Come reassure me, just found a lump

In my right armpit.
Its very sore to touch/press lightly.

I suddenly noticed the pain about an hour ago and there's a visible red mark where the lump is. Its definitely not an ingrown hair as it doesn't hurt if I drag my finger across the hair follicles if you get me,its definitely in my armpit/a lymph node possibly?

But I've had some other issues over the last few weeks which are really concerning me now.

About 6 weeks ago I started getting pain in that right shoulder, like it was the rotator cuff or something was trapped if I I tried using my full range of motion. I just got on with things. It didn't go away.
For the last two weeks I've had more severe shooting pains in that shoulder and arm.
My neck has been stiff and painful on and off and some small stabbing pains in different parts of my chest and shoulders (sometimes both sides). On and off through the day.
I have lost about 8lbs in the last 3 weeks..I have lost my appetite a little... But I still eat.

Now this coming up in my armpit is freaking me out and I have stabbing pains in my arm/shoulder/armpit area as I write.
The pains are quite strong now. And if I raise my hand above my head...it feels like I'm tugging on the lump kind of..like the lump wont allow me to get my arm up all the way. If that makes sense.

My whole upper arm feels heavy and sore as well as the stabbing pains.

I'm going to call my doctor in the morning and beg to be seen.

My partner was here when I found it. He tried his best to calm me down. I had a shower and got myself together.
He's asleep now and I'm starting to let my mind wander and I really don't want to start crying and panic again so if any of you nice people have any advice, words of encouragement or perhaps a similar story to mine that might help me out do please leave it here.

Thank you so much, I can attach a lovely picture of my pit if it helpsConfused but it just shows up as a small red patch on the photo so not very helpful.

Just wanted to clear up a misconception that breast cancer isn’t painful. I hate that GPS peddle that shite; it was my no 1 symptom, way before a lump.

OP, when I did have a cancerous lymph node in my armpit, it was not painful at all. I think yours sounds more like a cyst.

Kerzel · 11/02/2021 18:28

Also, I think your right to go private. Age shouldn’t come into it; I was age 30 when diagnosed and know plenty other women diagnosed young.

CatAndHisKit · 11/02/2021 21:08

RiojaRose could you tell me how the infectioon was diagnosed? I have smth similar around my neck, I think only CT san can show what's wrong?
Also what kind of abtibios did you take - as it a penicillin group or something stonger/specific?

MaLarkinn · 11/02/2021 22:39

Hi op, greetings from Dublin. How are you feeling? Hopefully my experience will help you feel a bit better. Couple of years ago I had an inverted nipple, lumps galore and I mean galore, felt like bubble wrap under my skin. Wasn't overly worried about the lumps as that's just how my boobs are. Had some discharge in nipple also. Went to my Dr, had an examination and his exact words to me were, I'm not the kind of Dr to beat around the bush, I think we have something to worry about here. He said he would refer me to the Mater Hospital, gave me a copy of referral letter also. On this I could see the little pic with dots on the body diagram of areas he was concerned about, it honestly looked like a dot to dot picture! He also said I had a huge lump, I broke down at this point as hadn't realised I had a huge lump, just thought I had bubble wrap.

Anyway, I contacted the Mater and the wait was quite long, Dr told me he wasn't happy about the wait so I contacted Beaumont and they rang me back and offered me an appointment 2 days later, I was so relieved. Went to appointment, Dr had a feel around then I went down for ultrasound and mammogram. Dr was very thorough, ran ultrasound all over my neck too.

After all that, there was nothing there, absolutely nothing to worry about. The inverted nipple was due to a milk duct or something, I can't really remember.

So there is my story, hope it makes you feel a bit better.

If I were you, I'd ask for a copy of referral letter and contact several hospitals yourself.

Isn't it a disgrace that you had to pay for a breast check appointment.

Mischance · 11/02/2021 22:49

I was seen within 2 weeks after seeing GP and that was just with breast pain and no lumps. It is part of the protocol for any breast symptom here.

I am so sorry that you cannot get the same service without going private. I hope you get an appointment soon and that all goes well.

RaininSummer · 11/02/2021 23:28

Not an expert of any kind but just wanted to say that I think often these lumps are cysts but if not I understand that treatment is really good. I know you are young. My sister had breast cancer of an aggressive kind at 32 years old. She's now 55. Try not to worry (too much) x

Notimeforaname · 12/02/2021 15:18

Oh thanks a million to everyone who replied..it means a lot to me.

Hearing your stories helps settle my mind as I'm feeling confident it will be ok but still having the odd wobble every now and again. And I can see some people close to me looking on the verge of tears so I really dont want to worry them as much as they don't want to worry me. It's a weird one.

Yes it's a disgrace how we're treated based on age..my friends relative (gp) that I spoke with yesterday on the phone said if she had seen me ,she would have had me seen urgently because of the pain and anxiety. But hey ho..I could even be waiting up to two weeks for the private hospital to contact me.

Its called the Beacon..has any Irish mumsnetters been to the breast clinic there?

I've also read its highly unlikely I will be given a mammogram as they rarely do this on women under 35. I am 33. So expecting just an ultrasound and maybe biopsy.

I know what to expect in that regard as I supported my best friend 2 years ago through her breast cancer treatment and went to every appointment with her so I dont feel as worried about the screening/testing process...just the possible outcome.

I have recieved my appointment for the private hospital.
It will be in 3 weeks.
Funnily enough I will be seeing the consultant who diagnosed my best friend 2 years ago in the public hospital. Such a small country 🙄

Anyway I know this thread isnt very active but perhaps me leaving my experience here can help someone else along the way. Also I have been repeatedly reading all the post left here ,any time I've been feeling worried and they have been brilliant for my mind 💕Smile

Good Luck 💐 please update the thread when you get some good news.
It’s only natural to worry but statistically it’s probably something minor or easily treatable x

WaterBottle123 · 15/02/2021 16:48

Best of luck OP

Thank you so much...I think all of you sending luck has actually worked!!!
I just had a text from the public hospital saying they can see me next Tuesday!!! I'm so happy and relieved!!

Private hospital recommended I hold onto their appointment for 3 weeks time.. just in case I need anything extra and then I can cancel.

Thank you so much for the support everyone. I really mean it when I say any replies make me feel warm and fuzzy Smile thanks so much. X

Thanks wonderful news! Such a relief!

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 16/02/2021 17:49

Hi OP
I had similar, a lump I could feel deep in my armpit which I worried was BC or lymphoma. It was a lymph node that was encased in fat that had not shrunk back to its normal size. Nothing to worry about. But at the time I panicked. I hope yours will be similar.

RaininSummer · 16/02/2021 18:57

Thats good news. Still sending those positive vibes.

Dreamscomingtrue · 17/02/2021 01:20

That’s great news!

🍀 a 4 leaf clover, or is it a shamrock? for good luck.
Please let us know how you get on X

Notimeforaname · 17/02/2021 14:14

I've just had a letter in the door confirming the public appointment for next week.

But it says it will just be an examination and no tests or imaging will be done . It's just a poke around.
IF they feel the need for tests they will then schedule those( I guess that's where the long wait comes in)
So I will probably end up using the private appointment for 3 weeks time just for peace of mind.
My partner and family are understandably very worried so I feel I should just get all the tests done, even if the public hospital says they think I'm fine, just by poking around.

I feel the seed has been planted and I would be forever anxious if I just took their word that ''I'm young and probably fine''

I know its wonderful I'm even being seen so soon...but I've been so up and down this week...relieved,then anxious and back again.

But you're all being very kind and supportive.

Isn't it funny how the words of a stranger can comfort us so much? I've felt calmer reading comments here than listening to my nearest and dearest 🤣

Great you got the appointment OP. Your worrying will hopefully be over very soon!

Notimeforaname · 24/02/2021 00:20

Hello all, had my public hospital appointment, definite lump that they dont like and said the lymph nodes in my neck are not normal Confused.referred for ultrasound- up to 12 weeks wait - so will go with private appointment on March 8th.

Had an evening of prosecco with my dear friend who fought and won against breast cancer in 2019. I've come home now and have opened the Christmas Gin my Cousin gave me. Probably not the greatest idea ever but I'm being quietGrin

Once again, thank you to all the lovely people here who have taken time out to respond to me during this scary time. XxSmile

I get these a lot. So does my son. The hospital wanted to drain my sons as it didn’t go down with antibiotics but waiting for the appointment (he’ll need a general due to learning disabilities) its gone down on its own. The fact that it hurts is a good sign..

Cloudyrainsham · 24/02/2021 03:37

@Notimeforaname - just read your update. Best of luck with it, fingers crossed for you x
