I want to start this post by saying I'm not generally a 'woo' person. I'm not talking about ghosts or implying that the furniture is haunted but I am wondering about bad energy. I've NC because I expect to be torn a new one Grin

Just over 2 weeks ago I bought a pre owned wardrobe on the Facebook market place. It's quite old.

Probably irrelevant but the people who delivered it were quite strange folk, the sort you get an uneasy feeling from. It was a very awkward handover.

Well ever since I got this wardrobe in the bedroom I've been plagued with disturbing nightmares every.single.night without fail.

My toddler DD who also sleeps in my room has been saying she is "scared" in the night now, she has never done that before. She doesn't know about my nightmares and has no reason to be so unsettled all of a sudden.

My mood has been quite low for the same amount of time with no particular cause identifiable, I'm finding myself feeling uncharacteristically short tempered and down.

AIBU to think all of the above may be linked to the wardrobe/bad energy.

Bonkers or possible?!

Kindly- Bonkers.

It’s lockdown, crap weather. Most of us have disturbed sleep and aren’t feeling good. You’re just looking for somewhere to hang your feelings.

Notglam · 07/02/2021 09:10

Sage it

crowsfeet57 · 07/02/2021 09:10

If you're worried get a smudge stick and smudge the room. That gets rid of bad energy.

AllTheFloralCurtains · 07/02/2021 09:10

Get rid of the wardrobe.
It's probably self fulfilling prophecy after a bad handover, or perhaps the wardrobe is made from hell-wood and cursed by Beelzebub himsel. Doesn't matter at the end of the day - regardless or the reason, the wardrobe makes you unhappy. Get rid.

ZaraW · 07/02/2021 09:10

YABU your daughter probably senses you are acting a bit strange.

PrivateHall · 07/02/2021 09:11

I don't know, but can you move it outside for a night and see what happens? Or Sleep in a different room for a night? Just to test out your theory...

Brunt0n · 07/02/2021 09:11

I would get rid of it. This is one of the reasons I don’t buy second hand, you don’t know the story behind it!

Tryingtogetitright · 07/02/2021 09:11

I'd get rid of it.

I don't believe in woo either but I bought a ring on FB once and it just gave me a bad feeling. Can't explain it. My mood changed it was weird. Gave it to charity shop in the end.

CodenameVillanelle · 07/02/2021 09:12

Your brain is causing the bad dreams which might be related to weird vibes your brain picked up from the sellers. The wardrobe itself contains no energy or capacity to influence your dreams outside of the meaning your subconscious attaches to the wardrobe.
So I guess the answer is both yes and no!

Oysterbabe · 07/02/2021 09:12

You've got a bad feeling about it which is on your mind and leading to nightmares. Your sleep being unsettled is unsettling your child. Give yourself a shake and get over it.

Lifeinaonesie · 07/02/2021 09:12

Whats it made out of? Is it painted in arsenic or something? That would be my first thought, that it's giving off some kind of chemical rather than it being possessed!

WhiteBricks · 07/02/2021 09:13

My Dad was a priest and used to go round and bless people's houses. Maybe give your local vicar a call and ask for some holy water Grin

Camomila · 07/02/2021 09:13

Sage is often used for cleansing rooms, I would buy some nice sage-scented furniture polish, or if you can't find sage furniture polish, - essential oil or hand wash mixed with water and give the wardrobe a good clean.

You'll have a nice clean wardrobe and either cleanse the negative energy/the placebo effect will kick in. Either way you'll hopefully feel better.

UntamedWisteria · 07/02/2021 09:13

It won't be the wardrobe but getting rid of it will probably make you feel better.

HighSpecWhistle · 07/02/2021 09:13

Wardrobes can't dictate sleep or emotions. But if you don't want it, sell it on saying it doesn't fit.

Radishesandcake · 07/02/2021 09:14

Put it on gumtree today!

5128gap · 07/02/2021 09:15

No not bad energy, but probably something about it that triggers your subconscious.
I remember being in an antique shop once and looking at an item and being overwhelmed with a feeling of fear. Turns out there was something very similar in a place I was terrified of as a small child.

Bollss · 07/02/2021 09:15

Talk to it. I know it sounds mad but even if it's just your brain playing tricks on you - you're kinda reassuring yourself too.

I'm sure there's "something" unhappy in our house. So I talk to it. It has worked (of there is a something, it's piped down, if there's not and it's my brain, my brain has calmed down!)

I'm just like "please can you stop doing that because it's making me unhappy and it's not very kind, we live here now, you have to accept it"

I suppose it's a bit different because it's an item but I do think the placebo effect is a thing even if woo isn't!

Batinhernightdress · 07/02/2021 09:15

You need a UV light there are cheap on ebay then you can look for the blood splatters....

ItbarelysnowsinLondon · 07/02/2021 09:16

I was wondering about sage/smudging the place, I've never done it before and don't know much about it but I was looking online before I posted and that seems to be a common suggestion when a place feels a bit off.

I don't think DD is picking up bad vibes from me, I haven't behaved in any way differently, I just feel the way I do and I'm shattered from such crap sleep. I've always been one to internalize my feelings when I'm down/pissed off or whatever, so I don't upset the kids.

It may be coincidental of course.

Kindly, bonkers - but you feel how you feel!

Burn some sage and see how you feel after that Grin

Chelseabunsforme · 07/02/2021 09:16

You have a new (to you) wardrobe and it seems a shame to tip it. Why not give it some love and change the vibe? Sand and polish or repaint it. If nothing else it'll get rid of any lingering whiffs that might be the problem with you sleeping. I agree with pp about your DD. She's picking up on your feelings.

LaBellina · 07/02/2021 09:16

I second using sage.
I don’t think you’re bonkers op and one of my most down to earth friends has always warned me about this because of my love for vintage jewelry.

PhilCornwall1 · 07/02/2021 09:17

It's now probably passed on it's bad energy (did I really put that!!?) to your clothes as well.

So it's a case of the wardrobe and all the clothes going. This is going to get expensive!!

ItbarelysnowsinLondon · 07/02/2021 09:18

This is it Grin

Pine/oak?

I can't take it outside for a night as I don't have a garden.

I could try sleeping in the other room for a night though to see if that makes a difference.

I bought a pre owned wardrobe now the place has bad energy..
