Ok so I just randomly came across this on prime video. I used to watch this show when I was at uni and had lots of free time .

It is vile and fat shaming , Gillian McKeith just went round a town centre feeling women's bottoms , staring at them , judging them telling one woman it was like dough! Looking horrified . Then got a load of women into a building and got them to take their knickers off so she could judge them! Calling them the flabby bottom parade !

What really stood out for me was she did not stop any men in the town centre and no men in the take your knickers off stage !

Did anyone watch this and AIBU to think this was all in very bad taste ?

Wonder how many tupperware tubs of shite GM has in her freezer.

Viviennemary · 09/01/2021 22:21

Gillian Mckeith wasn't the Supersize v Superskinny. Her programme was You are What you eat. Which was rubbish. She looked less healthy than any of the fatties on the show. Supersize v Superskinny was a lot more entertaining.

TrialOfStyle · 09/01/2021 22:24

I have tuned in to the same episode after reading this thread.

Where do you get one of those horse riding machines (asking for a friend)?

Jus' sayin'. (I know we're not supposed to criticise other women's appearance, but really???)
@StElsewhere
I go from thread to thread fat shaming people?

Clearly me saying that no average woman should be eating as much as her average husband hit a nerve for you to remember so much.

Being fat is not healthy. Fat shaming is not a thing. Being a spiteful person and doing mean things intending to make someone feel down and insecure IS a thing. Nothing to do with being fat.

Now jog on! ( if u can Wink )
I didn't see that thread. But I can tell you based on this comment that you're talking shit.
I eat the same, and sometimes bigger, portion sizes as my husband. I'm 5'0 and a size 6. He's 6'2 and an average size for his height. Not skinny, not overweight, broad shoulders.

Those portion sizes are at dinner time. I also have a huge (healthy) breakfast, a big snack mid morning, decent sized lunch and an afternoon snack too. He's more a two meals a day man. It's a running joke how much I eat.
So I do eat as much (in one meal) as him. Over the course of the day, significantly more. I don't have an eating disorder, just a fast metabolism.

And your parting sentence tells us all exactly what sort of person you are.

Feedingthebirds1 · 09/01/2021 22:28

The article above ^^ says that her daughters are responsible for her changing approach to dressing. On that evidence they must hate her.

Emeraldshamrock · 09/01/2021 22:29

The shit in the box was vile or the shock but pp is right "it was you are what you eat" funny when the weeks food was piled up on the table.
Doctor Christian presented SS vs SS it was a cruel program the slimmer person playing with the food while the larger person watched.

MyGazeboisLeaking · 09/01/2021 22:31

Brilliant, @alittleprivacy - wish I'd seen that.

What a Wally that woman was.

tempnamechange98765 · 09/01/2021 22:32

Yes this show was so bad but I loved it! I loved the bit at the start where they'd fill the big clear tubes up with what each person ate, it was all so ridiculous as it would be "Jane (the overweight person) eats sandwiches for lunch".
And then a whole loaf of bread would be dropped in the tube. "Pam (the underweight one) has toast." Half a piece of bread would go in. So dramatised but it was the trash I like!

sociallydistained · 09/01/2021 22:34

My favourite is secret eaters! That’s me 💯 except their level of denial amazes me!

Backbee · 09/01/2021 22:34

No more boring than "How to eat well for less"

Noooo that's fab.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 09/01/2021 22:37

I love how to. Eat well for less. It’s always fasc

I agree. I really enjoy eat well for less. But I'd also enjoy SS vs SS made in a more educational way, including seeing them eat a "proper diet" for a few days.
schmockdown · 09/01/2021 22:43

It was if it's time, I liked it as a fat student. You can't #cancel every bloody thing that went before.

Yoshinori · 09/01/2021 22:47

@EggyPegg

Let's take you on your word, taking the average of a healthy weight range, 184 pounds.
I have estimated you and your husband to be lets say 35.
To maintain this weight, sedentary, he would need to consume 2,207 calories a day.

On average a size 6 person is between 110 and 140 pounds depending on height. You say your 5'0 so let's go on the medium to low side and go with 120 pounds. To maintain your weight you would need 1,393 calories.

Thereby, there is no way you eat the same or EVEN BIGGER portions as your 6'2 husband and stay the same weight.

People's metabolism can range but the idea a super high metabolism can make up for eating so much as you claim is absolutely silly.

Either you have some how managed to break science or you have a surprise the next time you weigh yourself. Its silly how people make up science for the sake of it.

Emeraldshamrock · 09/01/2021 22:50

It is crazy how Gillian advertised herself as healthy especially after celebrity jungle stint.

HouseofBrieandBanter · 09/01/2021 22:51

Why does it bother you so much though?

TopBants · 09/01/2021 22:58

Clearly me saying that no average woman should be eating as much as her average husband hit a nerve for you to remember so much.

I wouldn't say no woman. A breastfeeding woman, for example, needs to consume 450-500 calories more, putting her needs at 2,500- on par with an average male.

Mreggsworth · 09/01/2021 22:59

I wouldn't say I'm outraged. I'm prone to disordered eating and when I'm particularly triggered I watch programmes like this and supersize vs super skinny. Though don't think this is an issue with the programme more an issue with me!

RecipeStealingBitch · 09/01/2021 23:01

I was once so hungry after seeing what someone ate on Supersize VS Superskinny that I went to the chippy to replicate it - it was chip shop chips covered in beans and lots of grated cheddar 😂

I used to love all those shows, they suddenly seemed to stop about 2013 (or become less popular anyway)

In fairness, she looks in decent shape and her daughters are a healthy weight. The clothes on the other hand....

Really? I find it just an average programme. The unhealthiness or overspending of the participants is obviously exaggerated and then the new things suggested aren't particularly healthy either.
DimidDavilby · 09/01/2021 23:08

@Yoshinori give it a rest mate you're just proving everyone's point.

thenightsky · 09/01/2021 23:17

supersize -v- superskinny used to follow the participants up a month or two later. The supersizer had always lost about 2 stone, but the superskinny got lots of praise for gaining 2lb, so they clearly hadn't addressed their eating disorder.

Cash02 · 09/01/2021 23:20

Personally as someone who’s obese...I really love the show! I enjoyed it when I was a kid and I enjoy it now, rewatch it all the time, I find it quite motivating now that I’ve worked through my mental issues regarding my weight. I think fat shaming is real, but I don’t agree with fat acceptance at the same time.
It’s hardly misogynistic, they have plenty of men on there.
What about skinny shaming? Or does that not exist? It’s supersize vs superskinny.
It’s an old show that they wouldn’t dare reboot, it’s a bit harsh but quite honestly there needs to be harsh discussions around the current weight issues in the UK.
Those people applied to the show, they weren’t forced to be on there, and quite frankly if it was still airing I would apply!
