Quelle surprise

Iamnotminterested · 13/02/2021 21:03

Indeed.

Shameful

BritWifeinUSA · 13/02/2021 21:04

And rightly so.

LadyWithLapdog · 13/02/2021 21:04

Shameless

LadyWithLapdog · 13/02/2021 21:04

Spineless

Hankunamatata · 13/02/2021 21:05

Shock horror. Course his own party weren't going to go against him

Iamnotminterested · 13/02/2021 21:05

@BritWifeinUSA

Why?

OP posts:
Nonamesavail · 13/02/2021 21:06

Ridiculous

TheLaughingGenome · 13/02/2021 21:08

History will judge I guess.

multivac · 13/02/2021 21:09

Seven souls though.

TitusPullo · 13/02/2021 21:12

I can’t decide what would have done the worst damage, not holding him to account at all, or impeaching and having the inevitable acquittal in Senate validating Trump’s delusions.

I sometimes think I am loving in the twilight zone when it comes to Trump. How could 71million have lived through the last 4 years of that and thought yes more please. I fear for the US if he runs again in 2024.

TitusPullo · 13/02/2021 21:13

*lived

Have you seen the current UK polls?
NurseButtercup · 13/02/2021 21:15

I'm not surprised, but very disappointed

Bluegrass · 13/02/2021 21:16

It’s a ludicrous situation, Trump’s jury included collaborators and people who believe their livelihood and political future depended on being seen to support him. You just can’t give a judgement under those circumstances but sadly it is what it is.

It’s incredible to see how, in a nation that prides itself on its constitution, on the myth that all are equal, a man can behave with the impunity of a despotic king and yet face no consequences.

I hope at some point actual justice catches up with him. Even Epstein’s money wasn’t enough to protect him in the end. Perhaps the same will prove true for Trump.

TitusPullo · 13/02/2021 21:16

@multivac - no, because I daren’t look. I can watch and follow US politics without having to cry.

LunaHeather · 13/02/2021 21:25

@BritWifeinUSA

And rightly so.
That's my understanding too.
FedUpAtHomeTroels · 13/02/2021 21:25

Now he's sure he was right -as always he'll try and run again.
Next election for president will be a right mess, yet again.

TitusPullo · 13/02/2021 21:30

@BritWifeinUSA and @LunaHeather - what part of the Impeachment trial did you disagree with?

AlternativePerspective · 13/02/2021 21:31

Tbh they never expected him to be convicted so while I think he should have been I’m not entirely sure what they had to gain here.

If they’d just let him fade away he wouldn’t have gained any further attention. By doing this they’ve played right into his hands.

I don’t actually think the republicans would vote him in as contender because while they have voted to acquit him he did cause a lot of disquiet within the party because of his reactions to COVID, the election etc.

He has said that he will create his own party in which case he won’t stand a chance.

Besides which there’s every chance he’ll be dead by then or at least incapacitated.

Snowsnowglorioussnow · 13/02/2021 21:32

I can but can't believe it.

Livelovebehappy · 13/02/2021 21:33

Yep. The right decision. And hardly a surprise.

TitusPullo · 13/02/2021 21:34

@AlternativePerspective - I really think the Democrats were stuck between a rock and a hard place. Do they do nothing, in which case you are permitting someone to erode democracy to the point of inciting domestic terrorism or do you impeach knowing he will get off and revel in his acquittal?

Porcupineintherough · 13/02/2021 21:34

I really dont understand the GOP. This was their big chance to be rid of him, now they really are his bloody party. Let's just hope the old fuck dies before 2024.
