Come reassure me, just found a lump

In my right armpit.
Its very sore to touch/press lightly.

I suddenly noticed the pain about an hour ago and there's a visible red mark where the lump is. Its definitely not an ingrown hair as it doesn't hurt if I drag my finger across the hair follicles if you get me,its definitely in my armpit/a lymph node possibly?

But I've had some other issues over the last few weeks which are really concerning me now.

About 6 weeks ago I started getting pain in that right shoulder, like it was the rotator cuff or something was trapped if I I tried using my full range of motion. I just got on with things. It didn't go away.
For the last two weeks I've had more severe shooting pains in that shoulder and arm.
My neck has been stiff and painful on and off and some small stabbing pains in different parts of my chest and shoulders (sometimes both sides). On and off through the day.
I have lost about 8lbs in the last 3 weeks..I have lost my appetite a little... But I still eat.

Now this coming up in my armpit is freaking me out and I have stabbing pains in my arm/shoulder/armpit area as I write.
The pains are quite strong now. And if I raise my hand above my head...it feels like I'm tugging on the lump kind of..like the lump wont allow me to get my arm up all the way. If that makes sense.

My whole upper arm feels heavy and sore as well as the stabbing pains.

I'm going to call my doctor in the morning and beg to be seen.

My partner was here when I found it. He tried his best to calm me down. I had a shower and got myself together.
He's asleep now and I'm starting to let my mind wander and I really don't want to start crying and panic again so if any of you nice people have any advice, words of encouragement or perhaps a similar story to mine that might help me out do please leave it here.

Thank you so much, I can attach a lovely picture of my pit if it helpsConfused but it just shows up as a small red patch on the photo so not very helpful.

I had a lump in my right armpit in the summer. It was quite sore and red but very much under the skin,

GP examine confirmed it was a sebaceous cyst.

Is it soft or hard OP? Can you move it?

GloGirl · 08/02/2021 23:22

Sore armpit lumps are often a swollen lymph node due to a bit of infection. Always get checked out by a GP but if it hurts its a better sign than a painless lump.

covetingthepreciousthings · 08/02/2021 23:27

Firstly don't consult doctor google, call your doctors in the morning but try not to google (easier said than done I know!).

Secondly have a handhold Thanks

I have no experience of lumps but just didn't want to read and run, hope it goes ok with the Dr. Maybe listen to a relaxing podcast tonight to try get some sleep? I would recommend Get Sleepy, it includes some sleep meditation at the beginning which I find helps when I'm feeling stressed and anxious.

stonebrambleboy · 08/02/2021 23:29

If there's a visible red mark it could be an insect bite or a cyst.

Notimeforaname · 08/02/2021 23:35

Oh God,thanks all!!
I needed to hear things like this.
I didn't go near google. My partner did and he just said all the things you've said. So thanks. That's reassuring.
No it doesn't move and I cant feel anything hard..its so tender and sore. But defo not anything on the skin like a bite.

I think I just panicked because of the shoulder and arm pains and weight but could be coincidence.
I have quite a strong pain up by my clavicle now on that side has anybody had that with their bumps and lumps ?

All of the symptoms could be a cyst, which is also more likely. Especially if it's starting to come to a head or getting infected, wanting to burst.

It might sound trite but take some really deep breaths with your eyes shut, and say something like, it's just a cyst, it's just a cyst on each breath.

Yes definitely take it seriously and see your gp asap but dont go to z yet. You are a A. You have to go via B,C,D and will most likely fall out of the process at E.

So yes I feel your worry, and its valid. I would be in cold sweats if I was you. But remember, it's a long and unlikely road to get to worse case outcome Z.

You are at A. You will entertain B, but no more until you see your Dr, when you might entertain a C or D but still no Z. Your not visiting Z.

I had something similar. Turned out to be an infection, and a week of antibiotics sorted it out. Fingers crossed for you OP. Flowers

Notimeforaname · 09/02/2021 00:24

Thank you ConeHat this a good way to put it. Thank you so much.

RiojaRose that's really good to hear (horrible you had an infection, sorry!) But thank you..you've both calmed me down quite a bit!

That really doesn't sound like something to be worried about.

Of course get seen but it does sound like a cyst or infection or something.

Five67Eight · 09/02/2021 00:28

I had a breast surgeon belittle me and make me cry because I went went to my GP (who then referred me on to him) about breast pain (clearly not PMS type pain, which I know for what it is).

Apparently breast cancer is never painful, and every half wit knows that, were his words, essentially.

That’s my way of reassuring you that if it’s painful, it’s probably more likely to be something else.

Flowers for you. I hope you get in to see your GP soon.

Notimeforaname · 09/02/2021 00:30

Thanks a million WishingHopingThinkingPraying you and the pp's have totally convinced me its just an infection. Thank you..the shaking has stopped 😅 I think I will get out of bed to make a cup of tea...phew

Jesus christ Five67Eight what is wrong with some people?!. Im sorry you had the displeasure of meeting such an asshole.
I watched my friend go through breast cancer a couple of years ago and some of the doctors along the way,my god. No social skills or sympathy even half the time. Thanks for the reassurance!

DH had had a heart attack the week before as well, so it’s fair to say I was a little fragile.

There was me thinking I was being proactive about my health - potentially catching something early, meaning it would be more treatable, especially given my own family history. But no!

I’m sure all will be fine for you - it will be good to get a GP appointment confirmed.

Notimeforaname · 09/02/2021 01:05

It's so disheartening. I hope this hasn't stopped you being just as proactive in the future!

Thank you kindly, I will update in the morning after I call the doctor Smile

MechantGourmet · 09/02/2021 01:27

That sounds really painful- I hope you can find a comfortable position and manage some sleep.
It sounds as though your body is trying to fight something off, and could be a swollen lymph node as a result. Hopefully you can get some answers tomorrow.

cantmakealifeofit · 09/02/2021 01:33

Hi OP, definitely worth getting checked out but cancer lumps are typically hard and painless. With it being red as well, it definitely sounds like some kind of cyst or an irritated lymph node.

According to Cancer Research UK “Cancerous lumps are usually hard, painless and immovable. Cysts or fatty lumps etc are usually slightly softer to touch and can move around.”

cantmakealifeofit · 09/02/2021 01:36

And don’t worry because it doesn’t really move, that may just be the location Smile

Get checked out but I don’t think it sounds like cancer at all.

Nursejackie1 · 09/02/2021 01:47

Lumps in this area are very common and as others have said may be an enlarged lymph node due to infection. Also it’s really common to have abscesses here too, sweat and hair and heat are the perfect habitat...both of these are far more likely than cancer but obviously whatever it is get it looked at and treated with antibiotics or whatever your gp advises.

Notimeforaname · 09/02/2021 02:20

Thanks all you lovely people. You've made me feel much better and not at all worried for tomorrow now😊🤗

They can see me tomorrow at 9.30am.
👍 thanks again all.

WaterBottle123 · 09/02/2021 12:20

Great news OP I am sure they will be able to provide reassurance. Everything you write sounds like cyst or infection

JesusAteMyHamster · 09/02/2021 12:25

My sister gets abscesses in her armpit and groin which sound exactly how you're describing. Try not to worry too much, it sounds much more likely to be an infection to me. Good luck with your appointment. Flowers

ConeHat · 09/02/2021 12:26

Great news the gp is seeing you face to face. Try to put it out of mind until tomorrow morning
