Come reassure me, just found a lump

In my right armpit.
Its very sore to touch/press lightly.

I suddenly noticed the pain about an hour ago and there's a visible red mark where the lump is. Its definitely not an ingrown hair as it doesn't hurt if I drag my finger across the hair follicles if you get me,its definitely in my armpit/a lymph node possibly?

But I've had some other issues over the last few weeks which are really concerning me now.

About 6 weeks ago I started getting pain in that right shoulder, like it was the rotator cuff or something was trapped if I I tried using my full range of motion. I just got on with things. It didn't go away.
For the last two weeks I've had more severe shooting pains in that shoulder and arm.
My neck has been stiff and painful on and off and some small stabbing pains in different parts of my chest and shoulders (sometimes both sides). On and off through the day.
I have lost about 8lbs in the last 3 weeks..I have lost my appetite a little... But I still eat.

Now this coming up in my armpit is freaking me out and I have stabbing pains in my arm/shoulder/armpit area as I write.
The pains are quite strong now. And if I raise my hand above my head...it feels like I'm tugging on the lump kind of..like the lump wont allow me to get my arm up all the way. If that makes sense.

My whole upper arm feels heavy and sore as well as the stabbing pains.

I'm going to call my doctor in the morning and beg to be seen.

My partner was here when I found it. He tried his best to calm me down. I had a shower and got myself together.
He's asleep now and I'm starting to let my mind wander and I really don't want to start crying and panic again so if any of you nice people have any advice, words of encouragement or perhaps a similar story to mine that might help me out do please leave it here.

Thank you so much, I can attach a lovely picture of my pit if it helpsConfused but it just shows up as a small red patch on the photo so not very helpful.

Glad you've got an appointment for tomorrow morning, not too much longer to wait.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 09/02/2021 12:52

Hope you've been seen and are getting sorted OP Thanks

Definitely get it checked, but could well just be a cyst. Cysts sometimes need dealing with, but they're not cancer! (I had a cyst inside my rotator cuff - it was pressing on the nerve and I was getting very severe shooting pains if I raised my arm. That did have to be removed - keyhole surgery - but then it was over and done with.)

Right so. It sounds a bit like this..or as a pp suggested infection.

If it were an infection..since ive been feeling pain for about 6weeks already I'm assuming I've had an Infection since then and today its extremely painful/angry,should I look out for anything to be worried by or do infections like that just stay untreated for a while with no complications?
Ie should I look out for anything between today and tomorrow that could cause concern.
Sorry. I'm going back and forth now between ''its fine'' to.... ''jesus this is very bad pain and discomfort like ive never had before, should I be worried '' 🙄 I know there's no need. I think I'm just home alone and have too much time. Ill take more ibuprofen..Thanks everyone!

Just like any infection you should be alert for fever or chills or weird rashes. But chances are will stay localised and doc will you give you antibiotics. Pls come back and let us know you're ok :)

Notimeforaname · 09/02/2021 16:25

Thanks WaterBottle123! Smile Will do.

Stoptherideiwannagetoff · 09/02/2021 20:20

OP do you have a hot water bottle? If you do, lay with it over the bump and see if it goes down at all. Sometimes cysts and lymph nodes get a little blocked and the heat helps the fluid start moving again. Good luck.

Notimeforaname · 09/02/2021 20:24

No hot water bottle unfortunately but will get one off a friend tomorrow. Thank you.

Awww I feel for you! Sounds super sore, but probably benign as cancerous lumps like this aren’t usually red, painful and inflamed. It sounds like maybe a abscess under the skin or some kind of cyst. I’d put money on it! I’m not a doctor obviously but it sounds annoying but I probably wouldn’t be worrying. And I’m a worrier!

year5teacher · 09/02/2021 20:36

And re: your worries about if you need to look out for signs of worsening infection - no, probably not, but lots of swelling and a temperature are key signs. You won’t get either of those things, you’ll be absolutely fine!

Notimeforaname · 10/02/2021 08:26

Thank you year5teacher I will be leaving in half an hour for appointment..I just felt the lump again and it's hard now. Like a pea? Dont know if that's good, bad or indifferent as I I havnt looked at google once 😅🤣 but I'll know soon enough. Thanks again everyone for keeping me calm.Wink

Hi lovely people well it wasnt the best news. It was a nurse who saw me ,not a doctor.
She found a lump possibly two ,in my right breast that I had not noticed Blush .
She seemed uninterested in the painful armpit lupp saying it could be an infection or something. She was more concerned with my weight loss and lump(s) she found.

So ive been referred to the breast clinic to start investigating. As I am under 35 I am 'bottom of the heap' for these things..in normal times would take 6-8 weeks for appointment. So with covid it could be longer. But I do have family members in the hospital that can bump me up once an appointment arrives. I could be two weeks waiting for that though.
I wasn't even given a prescription for pain killers or anything. I just paid like an idiot..and walked out 😅

I should have said ,I'm in Ireland. Not the uk.
In case anyone is confused with the medical system.

I had a cyst on my side that got infected. You could barely see anything on the surface until it was really bad but the whole area was incredibly painful. The armpit is quite a sensitive area anyway and I think cysts are quite common there. Try not to worry until you have to, lots of lumps and bumps have relatively harmless (if sometimes pretty painful) causes.

LOLeater · 10/02/2021 11:21

Hi OP,
Your mind must be racing after your appointment. Try to be gentle with yourself I think. Going for that appointment was the best thing you could do and I’m keeping fingers crossed that you will be seen sooner by a specialist. Is it worth ringing regularly and asking about appointments left available after cancellations?
No experience here but I am thinking of you and sending positive vibes.

Another0THER · 10/02/2021 11:45

Op, I had a nurse who works in a breast clinic tell me that of every 10 women who are referred by GPs for scans, 8 out of that 10 will walk out on following the mammogram and / ultrasound, as the lump will be a fluid-filled cyst or fibroid. Of the other two women, they will have biopsies and, even then, in one case, it will be benign. In other worlds, 9 out of 10 breast lumps are benign. I have been in your position and it turned out to be a fluid-filled cyst. They are very common and many women don’t even know they have them. I only felt mine as it was near the surface.

Can you feel the lump/s yourself at all?

Holly60 · 10/02/2021 12:20

Could be a gland?? Would make sense if you are aching elsewhere as could be a virus. Obviously get it checked but I’ve had lumps under my arm over the years and always been a gland. Could be red where you’ve been poking it Grin

Notimeforaname · 10/02/2021 12:56

Thanks lads, I'm trying not to let my mind go too far. I haven't gotten upset or anything yet.
I got home and suddenly realised I can just go private and pay. I've called the doctors back to ask them for a private referral instead and I have just to call back in 2 hours to see what the story is with it. Then I can get the ball rolling. The pain is something else..i cant fucking believe i just paid and walked out like a moronHmm Without any advice on pain relief or some strong painkillers.
I've just been using ibuprofen though it doesn't do much. I got my period last night too so it's all 'go' over here today 🙄😅

OP posts:
ConeHat · 10/02/2021 13:59

I'm sorry it wasnt just "hey it's a I growing hair, let me fix it".

Maybe it's a infected node due to cyst in your boob?

It would great to go private if you can. I think we are still doing the two week pathway in England?

I guess it's good news in that you have had the start of s good MOT? Stay positive. I can hold some of your worries if you want? Pop them in virtual box and pass them.this way if need it

Thingsthatgo · 10/02/2021 14:42

My boobs always get lumps just before my period. You might find they disappear over the next few days.

Notimeforaname · 11/02/2021 17:40

Thanks for all the reassurance everyone.

I do have very lumpy boobs in general. I just didn't recognize this particular one when the doctor pointed it out to me.

I started to get very upset last night after trying to ignore it.
But today, my lovely friend's family member who's a GP, rang me for over an hour to answer any questions I had and reassure me. She made me feel like a brand new woman again. Smile so I'm just going to carry on with the ibuprofen and get active again (weight loss could be part muscle loss from sitting around feeling sick and sore) so advice was to get active whilst waiting for the private clinic to contact me. So that's what I will do.
Thanks again to you lovely posters for taking the time to answer me and be so kind and helpful.

I will update as and when things happen Smile Have some flowers all of you FlowersGrin

If you have booby cysts then please try to stay calm - me too and it’s led to plenty of boob squeezing and poking over the years (none of it pleasant), but one consultant said if he took them all out I’d have nothing left and that I was more cyst than breast (nice guy, meant kindly). Hope that you get a swift appointment.

Notimeforaname · 11/02/2021 18:10

sarahC40 hello fellow lumpy lady! Grin yes my boobs are quite small , imagine I'm all lumps and skin Grin thank you! XSmile
