Vegan Magnum

Light hearted - AIBU in enjoying a Vegan Almond Magnum?

OH said and I quote ‘what you bought these for, you’re not Vegan’? I was saying you don’t have to be Vegan to enjoy vegan foods (as I do most of the cooking I slip a few veggie and vegan meals in each week).

I’m actively trying to reduce my dairy consumption, not just for animal welfare reasons but also to decrease saturated fats.

It’s not often I have a treat but these Vegan Magnums are a game changer. Utterly delicious and about 30% less calories than the dairy magnum. Being made from pea protein & coconut oil you get some fibre in too.

YABU - Vegans eat Vegans food.

YANBU - Enjoy what you want.

This makes no sense, should you avoid eating grains, fruit or vegetables too since those are 'vegan'?

TheRealHousewife · 28/01/2021 15:31

Oups not a third less calories. I wasn’t comparing like with like weight wise. Sorry. Still worth the swap imho.

Of course you can eat vegan foods, as PP pointed out "meat eaters" don't only eat meat, they eat all the "vegan" foods too

TheRealHousewife · 28/01/2021 15:32

I know @luxxlisbon ... he’s set in ways. He feels anything labelled vegan isn’t for him. He’s had to eat his words though as he agrees they are delicious.

@AryaStarkWolf moderation is my motto. Although I am eating less meat and dairy. I can’t imagine ever going full Vegan or Vegetarian as I do enjoy a nice roast lamb joint, roasted chicken etc.

Also, unless every vegan ever went vegan overnight, I imagine a lot of non-vegans try vegan food to see if they like it and feel ready to introduce more of it to their diet.

If you had one vegan ice cream in the house and ate it knowing you had vegan friends coming over, then your husband might have had a point. But it’s not like there’s a shortage of vegan ice creams and you’re somehow depriving someone who ‘needs’ it.

listsandbudgets · 28/01/2021 15:35

Of course you can. Just because vegans have made a conscious choice to exclude certain food groups from their diet does not mean that you have to do the same.

HollysBush · 28/01/2021 15:36

Vegan magnums are gorgeous I agree. I’ve started using oat/soya milk for everything apart from tea and increasing veggi/vegan foods.

longtompot · 28/01/2021 15:41

My ed isn't vegan and she loves these. She eats them because she is allergic to dairy. I think my only issue with them is how much more they are than normal magnums. If you want to eat them, then eat them.

HollysBush · 28/01/2021 15:42

I often choose vegetarian or vegan foods when out because I like them, ethical and environmental reasons and to try to increase the availability of them. My only dilemma is: what if I take the last vegan sandwich, then an actual vegan comes along and there’s nothing they can eat? But what if no one buys it because they want to leave if for an actual vegan, then it doesn’t get sold and the shopkeeper stops selling them?

I’m thinking about this WAY too much aren’t I 😂

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 28/01/2021 15:47

You can eat whatever you want Confused

but vegan Magnum taste rank

Cocorico22 · 28/01/2021 15:53

Absolute game changer, DD has cows' milk protein allergy and doesn't tolerate dairy... Now we can all enjoy a tasty magnum together, Yanbu Smile 🍦🍦🍦

PattyPan · 28/01/2021 16:05

Those vegan almond magnums are bloody delicious so more fool anyone who writes them off for being vegan! More for those of us in the know Grin

MasterBeth · 28/01/2021 17:19

Meat Magnums are nicer.

VinylDetective · 28/01/2021 17:23

Vegan Magnums are delicious so you’re definitely being reasonable. Be careful with cutting back on dairy though, you need calcium.

I'm not vegan. I am, however, midly lactose intolerant and I can enjoy ice cream without feeling ill for hours thanks to vegan ice cream!

Turnedouttoes · 28/01/2021 17:27

I’m dairy free but definitely not vegan and these are incredible!!
I had to stop adding them to the weekly shop as I was developing a bit of a habit Blush

LaurieFairyCake · 28/01/2021 17:33

I think they taste disgusting Sad

I eat masses of Vegan food and I wanted to like them so much

StrawberrySquash · 28/01/2021 17:40

I voted YANBU, but I do get the logic of why eat the vegan version, because often it is less nice. And a lot of newer vegan food is very processed. So I'd rather eat eat a free range chicken breast than vegan chicken.

Food like apples while suitable for vegans isn't specifically vegan, IYSWIM. So I'm obviously not going to reject apples for being vegan!

I had a vegan Magnum just to try it and was pretty impressed. But looking at Tesco.com they are smaller and more expensive than normal ones so won't regularly buy them.

PattyPan · 28/01/2021 17:41

The most concentrated source of calcium, surprisingly, is sesame seeds! Smile There are plenty of non-dairy sources. I haven’t had milk since I was an infant because I don’t like it, and have never had any issues with calcium.
VinylDetective · 28/01/2021 17:46

Thanks for that @PattyPan. I had no idea. Sesame seeds it is. I don’t like milk either but I have a terrible cheese habit - and still need calcium supplements.

NotFabulousDarling · 28/01/2021 17:49

Those magnums are lush! Also try the Ben and Jerry's Cookies on Cookie Dough when it's on offer. It's amazeballs.

NotFabulousDarling · 28/01/2021 17:50

*Ben and Jerry's Dairy Free Cookies on Cookie Dough, I meant.

SionnachRua · 28/01/2021 17:51
