I want to start this post by saying I'm not generally a 'woo' person. I'm not talking about ghosts or implying that the furniture is haunted but I am wondering about bad energy. I've NC because I expect to be torn a new one Grin

Just over 2 weeks ago I bought a pre owned wardrobe on the Facebook market place. It's quite old.

Probably irrelevant but the people who delivered it were quite strange folk, the sort you get an uneasy feeling from. It was a very awkward handover.

Well ever since I got this wardrobe in the bedroom I've been plagued with disturbing nightmares every.single.night without fail.

My toddler DD who also sleeps in my room has been saying she is "scared" in the night now, she has never done that before. She doesn't know about my nightmares and has no reason to be so unsettled all of a sudden.

My mood has been quite low for the same amount of time with no particular cause identifiable, I'm finding myself feeling uncharacteristically short tempered and down.

AIBU to think all of the above may be linked to the wardrobe/bad energy.

Bonkers or possible?!

Smash it up and burn it then dance on its grave singing alleluia

Ashard20 · 07/02/2021 10:01

Too outing to go into much detail but we had a similar thing at work, relating to an antique object kept in a walk-in cupboard. Definitely not imagination and it was experienced over time by different staff in different cupboards. Sounds daft I know but in the end we had to get rid. It was inexplicable, but even the most sceptic member of staff was freaked out by it.

Emeraldshamrock · 07/02/2021 10:05

My granny would tell you to burn sage, say a prayer, douse the wardrobe with holy water.
I'd say it is the deliverer who put you off it.
Stick it up for sale.

ItbarelysnowsinLondon · 07/02/2021 10:06

I'm relieved that not everyone thinks I'm bonkers but can understand why some do Grin

The bedroom isn't particularly small but it's quite full due to DD sharing the room and needing to have the cot / her chest of draws in there aswell as mine. The placement is crap and it would look better if I shuffled things around a bit.

Points noted about replacing the room with good energy after smudging. I'll make it a fun thing for the kids, they won't know what it is or why I'm doing it.

I'm fascinated by the anecdotes on the thread from people who've experienced similar from pre owned items!

@Oileo

Kindly- Bonkers.

It’s lockdown, crap weather. Most of us have disturbed sleep and aren’t feeling good. You’re just looking for somewhere to hang your feelings.

Bravo! Grin “You’re just looking for somewhere to hang your feelings” Brilliant!
BrightYellowDaffodil · 07/02/2021 10:13

I am a woo person and I’d try sage - I’d light a smudge stick, blow it out then walk round the wardrobe if you can (by pulling it away from the wall) or by standing in front of it and drawing the circle vertically (as in standing in front of the wardrobe and drawing the circle in front of you). Draw/walk the circle clockwise and ask that negativity leaves this place.

morninglive · 07/02/2021 10:14

I'd get rid of it. I've watched too many horror movies not to.

jackieweaverhasauthorityhere · 07/02/2021 10:16

Sounds to me like it's the sellers who creeped you out and it is stood there reminding you of them. Especially the starey one and the odd FB messages about revenge. Hopefully the sage burning will let you make a mental fresh start!

Fallsballs · 07/02/2021 10:18

£100 for 1980’s pine ? Jeez, burn the fucker.

VodselForDinner · 07/02/2021 10:23

You’re going to have to sleep in it.

truthisalie · 07/02/2021 10:23

Just get rid off the wardrobe and that's it. Maybe it has accumulated all the negativity from the previous owners.

truthisalie · 07/02/2021 10:25

Put some garlic in your room. Let the fuckers curl.

TheVanguardSix · 07/02/2021 10:26

You got bad juju off the guys you bought it from. That's all. And you've been a bit ripped off. Grin
Sage it or sell it on.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 07/02/2021 10:26

Also, in terms of replacement energy, I’d ring a bell or clap my hands after the sage bit, then use an oil burner or incense with a bright, clean scent - something like lemon or lavender - to bring a new energy. For an object like a wardrobe, I’d leave the doors open and put the oil burner inside but carefully and under supervision. Burning your house down might solve the initial problem but it causes a rather larger one! If in doubt you could just put some of the oil on a cotton wool pad (or even just leave the bottle with the lid off) and leave the scent to permeate around. Another option would be scented flowers put in the room.

Gingersnaphappy · 07/02/2021 10:27

Sell on. Quickly. Pp is right. You do not want that bad atmosphere passed on to your clothes. And make sure that those creepy blokes haven't marked your house with chalk or anything. And sage the room after it has gone or ask a priest to bless it.

Houses don't have to be old to have a creepy atmosphere. When we were house hunting I got a really horrid feeling off an on-line photo of a 1970s flat in London. Couldn't explain it. DH insisted on looking at it anyway but I only got inside the entrance floor and then fled.

Got the colly-wobbles once in one spot in the bedroom of a National Trust stately home when I was eight. Parents couldn't get me out of there fast enough. Same thing happened five years later in a Scottish castle. I don't think it's necessarily caused by anything "woo"; I just think it's our primitive senses being triggered. A bit like how we are attuned to non-verbal communication. I'd listen to your gut op!

oooh I have a story! about a bad bed. just not sure I should tell it on here it might not help anyone

bobbiester · 07/02/2021 10:29

Have you checked in the back? Maybe there's a gateway to a magical fantasy world in there?

Stovetopespresso · 07/02/2021 10:30

truthisalie · 07/02/2021 10:31

Do you have a UV torch to see if there is anything on the walls of the wardrobe?

truthisalie · 07/02/2021 10:33

OP, seriously. Get rid off it. Who knows what happened in that wardrobe.

Please share! I'm interested Grin

WRT the price and me being ripped off.. I did think £100 was a bit much with it being second (maybe even 3rd/4th) hand but I was desperate for a wardrobe as my old one was falling to bits.

This one is solid and built to last, plus the £100 included delivery. It also matches my dressing table which was a big bonus.

Nope I don't.

I don't think anything has happened in the wardrobe per se, but perhaps the previous owners were ill / had recently died hence it going to the clearance blokes.

It may even be a simple case of bad vibes from the delivery men.

Who knows Blush

Changechangychange · 07/02/2021 10:38

Get rid of the wardrobe. You are bonkers, but you aren’t going to feel happy with that wardrobe now so might as well replace it for one that doesn’t feel “tainted”.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 07/02/2021 10:39

As long as you cleared out the dead bodies, it should be fine.
