McDonald’s Fillet O Fish (Light Hearted)

FilletOFish · 13/01/2021 12:42

Just got myself a Fillet O Fish from McDonald’s (Drive Thru obviously). It comes with half a slice of cheese as standard - that’s a whole other issue! I want more than half a slice of cheese on my Fillet O Fish so I ask for an extra cheese slice, it costs an extra 20p. When I get my Fillet it has just one full slice of cheese! Yes, there is ‘extra’ cheese but AIBU to think if I’ve paid for an extra slice of cheese my Fillet should contain one and a half slices?

Background information: This isn’t a one off, it happens every time I order a Fillet O Fish which is my favourite McDonald’s order. I do go to McDonald’s on a relatively regular basis as my child has ASD. He is very underweight as he has no appetite but can often be tempted to eat most of a cheeseburger.

RIP to the Burger King Fish Royale, far superior and a sad loss.

tttigress · 13/01/2021 13:57

Funnily enough I had a fillet o fish for the first time the other week, not my favourite thing on the menu tbh.

I often order extra cheese on the burgers, feels like they are cutting corners on the amount of cheese they give.

RE McDonalds screwing up orders, I ordered Vs mcveggie (or whatever it is called) once and received the veggie bun and salad, with a chicken burger inside, took s bite as i wasn't familiar with the mcveggie, it was only then I realised the mistake.

NB im not a vegetarian

greensnail · 13/01/2021 13:57

I love a fillet o fish, but it is so overpriced. Should definitely be a saver menu item.

tttigress · 13/01/2021 14:00

@bellyislikejelly

If you order on the app you can pretty much add / remove anything to anything! 🤤
Must admit, one reason I like using the touch screen machines, is that you can customise be to your heart's content, not so easy at the counter.
Wotsitsarecheesy · 13/01/2021 14:03

I also love a fillet o fish, but haven't had one for ages now, as our mcdonalds always cooks them to order, and I have to sit in the car waiting for 10 mins if I want one.

A PP mentioned they used to hav one after clubbing - I used to have them before clubbing in the 80s. Finish sixth form, then go to work my part time retail job in town from 5-8pm. Then have fillet o fish and change in the mcdonalds loos before meeting my friends for a night on the town. Did this every week while doing A levels. Happy memories!

Figmentofimagination · 13/01/2021 14:08

Maccy's have gone down in my opinion lately. I can deal with the fact they give me a book instead of a toy in my DS's happy meal, but when I want to be greedy and I order 2 burgers for delivery how dare they only send me 1!

BarbaraofSeville · 13/01/2021 14:17

It comes with half a slice of fish because that's what the person who invented it wanted (possibly the man who started McDonalds or someone of similar standing).

It's not something I could get worked up about TBH, I don't like the cheese they use, so as little of it as possible. If I get a breakfast, which I won't at the moment as I only like the breakfast wrap, or sausage bagel, because they're not doing them now, I ask for them without cheese, you can have mine if you like, I must have paid for hundreds of cheese slices that I've not had.

I only ever get a fish fillet at non breakfast times and agree that it's a little expensive compared with the other things, but fish is expensive.

Everything is cooked to order now and they come much quicker than they used to, nearly as fast as everything else.

sweetleftfoot · 13/01/2021 14:23

It's always annoyed me that a fillet o fish meal is as expensive as the other meals when the burger is so much smaller! In France we discovered you can get a double Fillet o Fish burger Grin

And to the point of the thread yes I think you should get 1.5 slices of cheese

ForTheLoveOfCatFood · 13/01/2021 14:28

I was ready to say YABU purely because you have cheese with a fillet o fish... but I can see that is in fact acceptable reading the posts Grin

On that basis YANBU I would expect 1 1/2 slices if paying for extra cheese

Could you ask for it separately next time?

HostessTrolley · 13/01/2021 14:30

Oohhhh - I’m guessing jumping in the car to go get a fillet o fish with lettuce and pickle wouldn't class as an essential journey though 😂

SummerHouse · 13/01/2021 14:30

Can I just check - do we pronounce this Fill-ay o fish? Just doubting myself as learnt on here that I have pronounced my middle name wrong all my life.

JaneJeffer · 13/01/2021 14:42

I just ask for a fish burger because I can't bear saying the stupid name!

Ahhh @SummerHouse you've reminded me of this classic Jack Dee sketch on McDonald's & how to pronounce it... showing my age!
Pesimistic · 13/01/2021 15:01

What I've never understood stood about the fillet of fish us that it come with no salad as standard ! So much nicer with salad in it

TheVanguardSix · 13/01/2021 15:04

I've never had a fillet o fish

And you consider yours a life worth living??? Grin
This is the knife-edge/freefall into the abyss you're missing out on!
Live large... and ask for pickles when you do!

TheVanguardSix · 13/01/2021 15:07

DH and I argue about this every time I order one.
I'm American. It's fill-ay o fish.
He's from here. It's fill-ett o fish.
Ny-keee trainers.
Nyk trainers.
Aloom-i-num
Allo-min-ee-um (though I grew up with two European parents who baffled me with this pronunciation during my Californian childhood. I'm a mess).

It's exhausting trying to keep up with your Queen's English these past 25 years! And I still haven't nailed it. Grin

MAK93 · 13/01/2021 15:10

I’m shocked how many people order it!

DF & I always thought it was a joke 🙃

I’d try it but how do you say no to a McDonalds double cheese burger 🤤

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/01/2021 15:11

I don't think you can say you only got half a slice of cheese unless there are some legally defined dimensions for one, but even if there were I expect that they are no longer valid because of Brexit. Sad

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 13/01/2021 15:11

@AtLeastThreeDrinks

YOU CAN ADD PICKLES?! This is the best news I've had all year.
I know right?! This is literally life changing! I love a Fillet but always felt it was lacking something and I think that something may be pickles...

However, why are pickles, lettuce, onion and the sauces free but you have to pay for tomato?

And yes, OP, you should definitely be getting a whole extra slice of cheese.

@TheVanguardSix

I love how American people pronounce aluminium, for a while I thought it was something different all together 😂

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 13/01/2021 15:13

DS1 loves a fillet o fish. He just calls it a fish burger though for fear of getting it wrong. He also adds mayo and ketchup. Even though it already has tartar sauce.

Iheartmysmart · 13/01/2021 15:18

Oh not fair! Sat outside a supermarket waiting to pick DS up from work and there is a McDonald’s next door. He’s a judgemental little sod and will accuse me of destroying the planet if I have one.

Frangipaniflower · 13/01/2021 15:18

My daughter's friend used to work in Macdonalds and he said they actually have to tear the piece of cheese in half.
