McDonald’s Fillet O Fish (Light Hearted)

134 replies

FilletOFish · 13/01/2021 12:42

Just got myself a Fillet O Fish from McDonald’s (Drive Thru obviously). It comes with half a slice of cheese as standard - that’s a whole other issue! I want more than half a slice of cheese on my Fillet O Fish so I ask for an extra cheese slice, it costs an extra 20p. When I get my Fillet it has just one full slice of cheese! Yes, there is ‘extra’ cheese but AIBU to think if I’ve paid for an extra slice of cheese my Fillet should contain one and a half slices?

Background information: This isn’t a one off, it happens every time I order a Fillet O Fish which is my favourite McDonald’s order. I do go to McDonald’s on a relatively regular basis as my child has ASD. He is very underweight as he has no appetite but can often be tempted to eat most of a cheeseburger.

This thread has properly kiboshed my diet. I've been craving a Maccas all afternoon now.

Must not give in.

Sorka · 13/01/2021 15:39

I once got given someone else’s order at a train station. It had taken so long I took it and ran to my train without checking inside. I was very disappointed with my surprise horrible tasteless veggie burger covered in burn-your-mouth hot sauce, but probably not as disappointed as the vegetarian with my chicken nuggets.

Sorka · 13/01/2021 15:42

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

I don't think you can say you only got half a slice of cheese unless there are some legally defined dimensions for one, but even if there were I expect that they are no longer valid because of Brexit. Sad
Seriously? Do you really have to bring down a cheerful thread about burgers with your pessimistic doom and gloom?
TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/01/2021 15:52

@Sorka on the plus side I think we can be sure that at least its our fish Smile

OP, you don't have to justify why you were in McDonald's! Most people love them although a lot on MN would pretend they hate them/have never tried one/or would be just too full after a sip of milkshake and two fries.

As for the Fillet O Fish, I love them but why are they so expensive for the size of them? I could easily eat one while I'm waiting for my Quarterpounder meal. I'm always surprised they're not 99pm like the normal cheeseburgers.

God, I'm desperate for a McDonald's now... Envy

TheCanyon · 13/01/2021 16:09

I'm not keen on fish and therefore have never tried one of these, but who knew they put cheese on them?! Not me that's for sure

icelollycraving · 13/01/2021 16:20

A fillet of fish for my wife Grin

MoreMorelos · 13/01/2021 16:34

@Frangipaniflower

My daughter's friend used to work in Macdonalds and he said they actually have to tear the piece of cheese in half.
I can confirm this is true!

Also extra cheese on a "fillay" is one whole slice

Wait. You’re all getting a full half slice? Looks more like 1/3 around these parts - not paying for more cheese is not an option. Not sure how much extra is as I’ve not checked, but it qualifies as sufficient. Whereas the standard skinny strip is most definitely not.

I don’t know what to make of the revelation that the half rather than whole slice is intentional. I thought they were just getting stingier over time and we’ll be down to 1/4 soon.

It's not an exact science, when you put the cheese on you just grab a slice and rip it in half. Asking for extra is always an option.
SomewhatBored · 13/01/2021 17:09

Just take your own processed cheese slices and put one on in the future.

@JazzyGeoff

They've not been subcontracted out to Chartwells have they?
😀 My dh used to call them ' fish Macs ' !
WestendVBroadway · 13/01/2021 17:22

@icelollycraving I remember that from the old advert. I absolutely love a 'fillay ' , but never realised it only had a half slice of cheese. I usually devour it straight away without checking in the bun!

Reiningitin · 13/01/2021 17:24

I wonder what fish it actually is. Not had one for years but properly fancying one now.

OllyBJolly · 13/01/2021 17:24

You can add lettuce! You can also add, tomatoes, onion, pickles, bacon

I did not know this. Thank you Flowers (I can do without the plastic cheese!)

Tallesttiptoes · 13/01/2021 17:27

@SummerHouse DH relentlessly mocks me for saying ‘fillay of fish’ but I persist!

JohnBarron · 13/01/2021 17:28

Our local MacDonalds gets our order wrong every time. Last time DH went, the server had an argument with him about which sauces he had ordered and then threw the correct ones through the window at him. Hmm

I did complain and got sent a voucher which can’t be used on the app 🤷🏻‍♀️

Chuckleknuckles · 13/01/2021 17:28

I’d mention it. If you’re paying 20p for an extra slice you should point it out.
If they say that there is a slide contained therein, I’d be asking if you hadn’t asked for an extra cheese slice how much cheese should be in the burger. And then ask them where that piece is? Or message them on foodforthought.com or whatever their feedback email is.

I think it's "white fish" so chances are it's pollock.
ChickRatHat · 13/01/2021 17:35

SummerHouse please tell me what your (mispronounced) middle name is.
*asking for an insomniac

I agree with a pp that paying for ‘extra‘ would mean that you‘d get twice as much as a ‘standard’ serving. So if one portion = half, one additional portion would be another half. HOWEVER, it is beyond tight that they only give a half slice anyway so OP, you should get two FULL sized slices imho.

Thecherryontheverytop · 13/01/2021 17:36

I do this every single time and I'm so annoyed every single time that it doesn't have a full extra slice.
Love a filet, it'd the best thing kn the menu

Thecherryontheverytop · 13/01/2021 17:38

Oh and by the way, when I've been travelling, I noticed in some European and Asian countries they do double fillays Grin now they are amazing
