been nicer telling you)

polkadotpjs · 16/02/2021 09:33

I cannot clean my shower cubicle. Curbed walls are hard to squeegee and it never seems clean whatever I use. Those who get it gleaming- how?? How? I wish we didn't have a cubicle

Cadent · 16/02/2021 09:41

Sounds like you are quite good houseguests, OP.

What are they like when they stay with you? I’d remember their stringent requirements when they stay with you in your place!

Cadent · 16/02/2021 09:44

@polkadotpjs

What is the issue, is it mildew? That needs mildew spray.

For cleaning, I tend to spray the CIF foam everywhere and then scrub with a bathroom sponge. But we don’t do it every day, more like every 2 weeks.

Pukkatea · 16/02/2021 09:50

I don't, but I really should, the water is so hard that the screen is chalky after a couple of days.

DinosApple · 16/02/2021 09:55

I use that daily shower spray that you don't have to rinse or rub off. It's a hard water area and the shower looks great.

DinosApple · 16/02/2021 09:56

The daily shower spray is 80p in Tescos OP - it might safe you some time. The shower has to be clean and not lime scaly to start with though.

Mammyloveswine · 16/02/2021 10:16

My dad has a fucking squeedgie thing in his shower and used to moan like fuck if I didn't use it!!

He bought me one too...it's been used about 3 times as I just use the shower spray after! And when I deep clean it weekly I use microfibre clothes to clean my glass!

HelenUrth · 16/02/2021 10:29

Interesting that you are the one that had words said to, but I get the impression it's your DPs family as you'd probably say if your own. Did your DP get a rap on the knuckles too or is this a sexist thing that it should be your job?

It certainly sounds uncomfortable to be under the microscope like that and if it is your DPs family I'd be asking my DP to deal with it.

By the way, I couldn't be arsed with a squeegee etc every day, but when in the shower I rub the glass with whatever shower gel I'm using, spreading it around with a stiff plastic bag (read it online somewhere), then rinse off. The glass always dries very clean, that said I'm not in a hard water area. May be a useful tip for you.

Enitere bathroom gets bleached and scrubbed to within an inch of its life every day. I know because I’m the one who does it. Family of 5

GirlInterruptedAgain · 16/02/2021 10:52

For super gleaming shower use FAIRY LIQUID.

Cadent · 16/02/2021 10:54

@GirlInterruptedAgain you have my sympathies. That's no life.

PhillipPhillop · 16/02/2021 11:12

As long as it's left in pristine condition after you eventually leave I can't see the problem. And also that it's not seen as solely your job to do it!

AuntyMabelandPippin · 16/02/2021 11:26

I'd be annoyed at them invading my personal space. I don't go into my spare bedrooms when guests are staying, (is that ever going to happen again...) as I think that's rude.

As to the bathroom, unless you live in a hard water area, a scoosh with the shower spray should be fine.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 16/02/2021 14:16

The reality is if you want to stay at someone else's cheap then you follow their rules , alternatively you get a hotel or stay elsewhere.
What we all do in our own homes is one thing, when staying at someone else's you do as they ask or don't stay there its quite simple.

PigletJohn · 16/02/2021 16:12

Water softener makes the difference. You can squirt the shower at the walls and taps and it runs off leaving them bright.

If you get greasy deposits, you can rub them with WUL on a sponge then hose off. Same as cleaning the bath.

Shaving foam, for some reason, needs a proper bathroom spray.

Hard water is a great trial.

Serin · 16/02/2021 16:24

I wipe it down after every use, sadly the rest of the family never bother.

justasking111 · 16/02/2021 19:16

Exactly, it is depressing and we live in a soft water area. I do sink and loo two or three times a week, but the bath, shower screen, once a week.
KirstenBlest · 16/02/2021 19:19

I'm the least houseproud person in the world and live alone, but I always clean the shower after I've used it.

polkadotpjs · 16/02/2021 19:54

@Cadent glass doesn't seem sparkling with water marks even after scrubbing with bathroom cleaner and the tiles get pink in between. I cleaned it (scrubbed with toothbrush in between tiles with bleach plus scrubbed everywhere else with flash bathroom) and it doesn't look as good as when we had a cleaner. She was magical
Do I need to dry with a clean microfibre cloth after ? Buff?

Wingedharpy · 16/02/2021 19:57

'Fraid I do OP.
But, as others have said, we live in a very hard water area.

FangsForTheMemory · 16/02/2021 20:00

I was lodging in someone else's house for a few months recently and I cleaned the shower properly twice a week, although I was the only person using it. Living in my own place = once a week, max.

Poppins17 · 17/02/2021 12:28

So #showergate continues.... I’ve spent the past two days meticulously cleaning the shower after each use and so has my DH.

Today I was asked if the shower had been cleaned to their standard... I responded to say yes it was clean and they could go and check if they liked... after some debate about my level of cleanliness being a lot lower than theirs they went to check and said it was 90% better but still not up to their standards.

We are in such a difficult position, we don’t want to be here any more but our house isn’t secure enough for us to go home... I don’t it will cause a huge bust up if we go to a hotel, so just trying to persuade the builder to get the external doors and roof sorted so we can go home.... had a really crap morning.

WhereDoMyBluebirdsFly · 17/02/2021 12:39

They are absolute nutters. It's like you're 18 year old army recruits having an inspection. Do they check your shoes to make sure they can see their reflection in the polish? Do they make sure your sheets are tucked in tight?

Move into a hotel for a few days, and remember how inhospitable they were in the future.

Winditbackagain · 17/02/2021 12:46

Well after reading this I'm just about to give my ensuit a "proper" clean Grin. I rinse the bubbles away, that's about it. I live in a hard water area and I can never get the marks fully off so it's one of those jobs that I think ah I will do it properly tomorrow.
