To want to go to Markies for picky bits

Agirlnamedsam · 09/01/2021 14:15

I’ve not been in a shop since the beginning of December. Been wfh and only been out to go to the park with DS or go for a walk.

We have been using Tesco click and collect, but I want to go to Markies and get some picky bits / afternoon tea for lunch tomorrow.

DH thinks I’m being a bit silly as it’s not necessary travel: and that we should be avoiding shops. He’s happy for us to get something delivered or to collect something. But I’m just a bit fed up and want to go and select some nice bits and pieces.

If you need some food to eat then you're allowed to go get it. As for the rest of these Karen's up in this bitch, stfu and get back to watching Midsummer Murders.

Pootle40 · 09/01/2021 15:29

Growing up in Edinburgh family always called it Markies.

roarfeckingroarr · 09/01/2021 15:29

You have to be doing some sort of MN bingo.

Markies??!

Picky bits??!

Speak like an adult.

Pootle40 · 09/01/2021 15:30

See this mass hysteria brigade are out targeting this post........OP YOU MURDERER Hmm

HerMammy · 09/01/2021 15:30

@Meepmeeep
We aren’t Aberdeen though 🤣🤣
I was confused as Im originally from Glasgow 🤣

Agirlnamedsam · 09/01/2021 15:31

Fed up as I’m now juggling childcare/ homeschooling with working full time. My son has been greeting and whining for days. I’ve stuck to every fucking rule for nearly a year. Not seen my family for a long time. Seen lots of other people meeting up with multiple people over the holidays. Not judging.

I think that a quick trip to Markies to pick up some picky bits is a minor crime.

But my husband and mumsnet think I’m being unreasonable (but I suspect mumsnet are saying it because of my word choice)

M&S food is available on Ocado , click and collect and Deliveroo round here

BlueSussex · 09/01/2021 15:32

Dear God she said it again Shock

Has anyone reported?

OP - go and purchase your luxury foodstuffs Smile

Bbq1 · 09/01/2021 15:32

Go for it Op. It's food and contrary to some people that would have you purely eating gruel during lockdown, you are allowed to buy treat food. We call it Marksies where I come from but if in ops locality they call it Marksies, so what? We all know what shop she was referring to.
As for picky bits that doesn't bother me either and in fact is a good term as I know exactly what sort of food you're referring to, Op. I don't understand why so many people are pretending to be "offended" by ops question and why other pp are being downright unpleasant to her. Hope you go/have been to the shop, Op. There are more important things to worry about right now than op buying some food. Like people accessing keyworkers places for the their children that they're not entitled to, exams cancelled, people losing their jobs and lives.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 09/01/2021 15:33

You won't find any more Percy pigs there.

Doingitaloneandproud · 09/01/2021 15:33

OP I would go, it's for food, it's irrelevant that you got a delivery slot, if you fancy something else you can go and get it, fuck people will have to start showing inside their fridges next to see if they've still got some leftGrin

DimidDavilby · 09/01/2021 15:33

Am I living in a parallel universe where the pandemic isn't happening?

STAY THE FUCK AT HOME

marshmallowfluffy · 09/01/2021 15:35

I'm down south and I've heard older people call M&S "Marks"
Considering how often I hear "Tescos" or "Asdas" I don't think Markies is outrageous

DimidDavilby · 09/01/2021 15:35

@IAmMeThisIsI

She doesn't need food. You can add all the treats you want to your slot. But you shouldn't go out needlessly spreading the virus.
noteabagsleft · 09/01/2021 15:35

I'm from Scotland and it's markies most people call it where we live. Also picky bits is exactly what I would call it too!
No idea how anyone can possibly have a go about that! Clearly it's a regional thing!

Go and get your picky bits, it's food which is essential. Don't listen to the mumsnet COVID police! Just go!

SusannaSpider · 09/01/2021 15:36

Clearly @SusannaSpider knows that as she didn't put it in quotes grin*

My mother in law uses the word often. I married up.

Our slangs better than yours 😝

dingit · 09/01/2021 15:37

Ha ha ha Rickitarr. I forgot I shared my Birthday with Kate. To be fair I had it first, by quite a few years Grin

Meepmeeep · 09/01/2021 15:39

@DimidDavilby

Maybe they should have additional security on the door to check people’s shopping lists. If mumsnet does not deem it essential you ain’t getting in?
missrks · 09/01/2021 15:39
@kleew1. Yes, I am.

Ok, I get the wrath about possibly spreading the disease, and possibly about saying “picky bits” (I couldn’t decide if nibbles or picky bits is worse): but what’s the deal with the outrage about saying Markies?
❤️

Definitely. As long as you wear a mask and social distance then go for it. Could fair go some cheese/crackers and treats myself! X

SusannaSpider · 09/01/2021 15:40

"Considering how often I hear "Tescos" or "Asdas" I don't think Markies is outrageous"

I'd better not say I'm going to The Asda then 😁

You are all outrageous, I'm now hungry and feeling the need to rifle the freezer for Christmas leftover picky bits.

Meepmeeep · 09/01/2021 15:41

How do you feel about Kenny Mo’s on here? Is that an acceptable variation for a supermarket name?

HairyFloppins · 09/01/2021 15:42

Go and get your stuff OP. I am going out later to get some cider and snacks and bread.

I fancy picky bits now.

RickiTarr · 09/01/2021 15:44

I'd better not say I'm going to The Asda then 😁

She means that saying “Asda” or “Tesco” is correct but she thinks saying “Asda’s” or “Tesco’s” is wrong.

JeezyPeeps · 09/01/2021 15:44

What shoo is Kenny Mo's referring to?
