I didn't think the Senate cleared him - it failed to reach a two-third majority to convict him, but a majority voted to find him guilty including 7 from his own party.

The Senate acquitted him. It’s not a guilty/not guilty trial. It’s a political process of impeach/do not impeach. They voted do not impeach. It was a waste of time and money and Trump is now free to run again for President...and strengthened not weakened by it.

However America at present isn't much of a sane world politically and I think that this ending now is probably the outcome least likely to further divides. If he had been prosecuted and or convicted it would have absolutely hammered home the beliefs of many of his supporters.

I disagree that DT was actually impeached. Impeachment only occurs if the whole process happens, not just the first stage in the House.

DT could only have been impeached if the Senate had convicted him. In both cases, they acquitted him. Therefore he has not been successfully impeached. It’s all been a monumental waste of time and money.

Knitting, I've said before, I've always voted ABC (anyone but conservative) so I still have cognitive dissonance opening a site that says 'right side'. But they are the only place I can find archived footage, then shame on other websites for taking archived footage down. That's how echo chambers get louder. It's no longer about left v right for me, I'll be spoiling my ballot at the next election.

Annie, was that to me? I'm no expert but I think there is a belief that a lot of Reps as well as Dems were seen as corrupt (just like MPs in the UK). I guess if Trump wants to run again he would want to know who his true allies are. I don't know - I never paid any attention until the beginning of November.

Impeachment is the first step (in the house)and conviction is the second (in the senate). He has been impeached, just not convicted.

Impeached means charged. He has been charged, so therefore impeached.

I couldn't care less. People often asked to se evidence of the fraud. I remember watching a few hours live streamed a while back and so thought there must be something available to post. This is what I came up with. I'm sure people - even left-wingers - can work things out for themselves without being turned into rabid far right anti semite conspiracy theorist frauds or whatever else the put down of the year is.

God, I even voted for Jeremy Corbyn in 2019 ('wrong' according to mumsnet back then). And I voted to leave the EU ('wrong'). And Lib Dem in 2010. (And for labour during the Tony Blair years...). My point is that it is ludicrous to be the gatekeeper for information and try and shame people from looking. Most people in the UK probably aren't interested anyway.

That's incorrect. He has been impeached twice. He may have been acquitted but he has still been impeached.
Happy to be corrected by any of our American friends, but I'm pretty sure that's the case.

Yes. And we have to bear in mind these have gone through the judicial system with every branch of the judiciary, many being Trump appointed judges.
So what does that say?
He launched lawsuits in key states with no evidence, they were all thrown out (many by judges appointed by him)
Even his very own Attorney General Barr (who he treated as his own personal lawyer) said there was no evidence of election fraud.
Then resigned
So what does that say?
50 lawsuits in 7 key states, all thrown out.

And when then didn't work he turned to his fan base... and look where that ended up. Death, injury and the biggest threat to democracy imaginable.

So what happens now about the deaths on 6 January? All forgotten, nothing to see, move along now?

Twitter is amusing place to read the lawyers picking apart the legal arguments that were used in the Fraud suits that were filed. I know some of the suits were claims like "The machines worked correctly in the county where I voted but not in the county next door!" without any evidence why, other than DT lost the county next door. This sort of thing got thrown out for lack of standing, too.

Trump's lawyers didn't claim fraud in court suits they filed.
