AIBU to think women should not be banned from Social media for asking the question

Angryresister · 27/01/2021 09:13

Many women have been suspended from sm for asking the question:
“Do you believe that male sexed people should be allowed access to changing rooms and showers for female sexed people and teenagers?”
Seems like a perfectly reasonable question which we should be allowed to ask

Prisons and hospital wards are already single gender rather than single-sex.

And given that nobody can define gender or gender identity, it seems a bit odd to me.

Twistiesandshout · 27/01/2021 18:15

@Jetatyeovilaerodrome

Quick, we mustnt allow women to be seen talking perfect sense on the most popular board on Mumsnet! Hide it in FWR!
Very disappointing this was moved.
littlbrowndog · 27/01/2021 18:16

It’s dehumanising for women and girls to be called by parts of their bodies like they are not really human

Menstruators, birth person, bleeder, cervix owner

🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

@Winesalot

My natural instinct was to write off Alex Drummond as an outlier - you can find anyone who does anything on the internet - but both Alex Drummond and Pips Bunce have advised or represented LGBT organisations like Stonewall. They aren’t on the fringe.

And I think there is one similar (ie. either presents with beard etc, or does identifies in or out of being a woman like Bunce) in Scottish politics if I remember correctly. Which is fine except they are there as women, not as a male.

teddy hope, SNP, but I think Teddy just left.
lifeturnsonadime · 27/01/2021 18:17

and Emelia Decaudin makes no attempt to hide 'her' masculinity, especially when s(he) suggested that Terfs and Truscum could suck her girldick on twitter. It's almost as if s(he's) laughing at Eleanor Roosevelt.

Winesalot · 27/01/2021 18:18

@Glinner

Saw this thread on Twitter which gave me hope twitter.com/MissAnthrope18/status/1354356886074699776?s=20

"A couple of days ago I commented on a @KatyMontgomerie
tweet about AidanC linking some violent tweets with Helen Staniland and which I though was misleading. Tbh I’d never really read much about HS but found her constant penis tweets a bit irritating.

HS saw my tweet and thanked me for standing up for her (which I wasn’t, really, just though AidanC was being unfair). I thought that was uncharacteristically nice of her and started looking through her timeline. Yeah, she asked the same question a lot but it was a decent question that no one ever answered in good faith.

The only penis talk I could see was her just repeating the question, not asking for genital inspections etc as I had been led to believe. Her arguments seemed genuinely well meaning, if differing from my own viewpoint.

She was then permanently suspended from Twitter yesterday much to the absolute glee of many people I previously considered to be fairly decent moral compasses. I find any crowing about silencing anyone distasteful at the best of times but this was just downright nasty - mocking her appearance and openly saying she is a sexual deviant. I completely believe that trans women are women. I’m not going to change that view point. But w to #TheStanilandQuestion I’d have to say ‘No’ and I’d be seriously concerned about anyone who answers otherwise."

Thanks for posting this Glinner.

Despite this prisons adopted it anyway.

Course it inevitably lead to problems. Like in Ireland where a transgender inmate was admitted to a womens prison. Now the make officers cant search anyone who says they are a woman .

Female officers cant search in tact male people.

So the prisoner went without a proper search.

This could have resulted in injury or death to staff and /or inmates due to weapons or drugs.

Whatever your stance surely safety is paramount. Those staff would have been liable for an incident

Angryresister · 27/01/2021 18:20

Well, I have been out most of the day and missed the thread being moved and moved back. But I am concerned that this was done for any reason. Why was my OP so terrible for the AIBU board? Why is the poll gone? Because it showed last time I looked that there were 90% thinking I was not being unreasonable on a thread talking about how women are silenced? I would like to see the poll back... why can’t it be done? Maybe I should try it again. Good to see so many AIBU posters engaging with the topic though. Thank you for your support.

No, not Teddy who is non-binary. I thought it was a councillor. Someone named in Maya's case, perhaps.

Winesalot · 27/01/2021 18:23

I remember Emily telling trusc*m (I truly hate that word) to suck on their girldick. A truly professional way for an elected official (or someone running for office) to act.

You're thinking of this person.

SpiderGwen · 27/01/2021 18:32

Thanks for an interesting and robust discussion, everyone. Shame about the poll vanishing.

@Fembot123, thanks for engaging openly and in good faith. I do appreciate it. There are people here who have been campaigning and debating this for years who are regularly confronted by disingenuous or goading posters. It’s exhausting. That can make it easy to assume people are up to speed and are being faux naïve.

Most of us started from a similar position as you but as we realised the sheer scale of language, policy and roll-back of rights Stonewall and extreme trans rights activists were attempting, we objected.

Mumsnet has been an invaluable source of well informed and inspiring people. I’m grateful every day for it and them.

No problem, it has been very interesting and informative ☺️

And whoever reported me.
You should be ashamed of yourself.

Fembot123 · 27/01/2021 18:43

It wasn’t me 😊

Smileyaxolotl1 · 27/01/2021 18:44

Fembot123
I didn’t think it was.
You have been courteous throughout.

JoodyBlue · 27/01/2021 18:47

btw the feminist chat board on mumsnet is one of the most supportive and informative forums I've found for discussing and exploring these issues, sometimes they go off tangent, but they are carefully monitored to disallow transphobia - it is perhaps fitting that Mumsnet, the place many of us joined for support when we had a first baby could become 10 years on from its inception one of the few public forums to allow discussion on what a woman is.

JoodyBlue · 27/01/2021 18:48

Do you think it’s transphobic to say a bearded man is a bearded man?

And, indeed, particularly “kind”.

Thank you. That is exactly who I was thinking of. They may not be quite like Bunce but they do seem to fit the other person's profile.

Smiley I did notice that. It is why I am careful at the moment, don't want to add to my strikes.

Thewithesarehere · 27/01/2021 18:53

I have no doubt in my mind that the TWAW shite is going to lead to some of the biggest lawsuits in in history eventually.
The tide is turning so fast.
