AIBU to despise outdoor sofa and coffee table sets?

I don't know why I have taken such a dislike to them. Maybe it is because it is "indoor" furniture but outside. Maybe it is because they are all made out of grey plastic wicker which is not environmentally friendly. Maybe it is because I find them very "show-offy keeping up with the Jones' smug". Maybe it is because I know if I had one, I'd find bringing the cushions in from the rain a pain in the bum. I dunno but I really find them tacky and vulgar. Am I on my own?

Can't imagine spending the whole day slobbing out on one of those metal things. We now have fake grass covering the old patio in the photo. Didn't realise I was so low on the tasteful garden ladder.

The metal antiques are more for show, really. They look too rusty to sit in and not exactly comfortable, as others have said. Pretty, though...

Janegrey333 · 31/01/2021 12:25

...sit on

UnityUnited · 31/01/2021 12:29

Where do you sit then? On the compost heap Confused

TwoZeroTwoZero · 31/01/2021 12:32

I think @Janegrey333 is right. In fact, I'd rather sit on this over that soft, comfortable, cushioned sofa set in my garden any day. I think I'll get rid of my cosy shed and corner sofa unit and install one. Only one mind, can't fill my garden with too much clutter; it's so common don't you know. Dh, the dc and I will have to share it.

@UnityUnited

I can’t imagine my dc, both well over six feet and powerfully (not fat) built, squeezing themselves into those metal chairs. Anybody, male or female, who can sit comfortably in them for an afternoon must be built like a sparrow.
I don't think you're meant to sit comfortably or enjoy yourself. You're meant to perch on firmly clenched buttocks, whilst sipping Earl Grey through pursed lips, surreptitiously casting aspersions over your neighbour's garden.

Alternatively, do as my closest neighbour does, and admire the world from inside your windows, never venturing outdoors.

Do you have a sex pond?

Trampoline?

You’re not even in the game until you’ve one of these. Grin

I would have to check if my tetanus vaccination was up to date before I sat on one of those. The cat may be persuaded to sleep on it if a cushion was provided.

Perhaps your neighbour is shielding.

You’re trying to be funny, I imagine.

I'm actually getting worried that you are my neighbour. The one who hasn't left her house for 3 years, is in her thirties and still lives with her parents. Admittedly, she is so good at "shielding" that lockdown has had absolutely no impact on her life whatsoever.

I don't have any garden furniture of the type you despise though. Not yet, anyway. This spring, I do not intend to caught out by a lack of garden rattan!

What I really want to get is one of these. Does anyone have one? Are they good?

I would love one of those Greenland.

Me too, they look lovely.

That made me laugh more than it should've Grin

@GreenlandTheMovie that looks like a giant onion, I want one, I could hide for hours in there and not worry about the rain.

waterlego · 31/01/2021 15:35

I too want one of those giant onions.

MaelyssQ · 31/01/2021 15:56

Is the onion waterproof? If so I want one and I want it now. I've done Dry January and I deserve it.

I do like those round day beds with canopies and cushions too. Does that make me lower class? I do hope so.

Bluntness100 · 31/01/2021 16:01

I like the idea of the giant onion, but I’d be worried about beasties living in there,,,

Janegrey333 · 31/01/2021 17:25

The one who hasn't left her house for 3 years, is in her thirties and still lives with her parents.

You find that amusing? Wow. She might have a mental health issue, for all you know. Or care.

CorianderBee · 31/01/2021 18:05

🤷‍♀️ I had to find furniture that would fit and my large L shaped grey one with a table cost just £100 in the sale. It does its job, looks decent, and we just pack the cushions into a waterproof storage box next to it.

CorianderBee · 31/01/2021 18:08

[quote Janegrey333]I love those:

That looks like the old tenants left them in the garden and you never bothered to move them so they've just rusted there

Covidcorvid · 31/01/2021 18:13

I love that onion. My bastard cats would use it as a giant scratching post and wreck it.
