To think tv is a letdown tonight

Given we're all stuck in surely they could have made a bit more effort to put something decent on tv.

We are fortunate enough to have Sky, Netflix and Prime... all rubbish. Some don't have the choice.

Surely they can do better

In my day didn't have television. We had to make our own entertainment. I remember one year we had a war with Mr Hitler. Other times we played Monopoly or Escalado.

You had board games? When I was a lass, all we had was dust and I'll tell you something young lady, we were jolly well grateful for it too. Mind you, it was good old fashioned British dust. Not like this cheap forrin dust you get nowadays.

But in fairness they would struggle to do an uplifting review of the year

I agree, it’s been pretty dreadful tv this festive period. I don’t want new stuff necessarily, but they could have found a lot more appropriate or fun repeats!

I've only got Freeview programs on TV. Since Sky Arts Channel 11 has come on Freeview I've watched that more than any other channel. Been some good stuff on there

All this thread really shows is how varied people’s tastes are - what is heaven to one is hell to the other. No way of pleasing everyone.

I thought that too - although was cheering when she finally confronted Cathy on her behaviour (which is becoming so absurd it’s just ridiculous and not so funny!)

Tv has been absolute shit this Christmas.

Its been utterly wank all xmas. Its like ive been waiting for it to get started since the 24th and now its the end of it.

No excuse why they couldnt show some decent repeats or films rather than vague lifestyle bollocks non-stop.

There was Uncle Vanya on BBC last night which was good and thats it

It’s even more crap than the usual New Year’s Eve fare. They really could have done so much better. Very poor.

Eastenders tonight really cheered me up

I really dont think its that hard actually, just choose some of the favourites from the last few years if they have to for one year-every evening a decent documentary (probably wildlife or war history) early on, a comedy then a decent drama repeat (agatha christie or the usual thriller bollocks), then a late film after Jools Holland being thrown into the thames with whichever obscure never heard of jazz trio hes currently informing us are 'legends'.

I might try and find the TV schedule for new years in the 90s actually. Convinved it was loads better.

YY to Two Doors Down: I thought it was going to go right off the rails by revealing that actually Colin had invited the neighbours there to stage an intervention on Kathy and get her packed off to rehab. But no, Eric talked Beth down from the position AN ENTIRE VIEWING NATION was supporting her on. Ie, Shut up, Kathy.

We don't normally watch it as tbh...last year I think it was we played Bandersnatch up until like 23.40, enjoyed the last bit of what was on before then the countdown.

This year...actually I'm typing this in bed. We gave up about 45 mins ago. The big new year in was bearable but then the news was just plain sad. Especially as I have avoided watching up to now. And when they said something about a light show instead of fireworks...yeah we've just given up. Not to mention that we both have something not-covid cold.

Although creepily the TV just decided to continue watching without us as I'd scheduled it to change it to bbc in case we found something better..

We saved Death to 2020 (Netflix) for tonight and it was a good way to round out the year!

I enjoyed Graham Norton but this Alicia keys thing is bland (BBC ONE). Off to bed!

Oh you mean you didn't enjoy watching Paddy McGuiness twatter on about being Northern, with his 3 Northern guests, filmed in the North? Diane Buswell appearing on a naff Strictly 'special' obviously filmed during the series as moments earlier, she'd apparently sent a selfie in saying her and Joe Suggs were watching! Obviously pulled together last minute!

Normal TV has been largely shit for years. I can’t remember anything other than line of duty that I’ve bothered watching on ‘normal’ tv since about 2017.
