To want to go to Markies for picky bits

Agirlnamedsam · 09/01/2021 14:15

I’ve not been in a shop since the beginning of December. Been wfh and only been out to go to the park with DS or go for a walk.

We have been using Tesco click and collect, but I want to go to Markies and get some picky bits / afternoon tea for lunch tomorrow.

DH thinks I’m being a bit silly as it’s not necessary travel: and that we should be avoiding shops. He’s happy for us to get something delivered or to collect something. But I’m just a bit fed up and want to go and select some nice bits and pieces.

@Literallynoidea

This thread title makes me WINCE.

Who speaks like this!

PLENTY of people if you’d bothered your arse to read the thread. Almost the whole of Scotland know it as Markies, especially the whole North East of Scotland. Idiots like you make me wince.
IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 10/01/2021 13:57

Good god OP, you typed a word that isn't 'acceptable' to @Janegrey333

How could you?

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 10/01/2021 13:58

Where I am it's
Marks's
marks'
Emeness
Marks and Spencer.

I went yesterday late afternoon OP bought lots of lovely things and no vipers it wasn't a weekly shop. I have fortnightly click and collect or delivery whichever is available, so need a top up shop between. I've had to work face to face with the public throughout this largely with no PPE, so people who've been furloughed 'living their best life' for insta likes and banging pots on doorsteps and baking sour dough, can fuck off if they think they can tell me not to. I even went into Boots for a prescription while I was in town and got myself some fancy bubble bath.

Enjoy OP.

@Literallynoidea Who speaks like this? Plenty. But as your user name suggests, you literally have no idea !

ohsuzannah · 10/01/2021 14:29

M&S... buffet style food!

Agirlnamedsam · 10/01/2021 14:42

@ohsuzannah, Markies is what we use regionally, so I’ll stick to that. Buffet style food is a good replacement for picky bits

My Granny called it Marks and Sparks so I've always found it endearing. Not heard it called Markies before but who are we to judge.
We've got precious little to look forward to at the moment. Buying food in a supermarket does not sound like a contravention of the rules . . .. go, enjoy picky-bits (I'm suggesting the two words should be hyphenated - no?).

user1498572889 · 10/01/2021 15:06

@Agirlnamedsam
I had to go M&S for picky bits today.

scentedgeranium · 10/01/2021 15:08

Early on when I joined MN I inadvertently labelled by DH as my hubby. I have never called him hubby in real life but thought hey it's probably the kind of light frothy term that is used in MN. WRONG!!!! I immediately got jumped on by the MN Terminology Police. I was naff. I was twee. It was downright UNACCEPTABLE.
So I now use the approved term if DH
But it makes me cringe, as do all the other initials.
And I name changed shortly afterwards!
Rebel OP. Keep using your picky bits and your Markies!

midnightstar66 · 10/01/2021 15:58

Marks and Sparks would probably have been mocked too but even m&s embrace that nn on account that their loyalty card is called the sparks card.

Goingdooolally · 10/01/2021 16:00

Markies is so twee and smug sounding! And I’m Scottish.

I also thought this title was a wind up. Speak like grown ups!!!! 😱😁

isadorapolly · 10/01/2021 16:01

I went to m&s on Friday to get random bits, I actually went in to get something for lunch and some milk, walked out having spent £60 on sweets, chocolate, bakery stuff and lots of crisps and sushi. And no bastard milk. I’ve come to the conclusion the chocolate from m&s is shit so I’m not going there again. (I say this every time and forget).

Goingdooolally · 10/01/2021 16:04

My god OP @Agirlnamedsam I take it all back - you are definitely not twee. Those insults are brilliant. 💗Grin

Why even ask on here? You are an adult, you can make your own decisions.

Agirlnamedsam · 10/01/2021 16:35

@Paisley2018, why does anyone ask anything on here? They want to know if they’re being unreasonable or not. Did you get mixed up with the moany moos board?

You sound like a feminist.

Funkypolar · 10/01/2021 17:04

I went to M&S yesterday and sent DH to Sainsburys today. No doubt somebody reading this will be “sobbing and shaking” over that.

VinylDetective · 10/01/2021 17:07

Is that supposed to be an insult @Janegrey333? What’s your problem with feminists?

Agirlnamedsam · 10/01/2021 17:09

@VinylDetective. I think she was being sarcastic.

@Janegrey333, yes, actually I am, how observant
