What do you have in your dining room?

We are moving house soon and will have a proper dining room for the first time (our current house has a living room/dining room rather than a whole separate room). Apart from table and chairs what else do you have in it? I feel like our table will look a bit silly if its the only thing in the room.

We have a table and 6 chairs. A sofa, a TV on the wall and 3 shelves that are ancient and built in with a lamp and books on.

Sally872 · 27/12/2020 20:43

Dining table and chairs is all we have. It isn't huge. Have some nice wallpaper, a big mirror on one wall a nice light and some pictures so although no other furniture it isn't too bare. If I had more space then a nice sideboard is what I would like.

Scarlettpixie · 27/12/2020 20:44

2 tall display cabinets, a sideboard and a lamp.

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 27/12/2020 20:45

The cat's bed, litter box and feeding stuff.
A Welsh dresser and kitchen island on wheels and a fridge freezer.

It's basically a kitchen overflow as the actual kitchen is tiny.

Table with 6 chairs, welsh dresser, cat litter box, cat beds, cat toys, cats.

spanieleyes · 27/12/2020 20:48

Table and chairs, China cabinet and bookcase

Ticklemynickel · 27/12/2020 20:48

Table & 6 chairs, small bookcase, sideboard with lamp and turntable & speakers, arm chair. We also have highchair and small children's table & chairs for DD.

inappropriateraspberry · 27/12/2020 20:48

I'd just put your table and chairs in for now, and live with it for a bit. You'll naturally realise what your missing/needing eg, whether a sideboard or shelving, tv etc is preferred.
Will you use the dining room every day, or is there room to eat in the kitchen or lounge?

FlamingGoat · 27/12/2020 20:50

Table, chairs, sideboard , Welsh dresser, washing, picnic hamper, more washing.

Mousehole10 · 27/12/2020 20:52

I really like the idea of a sideboard, and nice lamp. There won't really be anywhere else to eat apart from in the living room on sofas, the kitchen is too small for another table. We have a baby so am hoping we will eat as a family at the table most days.

It's not big.

Piano, Welsh dresser, sideboard with record player

inappropriateraspberry · 27/12/2020 20:54

I'm sure a sideboard or similar will be handy - particularly for baby paraphernalia, serving dishes etc. I've always fancied a nice drinks cabinet!

Kintsugi16 · 27/12/2020 20:55

You will never use it

I would repurpose it

rosegoldwatcher · 27/12/2020 20:56

Circular, extendable table with 4 chairs (another 4 in the conservatory), a sideboard with glass cabinet above and a low media cabinet for the PC and trimmings!

LongPauseNoAnswer · 27/12/2020 20:58

Table and 8 chairs. A double wide china display cabinet that is home to my dinner service and tea/coffee set and a linen dresser that houses various glasses (wine, whiskey, grappa), tablecloths and linen napkins, our “for best” cutlery and candelabras.

Landlubber2019 · 27/12/2020 20:58

@Kintsugi16 we use our dining room every day, it has a table, computer and dressed containing games in it.

Feelingpoorlysick · 27/12/2020 20:58

Our dining room is also our 'day room' as it's off the kitchen. We have our dining table, a small dresser in the alcove, a comfy armchair, two seat sofa and small sideboard. It's where we spend most of our time, our ds plays in there when at home. We're lucky that's its a fairly good size.

AlwaysLatte · 27/12/2020 21:05

Dining table with 6 chairs, antique drinks cabinet and a big old mahogany linen chest that we use for china and table linen. Also my son's digital piano at the moment. We have an alcove with shelving for larger pots and vases, water jugs etc and a cupboard for lesser-used kitchen items like less used cake pans, waffle maker etc. Always looking for more storage though!

HardAsSnails · 27/12/2020 21:12

Dining table and chairs
Bookshelves lining 2 walls
Sideboard
2 armchairs
Laptop table thing for WFH

Fourmagpies · 27/12/2020 21:12

Table with 6 chairs, 2 extra chairs to side, bureau desk, fireplace, piano and large display cabinet which is an antique medicine cabinet and i love it. We use our dining table daily, it's next to kitchen and no room in kitchen for dining.

Kintsugi16 · 27/12/2020 21:15

Landlubber2019
But how often do you eat in there?

Mousehole10 · 27/12/2020 21:15

Wow some of you must have huge dining rooms! I don't think ours will fit sofas and pianos as well as a table but we should have room for some nice cabinets. Some great ideas in here!
