To think tv is a letdown tonight

Given we're all stuck in surely they could have made a bit more effort to put something decent on tv.

We are fortunate enough to have Sky, Netflix and Prime... all rubbish. Some don't have the choice.

Surely they can do better

I’ve just watched the Edinburgh drones - worth a watch!

All this thread really shows is how varied people’s tastes are - what is heaven to one is hell to the other. No way of pleasing everyone.

I think that's it. There's basically a certain formula of NYE programming and people either like it and watch it or don't like it and watch/do something else. To be fair, it's only one night in the year - and the date is rather fixed and dictated by the formats!

I have no interest whatsoever in football so, when they show it endlessly on Saturdays through the season, I just accept that it's not for me and find something else to watch or do. There's nothing they could do to change the format of the football shows (without making them not-football shows!) that would interest me, so it would be waste of both our time them trying - and then all the football fans would hate me and want to know when it was their turn Grin

Why do we want this reminder of how crap the year was?!

GinAndTonicOnIt · 01/01/2021 00:07

I'd rather the firework money went into the NHS. Yes I'm a boring miserable bastard.

GinAndTonicOnIt · 01/01/2021 00:09

BUT the drones are blooming awesome

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 01/01/2021 00:12

I enjoyed the Last Leg. Not sure why they put it on to finish at 11pm though. I'd be more than happy to see in the New Year with Adam Hills.
(Shame he's happily married)

PickAChew · 01/01/2021 00:13

Oh, I don't know. Tom Jones is pretty fantastic, here. He's 80 but his voice is amazing.

GinAndTonicOnIt · 01/01/2021 00:14

I think Alicia keys has a great voice but wtf? Why is the first song of London BBC 2021 a song from 2009 about New York?

PickAChew · 01/01/2021 00:14

And did love the last leg. Annoyed it overlapped with mock the week but didn't see the night through.

AngeloMysterioso · 01/01/2021 00:18

Enjoyed the firework and drone show. Doubt the residents of Wembley were too thrilled though!

RaininSummer · 01/01/2021 00:31

Didnt even bother putting the tv on this evening as nothing worth watching. Absolute radio and games all night here.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 01/01/2021 00:40

Now Michael Kiwanuka is singing Lean On Me. Gorgeous.

(I saw him live at Green Man when we could still go to Festivals)

This is slightly cheering and a good sentiment for now

ToadsThePeanutButterSnob · 01/01/2021 00:44

Doctor Who tomorrow though Smile.

GrandTheftWalrus · 01/01/2021 00:49

Graham Norton and the Alicia keys thing wasn't on in Scotland. We had only an excuse instead.

He has such a beautiful voice.

Take it all back - Janet somebody on Jools Holland just did an amazing performance of peace in the valley ❤️

Holothane · 01/01/2021 01:17

Yes I’ll be watching Doctor Who tomorrow then more upstairs and downstairs then think I’ll have a Star Wars night I’ve not done that for ages, wish I could buy the latest series on blu ray, I’ve got all the film’s.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 01/01/2021 14:13

Poo, I missed it - I assumed they weren't doing one this year, but as an outsider (in England), I'm still trying to get used to the Scottish schedules now and what is shown on what channel, now that BBC Scotland is slightly like the largely similar erstwhile Scottish version of BBC2 that it replaced, but mainly its own distinctive channel.

Just seen that OAE is on again tonight, though. I'm one of those saddoes who likes to record things and keep them forever, so I like catchup for many things, but not always its ephemeral nature Grin
