I want to start this post by saying I'm not generally a 'woo' person. I'm not talking about ghosts or implying that the furniture is haunted but I am wondering about bad energy. I've NC because I expect to be torn a new one Grin

Just over 2 weeks ago I bought a pre owned wardrobe on the Facebook market place. It's quite old.

Probably irrelevant but the people who delivered it were quite strange folk, the sort you get an uneasy feeling from. It was a very awkward handover.

Well ever since I got this wardrobe in the bedroom I've been plagued with disturbing nightmares every.single.night without fail.

My toddler DD who also sleeps in my room has been saying she is "scared" in the night now, she has never done that before. She doesn't know about my nightmares and has no reason to be so unsettled all of a sudden.

My mood has been quite low for the same amount of time with no particular cause identifiable, I'm finding myself feeling uncharacteristically short tempered and down.

AIBU to think all of the above may be linked to the wardrobe/bad energy.

Bonkers or possible?!

It's not the wardrobe per se but your feelings at the time you bought the wardrobe (Covid anxiety?) and the feeling you had that the people were weird have made you pin all the bad energy onto.the wardrobe, if that makes sense. I had a similar thing about a wardrobe too. A few days after I got diagnosed with breast cancer my dad gave me a (lovely) wardrobe that he was getting rid of. I spent the next 6 months whilst I was having treatment with that wardrobe in my bedroom. I started to hate it and think it was creepy. By the time my chemo was finished I couldn't look at that fucking wardrobe -I hated it! The first thing I did was throw it out. My husband thought I was bonkers as it was nice and we needed a wardrobe but I just couldn't stand it. I had to get it out. Maybe something similar has happened eith you? You're feeling disturbed about other things and you've projected all that uneasiness onto an inanimate object. I dont think it's uncommon.

No thoughts on the woo-ness aspect of the original post but I am enjoying the conversation!

Catwoman123 · 07/02/2021 12:38

It looks like my mums wardrobe which she got new about 10 years ago.
If you don't like it then get rid. Nothing anyone is going to say on here is going to help as in your head you've decided the wardrobe is the problem. I dont mean that in a nasty way..even if its not the wardrobe getting rid will make you feel better so you should do it.

WhereDoMyBluebirdsFly · 07/02/2021 12:55

@AlternativePerspective

Years ago I bought a carved wooden box. Can’t describe it any more than it was sort of ornate iyswim.

I took it home and I spoke to two friends during the holiday and wrote down both their addresses and put them in that box. That was all that was in there.

Those two people died within a week of each other.

I know on a rational level that of course the box didn’t have anything to do with their deaths. But I just never felt the same about it after that and I got rid.

Shock Please tell me you burned the box rather than give it to a charity shop?

44% of people agree with this bollocks?

We need to start teaching critical thinking from primary school.

ZoeTurtle · 07/02/2021 13:38

God it's even worse, 56% think you're not talking utter shit? I need to go have a cry.

Some of us are perfectly capable of critical thinking, but manage not to be so rude about other peoples’ beliefs. Beliefs and critical thinking are not mutually exclusive concepts.

So you believe in a higher being?
BorderlineHappy · 07/02/2021 13:57

OP, seriously. Get rid off it. Who knows what happened in that wardrobe.

Maybe the Lion and The Witch are looking for it.

Dutch1e · 07/02/2021 13:59

I'd get rid of it regardless of whether you rummage up a good reason or not. It gives you the willies, end of story.

Check it thoroughly for hidden cameras installed by creepy former owners, then chuck it

It's a shame that having a sense of humour can't be taught, too.

OP, is it moving on lots of little feet? If you can get it to transfer its allegiance to you it could come in handy for deterring burglars, Jehovah’s Witnesses, doorstep chuggers and the like Grin

DejaVoodoo · 07/02/2021 14:10

Sage? What are you all on about? How does that work?
And what sort of "energy" do you think this wardrobe contains?

Never read such bolleaux in my life Confused

goldfinchfan · 07/02/2021 14:12

If an object gives you a bad feeling then get rid of it.

Objects do absorb energy from people and in some caases it will unpleasant to some people.
Often most people are not very sensitive but if I feel something feels wrong I accept that it's not right for me.

pumpkinbump · 07/02/2021 14:14

Really enjoying this thread and the stories. I would have to get rid of it.

Am I the only one smiling gently at the irony of your response when combined with your name?

candlemasbells · 07/02/2021 14:26

I'd have to get rid of it. I'd be tempted to chop it up for firewood but not sure if I'd dare burn it inside on the wood burner.
My house still has the presence of the previous owner. I think I'll smudge it with sage.

CriticalWoman · 07/02/2021 14:30

Genuine questions - how do objects absorb energy? And having absorbed it how do they emit it to make people feel bad? And how does burning sage defeat the bad energy?

AlwaysLatte · 07/02/2021 14:33

It's psychological. It's tall and shadowy in the dark so it's got your mind going. And you were probably unsettled collecting it as it meant getting near people with possible harmful germs. So it's made you uneasy and the kids have picked up on your mood, and now it's a self fulfilling prophecy as you're going to be expecting it to cause you disturbance.

AlwaysLatte · 07/02/2021 14:34

Give it a good clean, fill it with your clothes, sleep with the light on for a couple of nights and save the herbs for your cooking!

Mara2021 · 07/02/2021 14:36

People will say it's woo, but when you think about it, we're all just energy anyway, in the form of atoms and stuff, and sometimes energy gets a bit "trapped".

Firstly, make sure you protect yourself and your family by enclosing yourselves inside an invisible bubble of white light, or invoking your Guardian Angel (the Archangel Michael is also known as a good angel to invoke if you want to get rid of dark energy). This is the stage that people often forget, or aren't told about. (Invoking as in asking them to protect you and keep you safe.)

Then get hold of a sage smudging stick (UK-grown if at all possible) and/or incense to "smudge it". Let the incense/smudge stick burn down and then throw it out as quickly as you can, taking the energy with it.

You can also sprinkle the wardrobe with salt (rock salt or sea salt for preference), and leave for at least a day, then sweep away, and say a prayer (whatever works for you - The Lord's Prayer if you're from a Christian tradition).

There are other options too, another one would be to mix a nice polish or cleaning solution with a bit of lavender (as long as you're not allergic) and clean it, again, throw away the cloth. Even if you don't believe in 'woo', the act of cleaning it is usually pretty therapeutic. And if you're feeling absolutely determined to shift any bad energy, great suggestion upthread about holy water.

There's physical dirt that you see on the surface and then there's what could be called "spiritual" dirt. And out of curiosity, what's the wood? It might also sound a bit out there, but you could also ask for the spirit of the tree to be released, if necessary. And if there's an integral mirror, cover it with a dark cloth at night and see if that helps. Funny things, mirrors....

‘Bad energy’.
Burning sage.
Hanging blackthorn.

WTF is this utter bollocks that am I reading? Is this thread some sort of weird in-joke which I don’t get?
