Vegan Magnum

Light hearted - AIBU in enjoying a Vegan Almond Magnum?

OH said and I quote ‘what you bought these for, you’re not Vegan’? I was saying you don’t have to be Vegan to enjoy vegan foods (as I do most of the cooking I slip a few veggie and vegan meals in each week).

I’m actively trying to reduce my dairy consumption, not just for animal welfare reasons but also to decrease saturated fats.

It’s not often I have a treat but these Vegan Magnums are a game changer. Utterly delicious and about 30% less calories than the dairy magnum. Being made from pea protein & coconut oil you get some fibre in too.

YABU - Vegans eat Vegans food.

YANBU - Enjoy what you want.

Mmm thanks for the tip, I didn’t know they existed

Emmelina · 28/01/2021 21:44

Vegan is a good selling label, but in reality they are also “free from” milk, eggs etc. I have medical issues with digesting dairy, and a “vegan” magnum is my go-to if I want an ice cream when we’re out. They’re lovely!

Emmelina · 28/01/2021 21:47

@Mif4

They are so good. Ive been vegan 4 years and they are a game changer. Annoying tho that vegan alternatives are always a bit pricier and dont get discounted as often as the meat/dairy alternatives. I think they are only £2 in Iceland atm tho 😁😁 Oh and apparently there is now a salted caramel version !
Salted caramel!! Oh my gosh. Thank you. Guess where I’m stopping on my way home from work tomorrow!
TheBuffster · 28/01/2021 21:50

Vegans are used to the good vegan food running out in January.
We'd rather you tried the vegan products than not. Especially as the next year the supermarkets might get more accordingly.
Wish they did caramel vegan magnum though.

TheBuffster · 28/01/2021 21:51

Shut the front door. Salted caramel veganShock

TheRealHousewife · 29/01/2021 01:03

Good point re:- calcium @VinylDetective! So important.

Yes fantastic for people/children with dairy allergies @Cocorico22. 👍

Yes really @TheBuffster ... great user name by the way 😬

@NotFabulousDarling is the B & J vegan/ dairy free?

@PattyPan I didn’t realise sesame seeds contained calcium . Thank you 🙏

@LaurieFairyCake sorry to hear that. I wonder if we taste foods differently because I can’t really tell the difference. Not that I’ve had many original Magnums.

I’m trying Carrot Fritters tomorrow FODMAP friendly, vegan, gluten free etc. I’ll have to pimp them up with chilli and seasoning but I’m sure they’ll be tasty ... but not as tasty as Magnums 😬

if enough people eat vegan ice cream to make it profitable then more of it will be made. win for vegans too.

rosiejaune · 29/01/2021 02:45

@VinylDetective

Vegan Magnums are delicious so you’re definitely being reasonable. Be careful with cutting back on dairy though, you need calcium.
Well you certainly don't need to get that calcium from cow's milk...unless you are a calf, but then I imagine you would have trouble typing with your hooves.
vincettenoir · 29/01/2021 06:24

They’re lush

BorisandHarriet · 29/01/2021 06:27

Those magnums are amazing. I can’t buy them though as last time I ate all three within about 36 hours.

Ostryga · 29/01/2021 06:31

I am loving the uptick in vegan food. Not personally vegan, but like to limit my meat/dairy consumption if I can.

Richmond meat free sausages are a game changer. The meat ones were my (very!) guilty pleasure, and the vegan ones taste the exact same, just minus the meat slurry. Hooked!

InsanityRocks · 29/01/2021 06:32

Good sources of calcium are broccoli and other green leafy veg - but not spinach. No need to drink milk intended for baby calves.

PeggyHill · 29/01/2021 06:34

I don't understand his logic. I think you'd be really hard pressed to find a human carnivore. I'm not sure they'd live for very long. Most people are omnivores so yes, of course they eat some of the same foods as a herbivore. A food item which happens to not contain any meat or dairy is not inedible to the general population.

YouWontBelieveYourEyes · 29/01/2021 06:35

One of my DC is dairy free so these are brilliant! They also do plain chocolate and salted caramel flavours.

Inpersuitofhappiness · 29/01/2021 06:41

Ooh ill give these a go =)

Ps, if you're after something sweet, vegan and yummy pizza hut cheesecake, its gorgeous! And its the first vegan thing I've ever eaten and not known wasn't iyswim

TibetanTerrier · 29/01/2021 06:53

Don't be ridiculous, there are hundreds of non-dairy, non-animal foods that provide the necessary calcium.

I ate all three as I was unpacking the rest of the shopping 😳
derxa · 29/01/2021 07:00

@HollysBush

Vegan magnums are gorgeous I agree. I’ve started using oat/soya milk for everything apart from tea and increasing veggi/vegan foods.
www.theguardian.com/food/2020/sep/01/oatly-vegan-milk-sale-blackstone These are vitamin drinks and not milk.
Mummadeze · 29/01/2021 07:58

I have a vegan magnum every day (not exaggerating). The caramel and sea salt ones are equally delicious as the almond so I alternate. Ridiculous comment from your OH.

Mummadeze · 29/01/2021 07:59

Also the new Wicked double chocolate vegan cookies in the bakery from Tesco

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 29/01/2021 09:21

I am amazed how popular the vegan magnum are on MN. We bought some for a friend, but the rest ended up in the bin as no one likes them here.

TwelvePaws · 29/01/2021 09:31

They’re really nice as is the Ben and Jerry’s vegan stuff. Definitely worth the money.

Ginfordinner · 29/01/2021 09:39

I really rate Swedish Glace ice cream. It has been around for years.

I'm not sure about eating the vegan magnum as I have IBS and don't need the extra fibre. One packet of pea protein crisps gave me terrible diarrhoea.

CorianderBee · 29/01/2021 09:56

We're veggie but many of our meat eater friends enjoy vegan options. People have this weird idea they're made of scary lab made chemicals and shit. While some may have that in them so do non vegan food.

Eat what you want.

Splodgetastic · 29/01/2021 09:58

Are you sure there is less saturated fat in those? I thought they used coconut oil.
