To want to go to Markies for picky bits

Agirlnamedsam · 09/01/2021 14:15

I’ve not been in a shop since the beginning of December. Been wfh and only been out to go to the park with DS or go for a walk.

We have been using Tesco click and collect, but I want to go to Markies and get some picky bits / afternoon tea for lunch tomorrow.

DH thinks I’m being a bit silly as it’s not necessary travel: and that we should be avoiding shops. He’s happy for us to get something delivered or to collect something. But I’m just a bit fed up and want to go and select some nice bits and pieces.

@FortunesFave well I’m from Glasgow and the correct phrase is “get tae fuck”

Wow, the snobbery on here! I’ve never heard it called Markies but was really obvious to me what OP was referring to and even if it wasn’t I could have just asked her.

Also for what it’s worth, as long as you’re being careful I see no problem with popping into a large retailer who should have safety measures in place to buy food you fancy eating.

midnightstar66 · 10/01/2021 09:07

I don't actually know a soul that gets their full weekly shop for M&S, in fact a good amount near us are small food halls a bit like Tesco express, or hooked on to garages so their sole purpose is for top up shops.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 10/01/2021 09:15

Hi OP - 22 pages! Wow this thread is becoming a full time job. Loving get tae Fuck. Apply liberally. Should sort out the rest of the thread! Grin

ZaraW · 10/01/2021 09:25

@Agirlnamedsam

What’s wrong with saying Markies?! It must be a regional thing as I’ve heard loads of people refer to it as Markies
Thankfully I'm not aware of anybody I know using Markies or Picky bits....
Agirlnamedsam · 10/01/2021 09:30

@ZaraW is that because you’re all posh and superior? Awa and bile yer heid ya walloper

@8obbingabout

Wow this is terrible. If your not going to be nice why bother posting anything at all.
Because most of MN users aren’t nice people, sadly.
ZaraW · 10/01/2021 09:33

Enjoy your picky bits OP! Lol

Luckyelephant1 · 10/01/2021 09:35

Why is mumsnet so full of horrible people?

Go to the shop and get what you want OP and enjoy!

HuckfromScandal · 10/01/2021 09:39

@ZaraW. And we are DELIGHTED not to know you either. Have a good day.

Justasecondnow · 10/01/2021 09:41

I call is marksies is that acceptable to mumsnet or am I also on the naughty step?

(Also think OP should have her fancy food)

TheKeatingFive · 10/01/2021 09:44

What a relief, huh? You might die if you did. Shock can kill.

Royalbloo · 10/01/2021 09:45

Yep, go. It's better than going to a massive Asda where there is zero distancing any more (in my experience) and their food is better!

Onesipmore · 10/01/2021 09:50

I cannot believe the sheer snobbery on this thread. Haven't the contributors on 22 pages got anything else to do, other than sit behind their screens making snide comments at the OP. Shame on you. The OP didn't come on here to be picked on by a bunch of cowards!

WilsonMilson · 10/01/2021 09:56

I’ve called it Markies all my life, so don’t know what everyone’s on about!

‘Picky bits’ makes my toes curl for some reason, but other than that YANBU. I’d go. I’m so fed up of being cooped up in doors with only a few walks to go on that it would seem like like an exotic adventure.

Smiledwiththerisingsun · 10/01/2021 09:57

@Agirlnamedsam I'm really quite upset you didn't get your PBs after all this! Please try harder this week love Grin

NCGardener · 10/01/2021 10:00

So many unreasonable people on here with their negativity.

OP. I hope you enjoyed your picky bits

People in my region call it
Marksies
Marks
Or MnS

Oh my god near to us is the best food hall

Its huge!!

And you can get cereal and lentils and stuff from big jar thingies that you decant into your own box and they have pizza and stuff

Its awesome (and always busy)

There’s lots of contributors on 22 pages NOT having a pop
IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 10/01/2021 10:36

It's often Markies in NE Scotland!

Quite the shower of cunts on this thread just pissing themselves laughing at their own 'jokes'.

Mollyboom · 10/01/2021 10:39

You call it what you want hen and enjoy your pickie bits, and of course it's not unreasonable to go out to buy food. Imagine a year ago having to question this. I'm not from your part of the world but have adopted the phrase 'get tae fuck" over recent years as I love it. I'm off to Farm Foods without a mask to buy pot noodles for my hordes of children.

20CMB21 · 10/01/2021 10:41

M&S surely = Masks and Sanitiser?
