To think tv is a letdown tonight

Given we're all stuck in surely they could have made a bit more effort to put something decent on tv.

We are fortunate enough to have Sky, Netflix and Prime... all rubbish. Some don't have the choice.

Surely they can do better

youngestisapsycho · 31/12/2020 19:17

I know.... Skyfall ffs!
I’d rather a night of gamehows or quiz show....

QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 31/12/2020 19:18

It is all rubbish. Shameful really

sonjadog · 31/12/2020 19:18

It is terrible tonight! I am visiting my mother and she doesn't have any extra channels and there is just nothing to watch. I am wondering how early I can go to bed tbh...

jomaIone · 31/12/2020 19:19

Pretty difficult to film new stuff with the whole pandemic. It's why I've got prime, and netflix haha

colouringindoors · 31/12/2020 19:19

Totally agree! I'm home alone and ill.... fed up and this is the icing on the cake.

lachy · 31/12/2020 19:20

We're doing a zoom call with some friends, and when that finishes we'll just head off to bed. The TV is rubbish so unless we can find a film worth watching we'll probably be in bed by 11!

nosswith · 31/12/2020 19:20

At the time the schedules would have been arranged we probably were not even in the second November 5 set of restrictions. So it could have been assumed some form of celebrations outside the home would have been happening.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 31/12/2020 19:24

I'm very happy with it, to be honest - too many clashes of things we like after all of this time of nothing on at all. Maybe we just aren't very discerning Grin

It obviously won't be as lively as it is most years, but we always tune in to BBC Scotland for the Hogmanay celebrations and the run up to the bells. If you like Susan Calman and/or great folk/traditional music, you might just want to take a look - it's on 194 on Sky (if you're in England, at least) and will most probably be on other platforms too.

Plus there's an episode of Still Game on BBC1 later: I think it's the one where they're stuck in the lift - always great value!

TokyoSushi · 31/12/2020 19:24

We're currently watching The Ripper on Netflix - Happy New Year!

Okbye · 31/12/2020 19:26

It’s been bad throughout this whole period! (Me and my husband have had this moan every night for the last week!) Surely they must’ve known everyone would mostly be at home in front of the TV, more effort into what’s on would’ve been greatly appreciated!

WhoLettheCatOut · 31/12/2020 19:41

It's been like this all Christmas. We've now resorted to Prime and Disney+ but I'd rather watch actual TV.

mum2jakie · 31/12/2020 19:44

It's shit. Bored shitless

confusednortherner · 31/12/2020 19:46

Terrible but our local circus are showing their Christmas show on YouTube so we are watching that.

billybagpuss · 31/12/2020 19:47

Totally agree, I love a bit of sewing bee, but it’s not nye viewing it’s a midweek with bangers and mash kinda viewing.

InFiveMins · 31/12/2020 19:48

@mum2jakie yep, bored here too. My life is quite literally revolving around TV shows at the minute - I'm even watching Emmerdale right now just to give me something to do - the offerings tonight are absolutely rubbish! Agree with another poster would prefer quiz shows or game shows, just anything lighthearted. Really surprised networks haven't cashed in on the fact we're all at home and watching TV.

PickAChew · 31/12/2020 19:48

Sewing bee followed by last leg. Perfect for us.

Madmoxxi · 31/12/2020 19:48

But Strong man!

NiceGerbil · 31/12/2020 19:48

Paddington is good! Then we're having sewing bee.

But yes in general it's all shite.

Doublechins · 31/12/2020 19:53

We're watching the Royal variety performance

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 31/12/2020 19:54

The TV industry has been decimated by Corona. The vast majority of companies are staffed by (excluded) freelancers, advertising has hit the floor, budgets have been slashed (and programme making is even more costly as you need to have 2 times the contributors / crew in self isolation before filming in case someone gets sick), it takes time to make programmes and the country was in a formal lockdown when tv for Christmas would have been made. Telly people would love to be making better telly.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 31/12/2020 20:07

BBC1 8pm on New Year's eve when we're all stuck in..The Great British Sewing Bee. Featuring a drag queen. 🙄🙄

Holothane · 31/12/2020 20:08

Going to watch the Jeremy Bamber case dvd that will keep us happy,

AgeLikeWine · 31/12/2020 20:09

We have been watching Paddington on C4. It’s just wonderful, and perfect to raise a smile at such a shit time.

NiceGerbil · 31/12/2020 20:13

Both the Paddington films are proper brilliant.

My workmates seem to all like the American stuff (home alone etc) I just ask not interested. Actually tell a lie minions etc is good.

Just proper good films that cross generations are like gold dust and I find it it odd that my blokey colleagues are in paroxysms looking forward to well. Let's just say not to my taste Grin

HappyThursdays · 31/12/2020 20:16

I was thinking that

Skyfall it is for us too!
