Group on FB

So I joined a group of women on FB. To support each other during lockdown and generally have a chat and a nice time online. Ater a week or so the admin changed a photo of the group to one with 5 women holding hands, the pic was taken from back, so no faces. IT was a painting or so from 50's I think or could've been done in retro style. I pointed out that the picture was not inclusive as it was only showing white women and didn't have other women of colour or ethnic minorities. I got a lot of abuse back. Was I wrong? I am a bit shocked and disheartened that in 2021 I had to raise this and no one really was bothered and nearly all the women asked me to shut up and not talk about it

You expected volunteer admins to spend ages searching for a picture that was more inclusive? Or did you want them to photoshop the current picture? It’s just a profile pic on a group.

It's a profile picture on a Facebook group. How much does it actually matter?

There are plenty of pic that others posted, but the admin chose a photos with all white women. My issue is that its not inclusive and a true representation of the group thats all.

Set up another FB group yourself?

I agree with you op. It DOES matter and good for you for raising it. The only thing I guess you could have done is suggested another picture instead, I expect admining these groups can feel a bit thankless at times so it would have saved them a job.

@ CardoMondo I wouldn't be a part of it anyway, that doesn't make it right in 2021 to not be inclusive does it

Well she's basically being told to shut up and not talk about it on this thread so I wouldn't be at all surprised if that's what happened.

What "abuse" did you get back? People disagreeing with you or being annoyed with something you've done isn't abuse.

@yellowmaoampinball there were other photos suggested, but this was the one chosen. Other women dont seem to think there is anything wrong in todays age to just exclude other women from ethnic minorities

No they don't do they? Sad really. Such a small thing that would make all the difference to people feeling included.

Theyre volunteers running a fb group, perhaps instead of criticising you could have just sent them an image of a nice beige rectactangle to upload instead.

@Lemonpiano that I am making a mountain out of a molehill, that I need to shut up, that I am finding a reason to create an issue, that I like drama.
I dont like drama!!
I however do have an issue where I and women of colour are seemingly meant to just be in the background and not be seen. All I asked for was, an inclusive photo showing the diversity of the group.
