AIBU to despise outdoor sofa and coffee table sets?

I don't know why I have taken such a dislike to them. Maybe it is because it is "indoor" furniture but outside. Maybe it is because they are all made out of grey plastic wicker which is not environmentally friendly. Maybe it is because I find them very "show-offy keeping up with the Jones' smug". Maybe it is because I know if I had one, I'd find bringing the cushions in from the rain a pain in the bum. I dunno but I really find them tacky and vulgar. Am I on my own?

The ancient Roman's and Greeks regarded lying out on sofas to eat as the height of sophistication.
So there really wasn't one rule in past times for sofa etiquette.

UnityUnited · 01/02/2021 16:13

Perhaps @snowliving but then again, what did he Romans ever do for us? Grin
@Janegrey333 what in earth are you blathering on about?

The Georgians? What the fuck has that time period got to do with comfy outdoor sofas?

You really do seem to be quite a bizarre person with your comments on this and the snobbish thread.

Off you pop to lace your corset up to prevent you from such uncivilised antics such as sofa slobbing.
I see you haven’t been paying attention.

Bluntness100 said this:
Sure you can get comfy at the dining table, sure you can lay in bed, but many people find a big comfy sofa the best option, because if they didn’t, well no one would have sofas inside either.

I was responding to that. Got it now?

UnityUnited · 01/02/2021 16:26

@Janegrey333 this feels like madness. Are plastic rattan sofas really the hill you want to die on? It feels like it is and I can’t grasp why.

Jane famously does this on other threads about taste and property, i quire like it, it’s funny.

Jane, sorry I do suspect you’re in a one bedroom run down flat or your parents basement, amusing yourself, 😃

waterlego · 01/02/2021 16:33

Georgians 😆

It looks as if your punctuation has gone awry, there...

I think the OP opened up a can of defensiveness!

Janegrey333 · 01/02/2021 16:41

If you like the things why are you getting so worked up? Or is it a case of trying to defend the indefensible...? I can quite understand it if it is the latter.

But YOU were getting worked up about those crappy, rusty wrought iron garden sets which everyone hated. You were definitely trying to defend the indefensible.
waterlego · 01/02/2021 16:52

As if having a rattan garden furniture set is ‘indefensible’. Oh, Jane.

Hardly! I don’t get “worked up” on an online forum!! But on this forum so many users swear shrilly to make their case. It has the polar opposite effect, in fact. They come across as being rattled.

You are one of those people who have to have the last word aren't you?

UnityUnited · 01/02/2021 17:09

I am surprised at the use of a meme.

Janegrey333 · 01/02/2021 17:31

It’s a gif, not a meme.

It's because you're rude to people.

HTH.

I find you a bit fake too.

UnityUnited · 01/02/2021 17:36

Is it? I am too posh to know the difference between a gif and meme Blush

1950swallpaper · 02/02/2021 11:36

@Tellmetruth4

So the OP WAS motivated by jealousy after all. She’s in a rental with a garden she hates but can’t change. Not a surprise though.
How do you know I can't change? Do you have some psychic access to my world? I've got so much dosh I'm in the process of buying a house with cash. Believe me, I can afford tacky plastic furniture. It is not jealousy.

Why be a dick about other people’s choices?

Genuine question.
