To think any cordless vacuum will be rubbish?

I live in a tall house with a lot of stairs and the only thing I really hate about cleaning it is lugging the vacuum cleaner up and down. I’ve got a Dyson cylinder vacuum and it works fine but it’s so awkward as it’s heavy and carrying the long hose bit etc is a pain.

I’d love to get a cordless vacuum, but I’ve had experience of a Vax one and it’s terrible. I like the convenience etc of it, but the power is not good, it gets hair wrapped around it straight away and also after no time at all it starts spitting the bits it’s just picked up out of the back of it onto the floor.

Are all cordless vacuums bad? Do the anti hair-wrap ones work? If I spend £400-£500 on a Dyson or Shark will I just end up feeling I’ve wasted my money?

My dyson V11 is fucking awesome Grin

Had our pet hair one for over a decade, best choice we every made. It's a simple pet dyson. We got it when we rented a 3story house once.

I have a Bosch Athlet and it is brilliant. My plug in vacuum is a Miele so it has tough competition.

It does get hair wrapped around it though. No way around that and i enjoy pulling it all out once in a while. It still works great even with lots of hair wound around the roller though!

Love my Shark.

Rtmhwales · 14/02/2021 19:28

Dyson V11. Would never go back to anything else now. People either love or hate them. Could you borrow a newish model from a friend and see how you get on?

BarbaraofKent · 14/02/2021 19:31

I have a cordless shark and I think it's great, although they do get a bit slagged off on here. I hate plugging and unplugging the bloody vacuum and the stairs were a nightmare with my old one. The shark is so handy, the attachments are really good and it's great on stairs. And because I don't have to faff with it, I use it all the time so it doesn't matter that the suction isn't as good as with a more powerful corded one. I also find the anti hair wrap works really well, despite others saying theirs doesn't work?

Mamette · 14/02/2021 19:32

The dyson ones are not crap.

Shoppingwithmother · 14/02/2021 19:34

Thanks so much for the suggestions so far - I’ll look into those models. I think as some people have said, part of the problem is if you read up about things some people will say they’re great and some will say they don’t work properly at all! And they can cost so much money for something that might be no good!

I've got a Dyson upright and a Dyson handheld.

I use my husbands Makita. He had to buy himself another one.

Shoppingwithmother · 14/02/2021 19:37

I am keen on the anti-hair wrap as we have a problem with long hair and also wool!

My dyson cordless is the best vacuum cleaner I've had. It's expensive but I don't regret it

Brefugee · 14/02/2021 19:38

another vote for the Dyson V11

lunalucie · 14/02/2021 19:39

I've got a dyson V11 but I hate it. I much prefer my Hetty, the dyson is fine for a quick once over but Hetty is better for a proper clean.

TheFlis12345 · 14/02/2021 19:40

Love my Dyson V10!

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 14/02/2021 19:42

I have a Bosch Athlet for about five years and it's brilliant - I don't think I've used the Dyson since I've had it.
I have wooden floors rather than carpet, but a very moulty (but beautiful) cat.

chillychills · 14/02/2021 19:42

I have a cordless Dyson and it’s crap, recently replaced it with a cordless shark and it’s so much better

I've got a Dyson cordless for the stairs / cobwebs etc, which is bloody fantastic, and a robot hoover to do the rest of the floors.

AnnaSW1 · 14/02/2021 19:47

I love my Dyson

travailtotravel · 14/02/2021 19:49

Bought a Dyson this last summer. Wish I'd bought it years ago, its amaze.

BrilliantBetty · 14/02/2021 19:50

Have had nothing but annoyance from my cordless Dyson!! It gets hair wrapped around all the time, I'm forever clearing it.

And the battery life is ok, about 25mins without using the strong suction. It doesn't get me around the whole house so I do upstairs one day, downstairs another.

I'm sick of the hair issue though and have recently been using my Cylinder a lot more. It's heavy but at least I'm not clearing it out constantly.

McEwan · 14/02/2021 19:51

We’ve got a dyson (v8 i think). It’s great if you get bored of hovering after five minutes because that’s when it runs out of power.

Seriously, it’s great for a quick daily run around the kitchen to pick up crumbs but not for a house

jay55 · 14/02/2021 19:51

I've a dyson v10 animal and it copes with my long hair.
No idea if it's any good for a big house though as I live in a small flat.

Treaclepie19 · 14/02/2021 19:52

I love our shark cordless much more than I ever did our dyson cordless. It's brilliant!
